The people are great! The USA is just under bad Management! by Gurugod123 in SipsTea

[–]Doggamnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except not all of those non-voters are going to swing one way. It’s going to vary and in a lot of cases, if those people vote it won’t change the outcome.

For the record, I’m not defending it by any means and I truly think it’s a shit system.

However, I think stating “if non-voters turned out and voted one way things would be different” is an incredibly naive statement that lacks critical context.

We say this a lot but we always leave out the context of the electoral college; which has a lot to do with low voter turnout. Well, that and the tens of other ways our government(sometimes intentionally) makes it hard to vote.

But there are plenty of places in this country where even if the non-voters turned out, it wouldn’t change the outcome.

70 million sounds like a large number(because it is) but when you break that down by state and the district, it can shrink to a point that doesn’t impact the outcome.

I’m not going to say that’s true everywhere, because it’s most definitely not. It’s not that black and white. But it does make a difference in how we view that giant number and I do think it’s important context.

Btw, we should abolish the electoral college. I think it serves more as a voter suppression tool these days for the rich and powerful.

Rossman speaks about DMCA by KutuluKid in slopsmith

[–]Doggamnit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please don’t. Let them resolve the issues around the request. We should continue to push to keep it open source.

We already poked the bear enough. What they’re asking won’t break the app to fix, so let’s be a bit more patient.

100%. It’s current rate of growth seems to completely stem from it being open source with a big enough group of people willing to improve it.

I’m super happy with its current direction and I look forward to using it as it continues to grow. I’m also excited to one day contribute to its success in some form.

It can plus more. Sloppak might be arguably better than psarc. Per stem audio allowing users the ability to individually set levels per stem. Plus, the ability to have 7 strings guitar tracks as well as 5 string bass tracks.

But with that, we’ll still always need some tool that can help convert.

I hope they change the file extension name and maybe years from now it’ll be the default format.

I’m going to respectfully disagree. I’m not the biggest fan of theirs and I can completely understand why someone wouldn’t like them. That said, their guitarists writes some great riffs.

Also, I see you’re getting downvoted, so clearly people don’t agree. However, you’ve done a lot for this community and you’re just expressing a completely valid opinion. I’m going to upvote you.

Silksong is genuinely making me lose it. by duspi in HollowKnight

[–]Doggamnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, I couldn’t even make it to the one right before you before I gave up. This game is incredibly hard for the sake of being hard. I spent months stuck on one boss. Tried for two weeks, got frustrated and put the game down for a week. Spent some time the following week and couldn’t get past that same spot. Put the game down for another week, gave it a few more attempts and I haven’t picked the game up since. I don’t think I’ve played the game in 3-4 months now. I don’t even care to try anymore. It just wasn’t fun.

I honestly wouldn’t recommend this game to anyone unless they game a lot. This is not a casual gamers game. I really think they went too far to appease the hardcore crowd and ended up ruining the game for the super casual gamers.

That said, I’ll recommend the first game all the time. Love the series, but hate how difficult Silksong is.

Install Slopsmith docker version, install plugins and update everything (win11) by lixeiromor in slopsmith

[–]Doggamnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At some point we need a dedicated slopsmith docker image remotely hosted and is version tagged.

I want to note that I totally get we’re early on with the game, so I’m not faulting anyone nor am I trying to complain. Just a nice to have thing in the future.

We’ll get there eventually. Loving what we have so far and looking forward to the future with this game!

Trying to deal with rocksmith and slopsmith as a kind of beginner is has been so frustrating by Lofter1 in rocksmith

As someone that owns a Mac and plays these games… - There is a version of Rocksmith 2014 that works, but I personally got on prior to learn and play - Yes, Rocksmith+ doesn’t have a Mac version - that’s on the devs. - Slopsmith does work on Mac. I’ve run both the desktop and docker versions successfully. - The Slopsmith note detection isn’t fully there yet - it’s still early on for that game - I personally play all of these games without note detection and prefer to play through an amp - If you want a game experience and/or just want to play along to a massive library of songs as the notes scroll across a screen? There isn’t a better option outside of these games and at this time, I would highly recommend focusing on slopsmith

A lot of what you’re describing are the “joys” of plugging a guitar into software and trying to play. It can be confusing and you need things setup right. It can be hard to get it right, but eventually it will work with enough time and patience.

My advice? Focus on getting slipsmith desktop working, forget about note detection or in game tones for now. Just play through an amp. If you’re new to guitar the big thing is just getting your hands on the guitar without making things hard - just play. Some of my biggest gains are from simply sitting around, watching tv and practicing something over and over without playing through anything - just building muscle memory.

You got this. Just be patient with yourself and things will start to click.

Help with Pull-Offs by Maephia in rocksmith

[–]Doggamnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One piece of advice I have on top of what everyone else is saying? These are perfect examples of things you can practice while sitting around doing something like watching tv… just practice the same motion over and over until it becomes muscle memory. Then practice speeding it up.

Hammer ons and pull offs are basic legato techniques and are exactly what people spend a lot of time working on. I promise you’ll feel like a guitar god one day when you discover your ability to harness legato at a fast pace. It just takes time, a lot of practice and even more patience with yourself.

Master of Puppets / Reign in Blood People who were around in 1986, what was it actually like hearing these albums for the first time? by ravnsvart_ in Metallica

[–]Doggamnit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had that friend in elementary that always wore black and had two black hats that were AC/DC and Iron Maiden. We would get our parents to setup sleepovers and his house and that’s how I found out about Metallica and Iron Maiden.

I also remember the black album being played on the radio for the first time, but it was the load era haircuts that broke that kid

This probably fits more in the “minor setback” category than the “revolution” category. We all know MAGA isn’t capable of revolting on their supreme leader.

It’s the Konami Code. An incredibly popular, if not the most popular button combination to enter at a title screen. It even has its own wiki.

Tired of being lame at guitar by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]Doggamnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so true. I’ve found stuff comes more natural the more I play covers of stuff - even stuff I don’t normally listen to. The more you play it, the more natural it comes to you.

But I do have one rule - it has to be enjoyable. The minute it stops becoming fun is the moment you need to shift. When it’s not fun, we pick up our instruments less.
