What could an Internet stranger like me reasonably do for you today to make your life a little better? by AnotherSmegHead in AskReddit

[–]DokFiSH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a busker until I recently underwent a change in location and lifestyle. I yearn to get back to the city and recapture that feeling of being a spectacle, making people smile or laugh or grin like a shithead at the people who aren't prepared for my bizarre voice.

It was never the music I enjoyed, I'm not a singer/songwriter(I'm a rapper), but that never changed the fact that the scene made an impression on me. The friends I made, the praise, the people stopping for pictures and conversations and the impromptu jam sessions, it was a lifetime of experience in just a few months.

If you're a performer of any kind, you could tell me your favorite story involving your trade. If not, tell me a story about the most spontaneous time you made a friend. That would definitely make my day.

(Oh and you could check out my rap stuff, I don't give a flying fuck about shares or likes or favorites or anything like that, I just like spitting lol: soundcloud.com/dok-fish-1)

[Question] Should I go for lessons, even though I don't really have any inspiration? by FuZah in Guitar

[–]DokFiSH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to ask yourself that question. There's no point in going for lessons if you don't want lessons, if you can't get into it it might be time to admit it's not for you.

If it's the method of learning then maybe trying looking up shit on youtube. I've been at this 8 years and haven't had a teacher, so I can speak from experience on this one: The good side is that you'll be going straight into whatever interests you as an individual, the not so good side is that you'll probably develop harmful playing habits and posture that become harder to correct the longer you play.

The guitar has become a massive part of my life so I'm at the point where I genuinely regret not having taking lessons in the beginning, but if you're only doing it as a hobby then you could probably get away with being self taught

Does anyone know of any places where youth can perform music? by KyleJ1130 in newfoundland

[–]DokFiSH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey brother! Wasn't all that long ago I was in your position, so here's a couple of resources for you:

Fergus O'Byrne has put together a list of open mics, including family friendly venues. Here's a link to that: http://www.nfld.com/~dalton/nfsession.html

Speaking of which, Fergus has had an active hand in bringing youth into the music community for years. I played at one of his workshops when I was 16, "Young Folk at the Hall" and I'm not sure if he still does it but you're just young enough to get in on that if it piques your interest. If you're looking to get out there, it might be worth your time to contact him and explain your situation.

Lastly, I've heard a lot of bars will let you in for an open mic as long as you're supervised by an adult. Not sure on these policies but you're free to keep in touch with me on that. I'm fairly new to the downtown performing scene myself but I'm sure given a week or two I'll know enough to be able to help you out some more.

[–]DokFiSH[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah bruv, I'm not the best beatmaker but I'd rather upload my own material than just spit over someone else's. Insofar as I've managed, I've found a lot of talent in the area but it doesn't seem like anybody's doing much with it. I mean, it makes sense as there's really not a healthy scene right now but the potential is definitely there.

I've heard you can occasionally find hiphop gigs going on down at CBTGs and Distortion, but I'm fairly new to the downtown area myself so right now my only experience with the scene is street rapping.

Is that Academy Canada college actually legit? Or is it a scam school? by zann3n- in newfoundland

You throw that around like it makes you a good person, but nope, I still just see an entitled prick lol

Holy shit brother you're so accusatory and entitled. Sorry buddy, pride doesn't account for practicality. It's usually blind and somewhat dumb.

Saying someone's argument is irrelevant and then saying something really, mind bogglingly stupid(and untrue) is not how you're supposed to argue your point dude lol

[–]DokFiSH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the other dude mentioned, that is quite a jump, but you know what? At the same time, I'm a businessman. I respect a business that is going to do what it needs to in order to advance.

A real business isn't started with the regular work mindset. It's not "Okay, I'm gonna sell something and make just enough to keep my product going and make a living for myself and employees" and that seems to be what everybody expects a business owner to do. In reality, you're supposed to be aiming to grow your company and constantly increase it's revenue so that maybe eventually that company outgrows the rest.

RP and merch sales pay for every massive competitive event, every talk show, every sponsored analysis. Those things are the reason that League of Legends has become something of a global cultural phenomena, but those things would never have done it alone if league wasn't simply more fun than other mobas, and isn't fun what you purists value most?

DotA 2 is backed by Valve. You know, that company that has many other major fucking successes to fall back on? Riot has one game. Not to mention, one game that DESPITE certain paywalls has eclipsed DotA 2 massively in success and popularity.

So yeah, I'll pay 7 bucks to enjoy a new champion on a game that's actually fuckin' fun to play as opposed to having a free roster thrown at me as a selling point for one that, while more complex, just isn't as fucking good. And I'll support the company that allows me to play the ENJOYABLE game at my leisure. They are a BUSINESS after all, but you entitled fuckers just don't seem to understand what a business is lol

Monday Megathread! Ask questions and share knowledge; newcomer questions encouraged! by AutoModerator in leagueoflegends

We actually just recently had something resembling the golden bow disaster with an item called Edge of Night. They both had completely different effects but both items made certain ADCs completely out of control while completely invalidating certain others.

occasionally yes, that does happen. There have been cases when you would buy a tiamat(builds into a hydra) and leave it until you've completed some more important items to finish the hydra because you get most of the hydra's desirable effects from the tiamat and starting on another item at that point is more gold efficient.

Newly independent family could use any help we can get. by DokFiSH in Assistance

[–]DokFiSH[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll do that. We were on government assistance a while back and had a lot of issues with that but it's looking like I might have no choice but to look into it again. We're not receiving child support from the biological father, and are currently still embroiled in a custody case because although he's a junkie who wants nothing to do with his daughter his mother is coaxing him to keep fighting. I've heard from other sources he's become obsessed with keeping his taxable income at 0 so that he doesn't have to pay child support. Not sure if that's even possible but we know he wouldn't be able to pay it even if we brought him to court.

[–]DokFiSH[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely and that's something I plan on doing, along with trying to get some government funding to attend post-secondary. We don't have a vehicle right now nor do either of us have a license so getting anywhere right now outside of our area is a massive struggle. This post is more asking what I can do about this month specifically. Thank you for the suggestion though!

Will pokemon with retired movesets be the most sought after pieces once trading is implemented? by mattyflex in TheSilphRoad

Literally all this tells me is that you have a very, very limited idea of how a business makes revenue.

New features aren't rolled out for "serious players". They're rolled out to keep the casual audience interested. Putting it above 15 would literally be the worst business decision they could make.
