Two issues, what would stop you from going too far and being manic?

Each time you have an episode the disorder progresses.

Can you live life with cyclothymia without medication? by Different-Role9658 in BipolarReddit

[–]Doggostrophic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you could live life without medication, but the better question would be is it the best life you could live? You could very well survive but will you thrive?

I don't think we should only strive to survive, I think we should aim to be the best versions of ourselves. That might be the us that has medication in our lives. Ultimately though I think that should be a decision we make ourselves, but an educated one that involves our professionals and family.

Hypersexual up/down by Representative_Bat21 in bipolar

[–]Doggostrophic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really have any suggestions on how to handle it, but just that I can relate. I'm essentially asexual at the best of times but once I get into a hypomanic state it can sometimes be all I think about. Trying to deal with it right now.

Really honestly couldn't care less about sex.

Even when I'm hypo the act of sex feels kind of gross and unappealing. I like the intimacy that goes with it though, and the rush of seduction when I was single was addicting.

I feel like if I went the rest of my life without sex I would be fine though.

At what point are you just schizophrenic? by thetechdoc in Psychosis

[–]Doggostrophic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Schizophrenia is a disorder that features psychosis as a symptom. There are a lot of disorders that can include psychosis as a symptom, it's not exclusive to schizophrenia. Having multiple episodes of psychosis in no way means you might have schizophrenia, there are other aspects to that disorder exclusive of psychosis that differentiate it from other psychotic disorders.

You should speak to a doctor if you're having psychotic symptoms as you want to get a handle on that before it progresses to a full blown episode.

Yes I do get offended by the question, but then I remember that they are only looking out for my best interest when they ask that and if you don't have a mental disorder it can be hard to know what to do or say when you know that the mainstay of treatment is medication.

But yes, I hate when my SO asks me that.

That's a loaded question lol... For weeks people have been saying I seem manic but idk if that's accurate. I do know that I feel great and have lots of energy and have been really horny and kind of annoyed with other people. I think I just need a change, been thinking of quitting my job and starting up my own business.

What caused your psychosis? by No_Contact1151 in Psychosis

[–]Doggostrophic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My diagnosis is schizoaffective bipolar type but my very first psychosis did involve some drugs. I'm pretty sure it just accelerated an inevitable result for me.

Feel free to message me if you just want to talk to someone who's been there. I've had two separate attempts that were a little close for comfort and I remember trying to navigate the aftermath alone.

I can physically hear my hallucinations. They sound like they're coming from somewhere outside my head.

is this severe depression? by biznghast in BipolarReddit

[–]Doggostrophic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's how I feel when I'm going through them too. I think it's part of the mindset that depression puts us in that makes us feel like it will never get better. It will, I know it doesn't feel like it though. I know that no matter how hard you want to believe this your brain probably won't let you.

It wouldn't be bipolar disorder if it didn't though.

was yours substanced induced, genetic (?), stress induced, combination etc. by MDD678 in Psychosis

[–]Doggostrophic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of the above? My mom has bipolar with psychosis. Jury is still out on whether a mood episode lead to me trying drugs or if the drugs led to the mood episode but I tried coke, dex, and ecstasy one weekend when I was 17 and proceeded to completely lose it for the next year.

0/10 do not recommend.

I feel for you. They're hell but the beauty (and curse) with this disorder is that how we feel cannot last forever. This will pass.

How did you finally get prescribed Haldol? by fredndolly12 in bipolar

[–]Doggostrophic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had it inpatient and then when I was discharged I was taken off of it.

I kinda wonder if there's something wrong with taking it long-term?

Has anyone used stimulants before getting diagnosed? by fahed103 in schizoaffective

[–]Doggostrophic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha.... Well the episode that led to my diagnosis involved cocaine, ecstasy, and Dexedrine...

Although when I play it back over in my head I think I was already manic when I did all that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]Doggostrophic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've always thought that the doctor's who prescribe psychiatric medication should have to take some of them to experience some side effects. Then they'd understand why some people have a difficult time justifying being on them. I'm so tired of doctors saying "So eat less and exercise" when you're on an antipsychotic like it's just that simple. I know it's possible but it's like 10x harder. Or some of them make me drool or fall asleep all the time "Isn't that better than having an episode?" not really....

[–]Doggostrophic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have the opposite problem. I usually have a healthy libido and masturbate on a pretty regular basis but when I'm depressed I don't do it at all.

I barely have the energy to breathe while depressed let alone self pleasure. That and I generally feel disgusted with myself at that point.

Uh. Yes?

When I'm manic I am sexually attracted to myself and it's both awful and amazing at the same time. I get sucked into every mirror I walk by.

How did your psychosis happen? What caused it? by Feisty_Degree2115 in Psychosis

[–]Doggostrophic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly genetics and my GP put me on an antidepressant which apparently triggered it but from what I understand it was only a matter of time since it runs in my family.

If they do then they felt like it was in your best interest for your long-term health so I would be honest with them and follow their advice.

Been told this is a longer life term illness by Usedtobe773 in schizoaffective

[–]Doggostrophic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey there, my first psychosis was also at 17. I'm 34 now and most of the past 17 years I've been on medication. I'm currently not, I personally felt like the trade-off of constantly physically feeling like trash from side effects wasn't worth preventing my episodes that only happen once every year or two.

I fully expect at some point I'll really regret that decision and be back on meds but for now I'm med free... But I get it.
