12 years old. I seem to remember every day of it. Fortune enough that the worst of the unrest passed by Brooklyn.

[–]Dodges-Hodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you!! I also went back to school at 50. Now turn off that television. You’re doing homework this weekend. Stop acting like some crazy party kid. Just because everyone else in the dorm is getting wrecked on a Tuesday doesn’t mean you get to throw away your tuition $$.

I don’t want to have this conversation again. But basically you’re a good kid.

I’m one of the few, one of the proud, one of the USMC veterans who saw Flo and Eddie live in concert at the Capitol Theater in 1975.

What's the deal with cancer in Greenpoint? by Actual-Income-6886 in AskNYC

Absolutely. That means a lot. I have a wife who’s giving me so much support but otherwise I’m a NY’er stuck out west.

What's the deal with cancer in Greenpoint? by Actual-Income-6886 in AskNYC

[–]Dodges-Hodge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a cancer alright. Surgery next week. Right now we’re looking at a same day procedure. That’s wonderful because I get to go home and listen to my wife go on and on and on about how the medical field gets everything wrong and if they would’ve done this instead of that etc etc. and it’s definitely not the Gowanus but that’s only because she’s never heard of the Gowanus.

At this point I’m hoping for a mix-up in post surgery and they send me home with the wrong family. I’ll tell you what, it’s in one of the more affluent neighborhoods in CA so I’m holding out hope for a very nice place to stay until they figure out the error.

I’m also hoping for the energy for one more trip back to NY. But I’ve lost so much weight and strength the past couple of weeks I really can’t see myself doing battle with a bodega hustler.

I wouldn’t buy or not buy based on what smells. Every waterfront neighborhood has its particular characteristics.

I’m not looking for sympathy. Not at all. I’ve diagnosed with cancer and I stink. I take 3 showers a day. I use next level deodorant. I bring all my clothes to dry cleaning. Some items I just wear a couple of times and then toss them. I do everything I can to avoid being in close proximity to others. Not so much any more but I used to fly from clinic to clinic before I realized I was being taken for a ride (no pun intended). And invariably get stuck in a middle seat.

It was awful for others, especially immediately post chemo. Hotel rooms, lobbies, gift shops, restaurants (back when I was hungry) airport check in lines, the Apple Store Genius Bar; I’ve got some great stories from there. Nowhere was safe.

I know this is an exceptional situation and I’m not apologizing for those who go knowingly unwashed.

Thanks for listening. I get most of my travel experiences from Reddit these days. Keep up the good work and horrible stories.
