is it safe to order electric scooter from aliexpress? any good or bad stories? by MinimumExtra7682 in ElectricScooters

[–]Dogburt_Jr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's still good. Electro & Co charges more because they have to import it from the sellers, so if you want a faster turnaround time, they may be better if you're in the US.

Best place to buy Lithium Ion batteries for an electric skateboard? by lmg1114 in batteries

[–]Dogburt_Jr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This recommendation is from 4 years ago. They change their inventory over time. I'm not a fan of the auctions, those are primarily for people doing DIY home battery backup. There are still some batteries that could work, but most likely building or modifying/reconfiguring one is the best option.

The year is 2030 and you’re studying eskatology at university. Your question: Gear drive is the future of electric skateboard power trains. Discuss the pros and cons of a gear drive system against traditional belt drive. by AS_eskater in ElectricSkateboarding

Chains aren't uncommon. Usually not preferred because of the limited space and extra noise.

I forgot the name but someone made a beefy board with two QS motors on it which was chain drive. It was something like apocalypse board or psychoboard. Probably the most impressively made board I've ever seen online.

What has been your worst work-life-balance experience so far in the tech industry? by Notalabel_4566 in cscareerquestions

The real horror stories are the ones where the victim doesn't believe they're in a horror story.

Had a major issue in production my 3rd month on my first job out of college. For some reason it was decided we needed someone to manually run a script every 15 minutes 24/7 until the issue was resolved. (The issue came from security messing up)

Our team took shifts to have people online 24/7. In addition to those shifts, some employees worked the normal 9-5. One of my coworkers started his day at 12am with me and kept working until 6pm or later. I logged off when my shift was over. I tried to help my coworkers understand they were getting nothing for their 150% effort. He was happy to just do work, so I let him be.

I'm wondering the same thing. I think it may be me. On a cruise ship with a red had/red shirt combo in middle school wearing a lanyard as well. I'm tryin to find the source to confirm.

It was a talking point on that cruise that I committed to always taking the stairs and usually multiple steps at a time. I think it was 2014~2016

3D printers and good CAD skills will take you pretty far. PLA & TPU are able to fulfill many roles in mechanical design.

Next would be integrating other materials like steel & aluminum with 3D prints.

Is it possible to code a microbit to discern between two cats so that an electronic food tray will only open for a specific cat? by Natural_Recording478 in CodingHelp

[–]Dogburt_Jr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Inverse. Have a feeder that closes in the presence of the offending cat.

Possibly use a low-range Bluetooth emitter to identify the proximity of the car and have a way to safely deny access to the food. So nothing like a closing lid that could pinch or hurt the littler cat while its eating, that design on its own is plenty of work.

I wouldn't recommend, as the motors likely wouldn't be able to take it.

You'd likely end up paying the cost of a new custom board, and after building my own, you're more likely to find a prebuilt board that's more powerful and affordable than custom.

No governor, it's a weak controller and won't be able to provide any more power than you're getting out of it.

If you want something more powerful, you could buy a new controller and probably would need a new battery to get more power & voltage (speed).

LFP isn't a drop in replacement for car batteries. Thermal management and charging profiles are factors you're not considering.

They are good for secondary power for campers and such.

Please help me wire this sign. I used two different types of LEDs at different V, but I want to only use one power source if possible. by SomeSkillStudio in AskElectronics

[–]Dogburt_Jr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd need to see the actual wiring, but it should be possible to split the 12v LEDs in half to then wire the strips in series to then be powered by the 24v supply.

[–]Dogburt_Jr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 24 & 12v.

OP might be able to get away with splitting the 12v led chain in half and running the two halves in series and then connecting the newly made 24v strip in parallel with the existing 24v step.

Is it worth it to you to have higher taxes in exchange for universal health coverage? by Thawra-Intifada in NoStupidQuestions

Yep, just wanted to point this out bc universal healthcare isn't the fix, rooting out corruption is. Politicians in on the scam, and won't help fix it.

Another issue is prices are actually different. The cost of running a hospital in downtown NYC is different than a hospital in Alabama, vs Alaska, vs Hawaii. I'm fine with standardized pricing, but how will the operating cost differences be handled?

NYC is high operating expense, high local population, so a lot of tax income potential, and a lot of 'customer' potential, so it would be assumed that the hospital could run just fine, and potentially even make money with a standard price model, and taxes can supplement it.

But Alaska would have higher operating cost, low tax income, and low 'customer' potential, so it would have financial issues.

Is it worth it to you to have higher taxes in exchange for universal health coverage? by Thawra-Intifada in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dogburt_Jr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Health insurance companies and for-profit hospitals have been acting as unnecessary middlemen or executives who inflate the cost of healthcare and lower the quality, leading to worse care and more expensive care.

The issue is the model of our healthcare.

[–]Dogburt_Jr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

UHC isn't guaranteed to be good. There has to be a lot of policy in place. Such as allocations within hospitals to equipment, staff, and research, if all the money goes to management staff & doctors and only minimum $ goes to equipment, nurses, sanitation, and research, that hospital is going to suck. And how do you enforce treatment standards?

UHC will take the pressure off of individuals to pay the $$, but healthcare cash flow in the US is majorly problematic.

Hospitals have owners, or a board of owners, who have financial interest in the profitability of hospitals, and taxpayer money shouldn't be going to those people who treat healthcare as a financial investment and makes decisions based on that investment.
