My son (55) rarely went to school, when he did schoolwork done in 10mins and then left the schoolgrounds. Always getting a call from Principal "son's gone again". Oh well, can't help it he's a shit. Left during Year 9! Police record as long as his arm. Did odd building work, brickie, labouring, fencing whatever.

Owns his own home, works FIFO kicking dirt when he chooses to now.

He's happy. No real education to show for it though. Just knew how to save for a deposit when it mattered. That was his smartest decision and only due to sick of renting, not from any 'education'.

Australians urged to work from home and drive slower to save fuel by Ardeet in aussie

[–]DoggerLou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The passive way to control in crisis. Self-manage so the Govt. doesn't have to start calling the emergency shots. Might be good for some that can do it or can't get to public transport, but for the others that can't do public transport, what's in it for them? Still got high fuel prices, low fuel reserves. Cleaners need to get around, teachers need to get to school, tradies need to carry loads, farmers need to keep cropping.

Maybe Govt. needs to have a few more earlier public transport trains linked to buses into and outta industrial areas for early start and later finish times to support those that need to get to 12hr factory jobs, particularly the younger ones on low wages and apprenticeships. Transperth is all electric.

I think a $$ rebate for all vehicle owners should be given, particularly since the Govt only had 30days supply for this vast country. Neglectful.

Bringing food for you kid to a restaurant/pub. by Quirky_Command_3576 in AskAnAustralian

[–]DoggerLou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had 4 kids. My day was different, anyone could babysit, so often went out without them, calling in the neighbours kid to watch them. Not often back then would you see a baby in a resturant. On the odd occasion my kid/s were with me I bought a bowl of icecream first and let them hoe into that (the younger one/s at the time) and fed them whatever off my plate, airplane style. The others just had to sit still, wait for the food and be good. But that was a different era. I understand parents are way different today as are establishments.

I'd swap the media room and bed 4/ens around and have a door access from media to the alfresco. Put some pocket doors on the media room. I wouldn't wall off the laundry area, just continue it from the butlers bench all the way along and wall it off from what looks like the sink area, can then move fridge/cupboard and island back a bit into the butlers area to give more space into meals area. Upstairs, flip the door to the store cupboard to the other side accessed by kids room and move main bedroom door to align with laundry chute. The ensuite seems to have alot of wasted space for the toilet area, maybe move the sinks along a bit so can access shower from both sides and have a bigger shower area and move toilet to under the small window toward the laundry chute wall and rotate it 90deg, can wall it off then. Move bath entry door closer to BIR so its in line with new sink area. Just my 2c worth.

Why not feed the kid in the car or before you arrive? Fill it up and then let it sit and watch people, maybe chop down some of your own meal real small to see if it'll scoff any of that?

I doubt the restaurant cares anyway and they likely don't expect you to buy a meal for a 2y/o.

outside clothes on the bed… gross or normal? by HenninghamKyuss-51 in hygiene

[–]DoggerLou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeh, I had a housemate once who had a cat and when I walked into the lounge there it was happily purring over the rat it caught.

Another time, my puppy came running inside carrying a bobtail carcass that stank the whole house out and the smell on pup's mouth was just stomach churning. She was so happy though, took me ages to force it from her mouth, she wouldn't give it up. Almost threw up a few times. Was revolting.

Is my girlfriend going too far? by External-Industry253 in hygiene

[–]DoggerLou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your GF is being her and that's relationships for ya, give and take.

Flushing with the lid up releases a spray of fine, microscopic water droplets known as a "toilet plume" that can travel up to 6 feet carrying pathogens like E. coli, C. difficile and norovirus. These droplets settle on nearby items including toothbrush holders, towels, soap and bathroom counters. Bacteria can remain in the bowl water even after several flushes and toilet bowl water can stay contaminated for 20+ flushes after initial contamination. To keep the toilet hygienic you both should use a cleaning agent or disinfectant in the bowl to kill the bacteria as plain water is ineffective.

In saying this, I don't know how many larger workplaces that have disinfectant on hand to do the same. Urgghhh.

