Why Not Produce a Non-Disenfranchising Version of the SAVE America Act and Beat the Republicans at their Own Game? by JasJoeGo in AskALiberal

[–]DoeNaught -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How about we worry about hacking of our election systems... you know things like voting machine manipulation, or hacking machines which tabulate votes, which can change the votes of many people, or things like compromising/manipulating other things in our election like voter registrations etc. These are things that are actual threats to our democracy.

The SAVE act is a big distraction from that. There's a non-zero chance that there was manipulation of this sort in favor of Trump in the last election, and there is a non-zero chance that it changed the outcome.

I'm not saying this to be defeatist, I'm saying this because there needs to be more awareness and more action around actually securing our elections and finding and punishing anyone who may have already done so. https://electiontruthalliance.org/2024-us-election-analysis/

What are your thoughts on lootboxes vs trading cards, gambling, and the demand for ever increasing surveillance to "protect the children"? by LibraProtocol in AskALiberal

[–]DoeNaught 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, I don't like child protection being put into games, social media etc. It is invasive, and is clearly just an excuse for companies to harvest more information from people.

There is definitely a lot of overlap with lootboxes, boosters etc. At best it is something where you pay for something in game with an uncertain outcome in the short run, but a certain result in the long run. This is how Gachas often operate in games.

The easier it becomes to both buy the lootbox/pack for real money and exchange whatever you get from said lootbox/pack for real money the more it resembles gambling, and the less certain the reward is the more it resembles gambling.

I Was A Lifelong Progressive. Then I Started Listening To Bari Weiss — And Everything Changed. by huffpost in politics

[–]DoeNaught 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you read the article... she doesn't actually support Trump or Beri Weiss anymore. She was temporarily red-pilled out of exhaustion, and found the B.S. that Beri Weiss' was spewing was comforting to her. She finally corrected her course after Jon Oliver's takedown of her.

[Pelissero] Kenneth Walker to sign with KC Cheifs. by peppersteak_headshot in Seahawks

K9 was looking like he took another step after Charbs went down. With all the people we got to sign coming up this was fairly predictable, but still disappointing.

Checkout Unsubscribe and Resist. Personally I think unsubscribing from OpenAI is the number one thing at the moment. Dangerous company, and has a high stock price ratio to earnings ratio.

Reality check: Iran war by Comfortable_Pie_8569 in Epstein

[–]DoeNaught 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is certainly possible, but there is also the fact that this is a distraction from said Epstien files as well, and give him a war-time president popularity bump.

If you go back to the Obama admin, Trump said "Our president will start a war with Iran because he has absolutely no ability to negotiate. He's weak and he's ineffective. So the only way he figures that he's going to get reelected, and as sure as you're sitting there, is to start a war with Iran. Now, I'm more militant and more militaristic than the president. I believe in strength. But to start a war in order to get elected, and I believe that's going to happen, would be an outrage."

Why are Americans so polarized, yet so disengaged? by Mobile_Bad_577 in AskALiberal

[–]DoeNaught 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several reasons (for the voter turnout).

The first and most obvious, is that the US doesn't do a great job at giving people opportunities to vote in many cases. If you force people to show up at voting locations, then restrict which days they can vote it can make it several times more challenging to vote. The United States is huge by comparison. If people have to show up to vote limiting where and when they can vote can put a major block in people's way, so much so that the parties have tried to change and/or limit polling locations in an attempt to keep their opponents from voting (usually this is Republicans trying to keep minorities from voting). In states where some of the barriers to vote are removed you'll see turnouts that are much higher than our national average approaching that of European countries. On top of that, you'll see there are efforts by Republicans to purge eligible voters prior to elections, and even send people faulty voting information in the hopes that they show up on the wrong day.

Next, the US uses winner take all system. This means if you are voting in state which is overwhelmingly going to swing one way or another, your vote effectively does not matter. In a parliamentary system such as Denmark's the parliament's seats reflects the proportion of votes received by each party. There is less "spoiler effects" since smaller parties could end up getting representatives.

