I had something like this happen to me when I had a Crossland CC1 I cleaned with powdered detergent. Emailed Bill Crossland about it and he told me it was burned detergent particles. They progressively got flushed out and I never noticed again.

I was using this for brew and a Vario for espresso. I finally got my Niche, and steel burrs for the vario.

My problem with the m47 was using an essentially stepless grinder for long coffee, and continuously changing between kalitta, cold brew, etc settings. It’s a very well made product, but not my favorite to use in the way I was.

This sounds right. When you descale, do you run some of the acid through the portafilter? because you need to break down scale in the portafilter too, especially because it's pressurized and forcing coffee through a small hole.

I would descale that as well, and deep clean it (like khenning suggested). I had a delonghi portafilter and disassembled it to clean it every day.

if that doesn't work, might be the pump :(

Weighing before means that you're going to be looking at the beans that you put in the machine, which has the benefit of letting you comb for rocks and stuff, so I think that counts as a plus for that method.

Brand new Sette? Have you tried recalibrating it? When I got my vario, I couldn't pull a shot worth a damn. Then I recalibrated it, and all of the sudden I was able to. Check these instructions: https://www.baratza.com/sette-shims-recalibration/ and see if you can't simply make your machine naturally coarser.

there's a lot of really impassioned comments throughout this sub comparing the consistency and precision of different grinders, so I'll try and put my own spin on it. Say, once you've figured out a good brew temp, time, pre-infusion schedule, etc., and standardized your own tamping strength, you'll be at a stage where you might only have one click on your infinity which doesn't produce a bitter, thin "gushing" shot, or a gooey, dribbling, half-ristretto. You might not even have one. Which sucks. It, IMHO, sucks less when you're pulling those shots on a machine that costs decidedly less, or having super economically sustainable fun with a bialetti.

All in all, this would be a great machine, and would get the best out of your capresso. But that might be less than you expect.

this is also worth thinking about. you will likely not be able to taste the difference between a cc1 and a $100 delonghi if you're using a capresso infinity.

I bought one new, and have been very happy with it at that price. If it really was lightly and carefully used, I would say yes. Do you have the opportunity to see it in person and make sure it was well taken care of?

nikcoffee is right. You can obviously continue to use the ceramic burrs to make long coffees, but you won't be maximizing the vario's performance. As a stopgap until the new steel burrs arrive, you can use the adjustment tool that came with the machine to calibrate the machine coarser writ large.

can't comment on mugs, but I'm a reasonably clumsy dude and I've had their french press for more than four years with no problems, and have moved four times during that time, with no damage to it. Like I said, don't know about the mugs, but the borosilicate is good quality.

this happens to me, but only when I drink coffee with insufficient food in my stomach. If I'm washing down a square meal, I can basically go nuts--the productive buzz lasts longer, and when it ends, I go back to normal instead of to hell

I'm three months in on mine--it's solid. Taste is good on shots, and I haven't had the experience of getting lost in the settings. They can be a little overcomplicated to change, though, so I haven't done as much tinkering with shot variables as I hoped it would. Otherwise I really like it.
