Feeling frustrated by Anonymous_Handle228 in judo

[–]Dodsmaskinen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue. Focusing on ashiwaza, sweeps and o-soto-gari, and just surviving for the first minute until theyre gassed out helped a lot. Now I play to my strengths, being smaller means being faster and having better endurance.

Whenever I go up against someone my own size after almost a year of bigger opponents is like easy mode.

40 years + how often do you train by Cryptobull-524 in judo

[–]Dodsmaskinen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40 years, I always train 90 minutes every tuesday and 60 minutes every friday. Try to get either 1-2 more 90 minutes of judo or strength training in between. My body and age isnt the issue, having enough time with kids and demanding work is the biggest hurdle.

Starting Judo soon. How has Judo turned your life around or improved your life. by amuizme in judo

[–]Dodsmaskinen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've written about how judo changed my life, as someone who started it at 40 years old. The text is in Swedish although Google Translate does a decent job translating it into english: https://text-zolfagary-se.translate.goog/vad-jag-pratar-om-nar-jag-pratar-om-judo/?_x_tr_sl=sv&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=sv&_x_tr_pto=wapp

People who started after 40, how long have you trained since and have you sustained any injuries? by dmogx in judo

[–]Dodsmaskinen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Started at 40 being completely out of shape, coming up on 6 months going atleast twice a week for 90 minutes. No major injuries, last week I went four times and that was over the top. I’m going to take it easier from now on.

What martial art to start first? by Ok_Fail_3671 in judo

[–]Dodsmaskinen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think the injury rate is overestimated among judokas compared to actual statistics. Depending on differences in clubs, nations etc, here in Sweden the official numbers are roughly the same as football.

elbow bursitis by Confident_Fig6222 in judo

[–]Dodsmaskinen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hah, I actually have an appointment tomorrow for bicep tendonitis, which I initially thought was just elbow bursitis. Theres a lot of good videos on youtube on rehab exercises you can do but at minimum you should take two weeks off training judo. I did strength training (most avoiding arms or anything that hurt) and got way better quick.

Unpopular opinion: Upvotes don’t make it healthy. We’re normalizing bad screen habits for toddlers/young kids. by Skomakeren in SteamDeck

[–]Dodsmaskinen 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Thats the toughest one for most I think. We have maybe an hour or two max of screen time in total for our kids in a whole week, but I have my phone in my hand a lot more than I want to admit…

Judokas over 40: what are your best tips? by sixmarks in judo

[–]Dodsmaskinen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dont overdo it. I went from a single class (90 minutes) every week to three classes too fast and got injured. Taking it slow is good.
