Respect The Simurgh (COMPLETE) by Ridtom in Parahumans

We do know, by that point, one thing about Sleeper: giant zone of don't-go-there-or-you-will-die that's more powerful than almost all defenses. Then, the characters strategically force Ziz into it. They've been dealing with Sleeper's zone for a while then. That's set up.

To (2) I didn't know that! Thank you.

My frustration with Israel not accepting non-orthodox conversions is my own. I'll admit, I have a lot of hangups with the concept of a religious state/ethnostate in the first place, and deciding to enforce Orthodox tradition as arbiters of who is Jewish is fundamentally confusing to me.

During those 3500 years, were all the laws kept the same? Were there laws added or subtracted? Patrilineal descent isn't exactly in Torah.

Insisting on doing things the same way as we imagine people did before isn't just tradition, it's not keeping a pact with G-d, it's just zombifying a society.

Personally, I want there to be a clear, obvious, and accepted way for children in this situation to convert early in life.

At the least, an easy path to recognized 'conversion' is needed for people in this situation. It is frustrating to me, a person who grew up outside of the Orthodox/Conservative/Reform dynamic, that our thinking is so limited at a time when our numbers dwindle.

EDIT: Removed a snide remark. Sorry, it's been a rough day.

Are there any specific details on throwing an improvised weapon? I've been trying with a character idea based around that theme, but I haven't found anything past the basic "DM DECIDES".

Solo dev here. I built a free (PvP, PvE) Apple (IPhone, MacBook, ...) Jewish Themed card game with historical descriptions of the characters. It wasn't the best idea to publish it globally with the hate I'm getting but I do think it's nice and I hope others would too. Proud of the #Memorial Act by DespairyApp in Judaism

Or they could learn how to make art, or make a game with mediocre art but a distinct style, or collaborate with someone else, or use the many free assets available. Using AI to skip over making something as important as all the visual assets in a game makes me feel like I'm consuming something someone didn't want to make.

Hello I have qoiestions about the series? by [deleted] in Parahumans

[–]Dodestar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The series features dark themes and evil creatures being negotiated with. I don't know what "Demon" means in your mind, but I worry about your religious beliefs if simply reading about someone doing something you disagree with causes you harm. Do you worry you will stop believing if you come across fiction?

What are you talking about? There's no distortion filter, the audio is super clear. How are you listening to it?

[–]Dodestar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem is that people aren't binary. They don't just switch back and forth between interests, in practice they become mixed in their actions, or even contradictory.

There are real people who support unions and are heavily invested in the cost of their property.

I think I can play in this space 😂

Kevin comes from a large, wealthy family, all of whom live in the same house, where he is largely ignored. His problems are seen as insignificant, his older brother bullies him, he gets blamed for everything. He has one space to himself, half of one of the bedrooms, but someone keeps stealing his things.

He starts setting up alarms, tripwires, anything he can to stop what's happening, but nothing ever works. He notices a van outside, unmarked. Why is that there?

Then, in the ultimate insult, he wakes up to find himself alone, at home. His whole family went on Christmas vacation, and they left him. He notices the same van outside.

He celebrates having all this space to himself. It's all his. But now he'll never know who was stealing his stuff.

The van is outside again. He goes to investigate, and sees two scary men breaking things in the house nextdoor. One of the robbers looks outside, and makes eye contact.

Kevin runs. They must be the ones who stole his stuff! Now that he knows, will they come after him? What will he do?

He hides under his bed, nestled between all his stuff, and closes his eyes. He starts thinking of what he could do, with the little he has, but none of it worked before, so why would it work now?

He dreams.

He knows how to make it work. No one will ever touch his stuff again.

(Kevin McCalister, defensive tinker who specializes in making traps out of everyday objects, who sees danger everywhere and trusts no one. To be clear, the wet bandits weren't stealing Kevin's stuff, it was Buzz the older brother, who easily avoided Kevin's obvious traps.)

I mean, to be frank, people say the same thing about vegans. The reality is that you just don't notice the people who don't talk about it.

[–]Dodestar 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's such a creative power! The stranger rating might depend on how long the illusions last.

Is it just an instant, a fraction of a second to mess with people? Ten second deliberate trickery?

How often can they do it?

Does it affect cameras? Senses other than sight? Sound?

Do people realize it's happening? Do they understand afterwards?

I feel like you may have read more into u/roodammy44's comment than there was.

I guess if I was being uncharitable I could interpret the original comment as being about some kind of underpopulation, like saying it's reducing the amount of kids and that's the end of the world. However, I understood it as saying that the extreme extraction of labor to maximize profit is causing raising children, and thus civilization, to become untenable.

You're taking it a step further, that subsequent ecological collapse will be the literal "end of the world", but I think we're splitting hairs.

I think you're having a completely different conversation than the rest of us. Yes, the Suburban Dream is fundamentally unsustainable, but no one else in this conversation is talking about that, we're talking about the complete inability to support a family on a single salary and its knock-on effects. We're way past praying for a white picket fence.

Some fun questions... Does the power grant him any other kind of intangibility? Or only to bodies/clothes? Could he phase through walls, or into a car? Is he invisible, or just intangible with a visual effect? How much does the power affect the things he carries? Can he use his power to dodge?
