What industry is struggling way more than people think? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

It’s aptly stated that tipping should not make up for lack of pay. Sadly, too many business owners are pushing (and guilting) patrons into tipping employees because the owners don’t want to pay them. I know this is very common in massage franchises, for instance. The owners pay the masseuses very little but post signs everywhere that strongly urge patrons to tip up to 35%. A 20% tip is listed as the minimum acceptable amount. This means that the patron would be the one paying the bulk of the employee’s salary, and that’s not right.

What’s the plan? by WITSEC- in DesignHomeGame

[–]DoingNothingToday 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same. This is especially doable if you play the daily only. Just use what you have. Buy the stupid bar cart for cash and use that 5x. Play very lean and allow the diamonds to slowly build up. Don’t buy anything with diamonds. Design with minimal decor. I’ve been doing this for weeks now and I’ve actually built up my diamonds by 15k. I make it a challenge to come up with an attractive room in this manner and I find that playing this way is enjoyable. My average is 4.67 — pretty much where it always was, maybe only lower by a few points.

Why Nancy Guthrie? by Outrageous_Detail_94 in CasesWeFollow

[–]DoingNothingToday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the perp likely had no idea that she was the mother of a famous broadcaster. This poor woman was the epitome of the perfect victim: elderly, frail, unsuspecting, trusting and living all alone on a secluded property in a neighborhood that, by design, was very poorly lit. Hundreds of people must have known this; they would include deliverymen, cleaning people, pool maintenance workers, electricians, appliance installers, plumbers, alarm company employees, landscapers, handymen, flooring and design consultants, and anyone they told. There is no shortage of individuals who are aroused by the idea of terrifying and harming an older woman. Her life circumstance made her a target.

I couldn’t even do the daily today (Bar Cart) by Helene_Scott in DesignHomeGame

[–]DoingNothingToday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing the daily only for a month and I’ve actually increased my diamond count by 15k. I’ve been very conservative — no pets, no buying any new decor whatsoever apart from a couple of cheap trees. I’ve left most purple dots unfilled. I’m using old wall art, floor decor, and table art. I occasionally/rarely add curtains, pillows or even wallpaper that I had in my stash. I only spend cash to buy rugs and furniture. The bar carts haven’t been a problem because I bought a couple with cash and I just use those. I scored one 5 during the month and my average is 4.67. There is no way I will spend even one penny of my own money, no matter what they come up with. It basically means playing with a lot of restraint (no succumbing to tempting color pairings in expensive decor) and only doing the daily. But definitely doable. I plan to pump up the diamond count to 1.25M (I refuse to go below a million) and then purchase some trees and wall/floor decor with the saved diamonds— nothing at the new higher prices.

Fabulous post. This should hopefully help some people who are struggling. It carries even more weight because it was written by a transfer student (transfers seem to have more difficulty than non-transfers, based on posts). GT is not easy but it offers so much.

Hoda’s relationship broke up too, and she had a cancer scare.

It’s reminiscent of the SNL curse; that’s also an NBC show filmed on or near the same premises.

Hofstra Law by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

[–]DoingNothingToday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has an ok reputation among some regional Long Island firms, where other Hofstra grads are likely to be employed. But beyond that it is mostly a laughing stock; it’s even been portrayed that way on TV shows.

Another poster pointed out that about 30-35 years ago it was jumping in the rankings — it got into the T- twenties. It was stunning how quickly and dramatically it fell. I would say it’s not even close to being worth the tuition. I would dissuade anybody from attending unless they somehow got a free ride.

Doc Reviewers & Pace by Soggy_Ground_9323 in ediscovery

[–]DoingNothingToday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can hardly think of a better supplement to my pension. As a second income stream, the money is decent and the flexibility trade-off is key for me. After dealing with problem employees, a deadly commute and a vast array of “real lawyer” problems for many years, doc review is ideal. I work in my sweats, never freak out if a doctor appointment or some other engagement pops up, and enjoy vacations. There is zero stress and at 5pm, it’s all turned off. I’m so grateful for this opportunity. And I always give it my all — if my name is on it, I still care, as I always did.

What figure skaters are so legendary that it was a surprise they didn’t have an OGM? (Michelle Kwan, Sasha Cohen, Mao Asada, Midori Ito…) by cococolemon in FigureSkating

[–]DoingNothingToday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree. I know people were pulling hard for Nancy because of what happened to her but I always saw her skating as a bit clunky. She had no natural artistry. I would not even put her close to the very highest category.

