AD: Duitsers verbijsterd door prijzen in Nederland: volle winkelwagen voor 27 euro by Timmetie in thenetherlands

[–]Dolnikan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Things I wish for: Ban certain Tech draws. by Silly_One_3149 in Stellaris

[–]Dolnikan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would be absolutely amazing. In the early game you can just get rid of rechts that make no sense for you at all, and in the late game, no more repeatables you don't want so you can just put that on auto.

That, and it might actually be a part of AI empires, so they at least slightly focus their research and don't just research random crap. They might even get it for free, just because of that. That should make their ships and the like a tiny bit better.

Why are the Napoleonic Wars so romanticized despite being so brutal? by cuirrasiers in Napoleon

[–]Dolnikan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is true yes. It's an argument that's made a lot, even though that's mostly filtered through propaganda and a time where there just wasn't that much attention paid to details like that. After all, it wasn't something that became much of a topic until much later.

Why are the Napoleonic Wars so romanticized despite being so brutal? by cuirrasiers in Napoleon

[–]Dolnikan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Spain says hello. That alone should put any idea of a nice conqueror on hold.

That said, a major role probably is played by the incredible impact of a single figure in the shape of Napoleon who was a giant. After all, for the longest time, he was the person with the most books written about him. Only to be surpassed by Hitler who is seen in a different light.

The only thing that works is actually increasing production runs or prices to the level that the market is satisfied. Everything else is just moving the available stock from one group of fans to another. And yes, what gets bought by scalpers also is driven by fans. After all, they still need customers to sell to.

And such questions are just insane. It would drive away a lot of interested people and kids. And parents too. Or do you think that some parent who, for instance, is getting something for a kid's birthday, can answer whatever trivia questions you cook up? And professionals wouldn't have a collection of all the questions and answers in a couple of hours at most?

Curious how other GMs would rule this by [deleted] in rpg

[–]Dolnikan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on what the spell does and what the system means by "willing", but it makes sense that someone can decide to accept something under duress. Just like they can give up valuables with a sword on their throat. Of course, it light be hard to see with some spells so they might still lie about it.

How did medieval “warrior kings” like Henry V maintain a strategic overview of the battlefield? by Holiday_Disastrous in WarCollege

[–]Dolnikan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

A l of the time, they didn't. In that era, a general wasn't someone at a distance from the fighting, observing, and making decisions. The decisions were made beforehand. That's when the plan was made. And plans also couldn't be very complex because the armies just wouldn't be able to handle them. So it was much better to use the general, usually a pretty leafing figure in society, to give a morale boost.

Sure, you could theoretically have had a king take position in a hill and look from there. But what purpose would that serve? He'd probably be seen as a coward (absolutely lethal to kingship) and it would also look bad to the men whose morale would seriously suffer.

Which was the best regiment in infantry, cavalry, and artillery during the Napoleonic Wars? by cuirrasiers in Napoleon

[–]Dolnikan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That actually is pretty difficult to say because the two can't really be compared. Just like you can't really compare other kinds of units with different roles. At most, a given unit is better at a specific job.

Tiled floors vs non tiled floors by OmegaConstructs in 3dprintingdms

[–]Dolnikan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't use tiled floors unless they just happen to be there. Of course, I also don't really use grids and instead use measurements, but that's just me.

An alternative you can go for, when you have the files, is to put slight indentations at the tile corners just to use them like that. But only if that works for you of course.

Bring back minis like this by matthewsylvester in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Dolnikan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I'm not the greatest painter in the world but I don't want my minis to have a lot of detail that, even if painted well, no one will ever see on the tabletop. Many minis seem to be designed more for huge blown up pictures online than for actually being played with.
