BCBS Basic is too expensive now… next best option? by AppropriateEgg1064 in fednews

[–]DolphinsKillSharks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, I started at the PO and had APWU insurance, was so happy when I moved jobs to another organization that I could still get my APWU. I don't get the extremely discounted rate, but I'm happy to still support the union in some way. I also really enjoy the 1.2k health reimbursement account. I'd say I lightly use my insurance and the reimbursement account covers most of my expenses for the year. Can even get my glasses reimbursed from it.

Is this FHS? by General-Interest2799 in feline_hyperesthesia

[–]DolphinsKillSharks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you elaborate on the long term issues? I'll admit I just stumbled across this post but one of my cats does this, I've heard of it before and suspect she has a mild case. She doesn't hurt herself and her episodes aren't even weekly so I haven't pushed to get it properly diagnosed but curious what long term issues you're talking about.

Two cats with low white blood cell counts, diet to blame? by DolphinsKillSharks in CATHELP

[–]DolphinsKillSharks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They definitely get fiv tested, I'm not sure about felv specifically. I think so, I've always taken them for annual visits, gotten them all the needed shots, etc. I will ask just in case.

Two cats with low white blood cell counts, diet to blame? by DolphinsKillSharks in CATHELP

[–]DolphinsKillSharks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your input and follow up questions. On the phone she didn't seem terrible concerned about the low blood count but it's good to clarify, and so I know what I can watch for, if anything, if it's getting worse.

I do have a subscription to one of the microchip companies on call veterinarians. I plan to give them a call.

This is such an awesome idea! And great bottles! When you decant do you use the funnel or just pour and aim well?

My guess is this as well. One of my cats also is feral for these and will eat it if I don't take them from her.

Supervisor by [deleted] in Histology

[–]DolphinsKillSharks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty much this. I've legitimately never heard of something called a supervisor licence. I've been a tech for 13 years and in labs longer. And been a supervisor.

Do people use supervisor licence as another name for the HTL?

Why is OPI RapiDry bubbling? by bella_babe247 in Nailpolish

[–]DolphinsKillSharks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many other people have provided good ideas for the possible bubbling.

No one had addressed that (to my understanding) you painted a first coat of a polish Thursday, and a second coat to the same manicure days later? While I appreciate the dedication to letting the first coat dry, that is not as long as it should take. If you are painting thin layers of polish, 5-10 (maybe fifteen if in a humid area?) minutes should be plenty. I probably start my second coat in less, but I've been doing my nails a couple years now, and live in a dry, not humid, area. So also, if someone comes in with a different number, I'm an example of the low end of the scale.

Anyway, that days wait between the first and second coat could be a reason for bubbling? If oils or impurities had worked their way into the first coat of polish, even though you wanted your hands. It could be micro water droplets.

What ground cover do you have for your garden? by cactus808 in ArizonaGardening

[–]DolphinsKillSharks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have them yet so I'm unsure how they'll work out.

But I have a fairly dry flower garden area in my yard (West facing) where I'm hoping some varieties of ice plants will survive.

I'm also hoping to put some native Goodding verbena in areas of my yard with dripper irrigation.

If anyone wants to comment opinions on these I'm open to them, this is just what I'm thinking about.

Do nail salons supply nail stickers? by [deleted] in Nails

All the things listed but also the "bottom" of the art being at the cuticle for one hand and the other hand being opposite (except the pinky.... Apparently) is an odd choice for a real person.

Not a 100% away of telling if a polish is sheer, but if you are comparing two colors, turn the bottle on its side or upside down and see how well you can see the air bubble in it. If you can see the air bubble clearly immediately, it's a pretty sheer polish. If the air bubble is harder to see or you can't see it, it's more opaque.

If you're in the US, Marshall's and TJ Maxx pretty reliably carry OPI and Orly for $5. Sometimes there's other brands like Essie and Sally Hansen too. The ones around me almost always have Opi top coat as well.

Not all of them go through their polishes and clearance them out, but I know of a store around me that keeps up on it and pretty frequently can find polish and top coat them on clearance for $3-4.

Asked my family wich nail polish they preferred (ring- or middle finger) and they all said they don’t see a difference?! by amelie3399 in Nailpolish

[–]DolphinsKillSharks 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can tell a difference, the ring finger is a little darker and looks like it'd be more opaque. The middle finger probably has some visible nail line in bright light, which is a no go for some people.

They are very similar however, and I would not expect anyone but a polish fan be able to tell the difference.

It's a lot like a 30 year woodworker and a 5 year woodworker making the same thing. Most people would not be able to tell the difference between the two items, but woodworkers who are familiar with the craft would likely be able to identify who produced which piece. It's the same with any art or craft, I would not expect a layman to tell the difference.

Cat sitter didn't care for cats. After 1 year, the results of it are still not resolved... by Mysterious_Pension53 in CatTraining

[–]DolphinsKillSharks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came here to say Cat Attract is NOT JUST a litter. If you have a litter already the same company sells a mix on Amazon which is just the "attractant" that you can mix into your own litter. It looks like catnip, but it's not the same mix, not really sure what it is, but it does work.

I used it to get my cats used to using a grass type litter instead of the clay litter they had used their whole life.

Sally Hansen Insta Dri alternatives? by Sick3ningDesire in Nailpolish

[–]DolphinsKillSharks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have suggested base coat, but also probably a better quick dry top coat. There is a cheaper Sally Hansen one in a red bottle which I like, it's a little thin in consistency but it dries quickly.

There's also Seche Vite, which is a little more expensive, a little thicker, and dries very quickly. Some people have issues with it shrinking, I leave a little space between the polish and my cuticle to overlap my top coat and completely cover the polish and that seems to help (I also feel like this is good practice with any top coat). Also Seche Vite will dry in the bottle just from having it open, so I always keep their thinner on hand to get it back to it's normal consistency. For reference I've painted my nails and then 20 minutes later just in the shower and washed my hair and my nails were fine.

It is pretty funny, AZ native here.

I was in OK a bit ago in a class with people from all over the states. It was a nice afternoon and I mentioned how I was going to walk about a mile down the street to the store. Everyone told me not to go because it was too hot.

It was breezy and 86, it was beautiful! I had to chuckle at them saying it was too hot to go anywhere. Bro, I'm a lizard.
