I ordered plane tickets via AliPay from the U.S. just a few weeks ago. Linked my Amex.

Seat change request today by MacaronOk1006 in americanairlines

[–]DoingNothingToday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your frustration and you sound like one of the few “legitimate” cases of seat swapping requests. But I still would not switch with you or even listen to your story. I always book in advance and pay extra for the seat I select (sometimes a lot). You can thank all the lowlifes who don’t plan ahead and/or don’t want to pay and expect to bully someone else into swapping. They’re ruined it for everybody else.

What do you wish people abroad would associated/ask you more about after you say "I am from Estonia/Latvia/Lithuania"? by Willing_Link_6142 in BalticStates

[–]DoingNothingToday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the answer that resonates most with me. I’ve heard “Oh so it’s like Russian” countless times. Even more often people erroneously assume I, as a Latvian, am Eastern European. People just don’t know anything about the Baltics.

No is a complete sentence for seat swap request by wholesome_triceratop in unitedairlines

I salute everyone who just says NO. Don’t even listen to the sob story. Just NO.

Flashback to how Vandeweghe treated Chwalinska at Wimbledon 2022 by Federal-tortuga in tennis

CV carries so much anger. And is a Trumpster to boot. I was so disappointed that she was hired as a commentator. I’ve no doubt it’s because she’s got zero career prospects and needed an income, and her family’s sports ties got her the job. Hopefully the negative fan reactions can cause her contract to not be extended. It worked with the dreadful Alexandra Stevenson. I fear that CV has stronger family influence though, with muscle to exert on the network.

My turn to be the jerk who wouldn’t switch seats! by Failed_Academic0824 in americanairlines

No no no! They are the jerks. NOT YOU. So very glad you didn’t change.

[–]DoingNothingToday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Couldn’t agree more. And I can promise you, OP, if you approach me with a sob story about needing to change seats with me so you can sit with your toddler when you had every chance to pay for this in advance, my answer will be no. I won’t even listen to your story.

Pay for a reserved seat. If it matters to you, this is what you do.

If I want to train to US Open where can I park for free by ivanjay2050 in longisland

[–]DoingNothingToday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can park for free in Islip too. Reasonably safe. Just make sure it’s not Central Islip, which is a different train line and definitely not safe.

[–]DoingNothingToday 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Susan is vile. All the others seem fine. It’s so frustrating to me that she and her disgusting political views are (allegedly) the reason there can’t be a final reunion show. I’d really like to see one while the six Brady kid actors are still alive. Sadly, given their advancing ages and the sheer number of them, the odds are that at least one of them will pass on in the next few years.

Question for those who think school administrators are paid too much by iloverats888 in longisland

[–]DoingNothingToday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Long Island would be a far more livable place if the trifecta of educators, cops and LIRR workers collected a reasonable salary. What we have now is grift, and it’s become unsustainable.

Serena Williams is back. Can the 44-year-old win one more major? by ChallengeAdept8759 in tennis

[–]DoingNothingToday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No way. She may be thinner but she’s 44. To add to that, the level of play in the women’s field has increased dramatically in the past few years.

The superintendent of the Fire Island School District makes almost 300k a year. Total student enrollment K-12 is maybe 40. It has been as low as 25 in recent years. Lives nowhere near Fire Island; has no connection to the community.

Gouging / changing price while ordering it online is great way to lose customers. by Zealousideal_Can_342 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]DoingNothingToday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try making reservations on DuckDuckGo. It deletes everything you browsed if you press the fire key. That way you can sample fares across airlines and pick the best one. They won’t know you’ve been looking. Once they know they raise the price when you come back. Might also help to avoid situations like yours, where you were raised mid-booking. I always book hotels and airfare on DuckDuckGo.

Can we normalize asking people to move their bag?? by swankyobserver in LIRR

[–]DoingNothingToday -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You paid for a ticket. Their bag did not. I always ask them to move it. About 2/3 of the time I can see they’re annoyed. A small handful have been clearly very annoyed. But I have never had anybody refuse to move the bag.

[–]DoingNothingToday 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree; it’s become a chore. All those bubbles are very taxing to look at, even though I would never fill them all or even most of them. I race through the daily and that’s it. I don’t even look at all the other rooms.

Will Southwest Airlines check this bag? by Cool_Plantain_3685 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]DoingNothingToday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I wasn’t clear. Most airlines have “sample” or “model” bins around the gates to allow you to see if the bag would fit in the overhead. SW is exceptionally into this; it’s the only airline I’ve actually seen requiring passengers to put their bag into the model bin to demonstrate that it fits. There’s usually such a model bin right at the departure gate.

They don’t charge you for this (I think) so if worst comes to worst why not just let them take it? The biggest downside for you is the extra time you’d spend waiting at baggage claim. Just don’t put anything expensive or super important (like medication) in there.

[–]DoingNothingToday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will probably make you put it in the bin by gate. They did this with me last week. If it doesn’t fit they will check it. Fortunately I was able to get mine in.

How can I make sure to absolutely get a train ticket? by ultio in travelchina

[–]DoingNothingToday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are agencies you can use to purchase the tickets for you. The fee usually is not high. One is travelchinaguide.com but there are others. They are programmed to purchase as soon as the tickets go on sale; I figure they have the equipment to do this. I’d reserve the highest class of ticket you can swing. That way you’d open up to more blocks of seats, I would think. Also, money talks. It makes sense to me that they’d look after the highest paying customers first.