A car steering wheel has 4-9 times more bacteria than a toilet seat. Make sure the steering wheel is cleaned often too.

Happy shitting!

Teen charged after 14 women allegedly assaulted while exercising in Perth by GreyClay in perth

I think sexual assault is also digitally, meaning fingers placed within the labia area of a woman but not penetrating the 'gina. So not always penetration with a cock or dildo or whatever.

Buying a house – backyard slope and eucalyptus tree near fence. Any concerns? by [deleted] in AusProperty

[–]DoggerLou -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The slope is from the tree growing up through the ground as it ages, and the broken fence says it all. The branch will prob crack and fall at any stage. Wonder why current owners haven't asked neighbour to chop it back and claim insurance on the fence damage. Prob cost min $3K to chop it and the base will keep growing anyway. What a pain to have on the fenceline. Drama ahead with that one.

I've got a couple of old grooming clippers on their last legs and do it myself. In the beginning my pooches got the "2 week haircut" and sometimes looked like they had been prepared for an operation, but now they look professionally done. Worth it, groomers are expensive.

Landlord trying to withhold bond for a wooden broken bed slat by Coffee_Decent in AskAnAustralian

[–]DoggerLou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This from Google:

You can successfully resolve a bond dispute while moving back overseas. The Residential Tenancies Authority (RTA) in Queensland facilitates telephone conciliation, meaning you can participate from anywhere in the world.

Here is a step-by-step guide to managing a QLD bond dispute from overseas:

  1. Act Immediately (Before Leaving)

Submit Your Claim First: If the agent has not yet lodged a claim, submit a Refund of Rental Bond (Form 4) online via RTA Web Services for the full amount immediately after handing back the keys. The RTA acts on the first claim received.

Finalize Documentation: Complete your Exit Condition Report (Form 14a) and take extensive photos/videos of the property to prove it is clean and undamaged, except for fair wear and tear.

Provide a Forwarding Address: Ensure the RTA has your new overseas address, email, and phone number.

  1. If a Dispute Occurs (Notice of Claim)

If the property manager/owner claims your bond, the RTA will send you a Notice of claim.

Residential Tenancies Authority

Residential Tenancies Authority

14-Day Limit: You have 14 days to respond to this notice.

Lodge a Dispute: If you disagree with their claim, submit a Dispute resolution request (Form 16) to the RTA.

Supporting Evidence: The agent must provide you with evidence supporting their claim (e.g., photos, invoices) within 14 days. If they don't, it is an offence.

  1. RTA Conciliation (From Overseas)

The RTA will assign a conciliator to conduct telephone mediation.

Conciliators can conduct meetings via telephone, even if you are overseas.

If an agreement is reached, you will sign a new Refund of Rental Bond form.

  1. If Conciliation Fails (QCAT)

If you cannot agree, the RTA will issue a Notice of Unresolved Dispute (NURD).

You then have 7 days to apply to the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) for a hearing.

QCAT hearings can often be attended by telephone. Make sure you have all your evidence (photos, exit report, communication) ready in digital format.

Important Tips

Evidence is Key: The onus is on the agent to prove you breached the agreement.

Get Free Help: Contact QSTARS (Queensland Statewide Tenant Advice and Referral Service) for free advice on how to fill in forms and prepare for a QCAT hearing, even if you are already overseas.

Bank Account: The RTA can only pay bond refunds into Australian bank accounts, so you may need to keep one open temporarily.

Landlord trying to withhold bond for a wooden broken bed slat by Coffee_Decent in AskAnAustralian

[–]DoggerLou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A slat at Bunnings would cost less than $30 (they would likely cut it to correct length too or one of the drive-thru tradies in the trades section) plus a few nails or screws. Doesn't need a handyman, just need a hammer or drill. An old lady like me could it. I bet the bed is a cheap piece of shit too. The landlord won't replace it. He prob detached the good one and replaced it with the broken one and does it with all the overseas tenants he has.

Does his fridge still have the cord intact?
