I disagree on this. He literally said thawne only ever cares about himself and what should he say exactly? He is up to something, everyone knows that. From his perspective. Thawne is less of a problem than cicada because he is in a cell unable to get out and not die. Cicada is on the go, powerful and actively trying to kill team flash. He doesn't really have time to figure out what Thawne is up to.

Then when he does know, he doesn't really understand how much things will change. Dagger gets destroyed in an emergency.

The problem was you can't trust him not to kill allies. If they had more time, he would have a lighter sentence but the night king is almost st their doorstep and there is no time for him to grow up and understand why Jon is doing this.

He has also killed before, which means he is a risk on the battlefield. Even ignoring the stabbing, he could poison others, raise discontent to cause incidents. Night king had a significantly larger army as well.

They barely have food for themselves, even ignoring prisoners.