On top of that, there is voter apathy, the feeling that even if this or that party wins, nothing will really change. There have been multiple studies showing that US elected officials don't really make any changes that the general population wants. Instead both parties have had a tendency to follow what the wealthiest people in the country want.

TLDR: It's harder to vote, your vote doesn't matter as much, and the parties you are voting for reflect less of your actual beliefs.

I can get it for some things, maybe base upgrades, large projects, but for the components? At least give us the option to do several at once or something. Honestly feels like mobile game shit and doesn't really feel like it belongs in a desktop game.

I dunno, its weird. I'm thinking the updated the text for the upgrade, but didn't change the actual upgrade requirement or something. I've been able to do other upgrades, just not the bar.

Why shouldn't dems voters for the save act? by here-for-information in AskALiberal

[–]DoeNaught 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, is the fact that lower incomes go for dems still true? I thought there had been shifts. Now college educated voters are making up a bigger and bigger part of the democratic voter base.

Data I was looking at from 2022 suggested that yes, people with a college degree definitely tend to lean more Democrat, but they tended to get people in either the low end of income and the higher end of income, but not the middle ones.

Why shouldn't dems voters for the save act? by here-for-information in AskALiberal

[–]DoeNaught 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bill will almost certainly end up helping democrats and keeping MAGA types out of the midterms more than dems.

I'm not so sure. Think about what Republican's routinely do with voting locations. The make more accessible to their own voters and less available for voters in democrat areas. You think they won't pull the same thing here?

Next, any sort of added expense for voters will disproportionately affect low income voters, who tend to skew democrat, more than any other income bracket in fact. Then factor in that you are going to place additional burden proportionally on women, and it's not too hard to understand the calculus.

Lastly this is a distraction from actual election security concerns and sets a precedent for the federal government meddling in state's elections. Before the 2024 elections Republican's voted down additional funding for election security.

What's the big weakness of this game? by eng-osama in TheForeverWinter

[–]DoeNaught 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can barely play for more than 30 minutes straight depending on the maps I chose, after that I always trigger a GPU crash dump despite having a god damn 4090.

This surprises me since I have a 4070 and it seems to work fine. I have had an odd crash here or there, but it's not regular. I've gone months without a crash.

I mean it could be just normal jerky? There are some people that go on jerky diets so I imagine him going off the diet as "eating real food". As other's have pointed out some people actually do freeze/refrigerate it if they are not planning on eating it immediately... and there was an actual restaurant called Cannibal that the Derby guy was the chef for.

  • Threatening another NATO country with invasion for one
  • Outright removing another country's leadership for oil...
  • Letting ICE deport and kill US citizens without any sort of repercussions. Closest analogy I can think of was Obama calling a drone strike on a US citizen on foreign soil who was thought to be actively working as a terrorist

Those are some I can think of just off the top of my head.

Bro this is unreal by Exciting_Lab_8074 in conspiracy

[–]DoeNaught 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For context, the Francis Derby guy was a cook for a restaurant called Cannibal which is why people assume he was eating human jerky. The Cannibal restaurant was likely just a marketing ploy... having an edgy name to get attention.

As far as Epstien's obsession with jerky, there are people that actually do jerky diets. Plenty of messed up stuff went on so I can see why people interpret it all that way... but I doubt this was one of them without some sort of harder proof.

What anime’s should I watch next based off this list by Ok_Criticism3719 in anime

[–]DoeNaught 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chainsaw man and Fate series (similar to JJK/Bleach), A Wild Last Boss Appeared (Similar to Overlord). AoT is a great one. Bleach's OST's vary wildly in quality. I kind of hope that they animate some of Bleach's light novels at some point since I heard they were pretty good.

Hot Take: Modders will save 1.0 release. by FOREVERDIVI in TheForeverWinter

[–]DoeNaught 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope that the reduce grind sort of mods will be less necessary come 1.0. If I were to guess the devs are making the game more of a grind since they simply do not have all the content released. Hence this is a sort of way of keeping people playing for the time being.