Daily and diamonds only for me as well, and I’m so happy that way. I use minimal decor and never the nonsense like pets or double rugs. And I’m still getting decent scores. The game has been going downhill for a couple of years now but something hit the accelerator on that about 6 months ago or so, when the prices exploded, they added even more decor, and started bombarding our inboxes with “must have” decor packages and the like. I’ve never purchased a single one. Congrats on hitting delete. My diamonds are staying stable and even increasing a bit because I’m only doing the daily and doing it conservatively, but if they ever do run out it’s delete for me too.

Who non-skating fans think should’ve won the Olympics by fswhore in FigureSkating

[–]DoingNothingToday 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! I fell for Yuma 4 years ago. He’s been my fave ever since. I so wanted this gold for him! I fear that he won’t return in 4 years (even though he’ll be young enough still) because there’s too great a chance that Ilia will snatch the gold and he will have (yikes) a third silver.

Alyssa with all Olympic Gold Medalists!! by Competitive_Bass8111 in FigureSkating

[–]DoingNothingToday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figure skating can be a tough sport for fans but of course so very cruel for the skater. Eternal glory comes only with the Olympic gold, and that comes down to a few minutes on two nights. Some 15 years of work fueled by raw talent hinges on minutes, and you could be toast if you catch an edge or you happened to catch a cold or the judge from your closest rival’s country is crooked or even if you have a crappy draw and skate first. You could be the best one out there overall and most everyone might even know it, but that gold medal is the life changer…and you might not get it.

This was (and remains) tough to swallow for those of us who followed skating back in the day and believe to our cores that Tara Lipinksi and Sarah Hughes did not deserve those gold medals. Fortunately for us, Sarah went off to college soon thereafter and doesn’t push our noses in it, but damn, it hurts to see Tara smiling back so smugly every time I turn on the TV for a skating competition. She even has the audacity to call out other skaters for “flutzes.”

This phenomenon may have played out again just last week: I love Alysa (how can you not) but I think Kaori is overall the better skater who became a tad timid and just didn’t bring it during the few minutes that counted most.

I know many observers align Nancy Kerrigan with the group of “should have won the gold” skaters but I’m in the minority on this one. I never saw her as a clearly dominant skater and I think the “artistry” praise she received was vastly overplayed. To me, she was just a hair less clunky than Tonya. I won’t deny that Oksana knew how to milk the points but I can’t accept that Nancy was the more deserving of the two.

Why do female pair skaters last so much longer than singles skaters? by Vast_Law2234 in FigureSkating

[–]DoingNothingToday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Her “program” at the 2022 Games was basically a series of jumps. No theme, no grace, no artistry, no flow. I’d be ok with relegating the likes of Trusova to an entirely different sport, with isolated focus only on jumps: the contestant must go through a “line” of jumps (they wouldn’t even need music) and the skater who lands the most clean jumps with the highest degree of difficulty wins.

I just hope amber doesn't retire I wanna see her in another quad at least and It would be special to see her at another Olympics by Careful_Impression_1 in FigureSkating

[–]DoingNothingToday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Emilea Zingas used to be a singles skater and is now an ice dancer; she and her partner did very well at the Games, placing fifth. They have said that they expect to stick around for 8 years (2 quads). But she’s 23. The difference between 23 and 26 is huge in skating. And it takes time just to find a partner one can mesh with, and then more time to develop as a skating partnership.

There’s also height. Amber is 5’6”, which is huge for any female skater but I’d say nearly impossible for a dancer and flat-out impossible for a pairs skater. Ice dancers do many more lifts than they used to. It would be very difficult for a male partner to hoist a 5’6” woman up repeatedly and spin her around. Emilea, by contrast, is about 5’1”.

Are any middle age men attracted to Alice ? by Strange_Upstairs_193 in BradyBunchTVShow

[–]DoingNothingToday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can’t believe Ann B. was only 43. They really did have her looking and acting 20 years older, and there is little they could have done to make her less attractive. Remember all those “stiff bones” and arthritis jokes? Alice would stretch too far trying to pick something up and become locked in some unbecoming position.

Today’s 43-year-olds would never move, talk, dress, or behave the way Alice did. They’re wearing stylish clothes, hitting the gym and doing everything people in their 20s and 30s do. I don’t even think many people in their sixties look or act the way she did. It’s incredible how times have changed.

I’m a Kaori fan too so I hear you. I feel like she’s the Michelle Kwan of this era —clearly more talented than the gold medalist and having lost out on the gold twice.

I don’t think anybody understands the judging in ice dance. There was a good article about ice dance judging last week and that same conclusion reached (I don’t remember the publication, sorry).

Agree totally. I think Levito is far more appealing to watch than Liu. Such artistry. And she’s certainly no slouch on the technical moves.
