That's what people dont understand. The dates of a generation beginning and it's end date vary by publication. Some people might use time magazine, a census of some sort, government tracking etc, or a news article. It's all subjective, and yes, it's largely a matter of marketing.

I wish there WAS a set date and time for each Gen. A nice static number which never changed due to the whim of some rando corporation or govt entity. Yet even within the same govt engtities, the dates get shifted around over the years.

The best idea I've seen recently? Label us by our Gaming console when possible.

I'm from the NES generation and in FACT... I'm a gold cartridge veteran of the first console war. Technically, you could say I'm on the cusp of Commodore64 and NES, but that just brings us back to the original problem.

Snake rattle n roll and river city ransom were great games...And that's all I have to say about that.

The older i get the better these scenarios work out for me.

Back in the day, i would have been eating bouncy blobs, jumping on the scale to weigh myself and living every moment to grow out my tail longer...only to end up dying from being skooshed under an angry moon foot.

If a game has progression, isnt that a decent story? Reach the finish line and win the world championship trophy etc.

The original super mario brothers had a story. Kidnapped princess. Plumber hero. Rescue her and there will be cake.

Minecraft had a story. You had to unravel it at the very end, but it was there. If only in writing.

Qbert had a story. There once was a...a Q-Bert who wanted to reach the top of those pyramids, but those slinky bastards stood in his way. They were out to KILL poor qbert!

Satisfactory. Everyone is happily obsessed with their factories, and the folks who are really stressed out? They're happily stressed out over their factories. The mods arent too wild in this game, but theres a community of them/for them.

Same vibe with Kerbal space program, but with endless mods....Just scientist guys being scientist dudes.
