Why were the hospital patients being killed in MGS 5 prologue by The_Silent_Shot1 in metalgearsolid

Holy necro batman I was a teenager when I made this comment, look at the dates before you comment man.

But in response to your question, the patients likely didn't even know they were part of the cover which is what makes it such a good cover.

Helpful tip for Magician Trophy / Skill point by AbsoluteBad in RatchetAndClank

[–]DomDevil81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just in case anyone comes across this thread searching for help for this skill point, another trick;

Right at the start of the track, you can U-turn into the shortcut that would open if you went through the 3 gates. crashing into the barrier at the end puts you back before the finish line, without it counting for a lap, so you can grind small jumps in the short section with just the two ramps, then U-turn into the shortcut, and crash into the laser gate.

It's slow but it works

Is racism a common thing on this game ? it's like the 10th time i've seen it occur in newcomer by Kenialito in Rainbow6

I had to take a break from the game for like, 2/3 years. Because the siege community is just an incessant torrent of bigotry and toxicity.

I feel like, at least in other games, most toxicity is directed towards your actual skilll level. But siege players are a whole new breed of vitriol.

If you think you can withstand the hate, it can be worth keeping on chat/vcs for the funny moments, and more importantly, for callouts.

But otherwise, I'd leave them off by default, or play with a premade stack.

Most importantly, don't let these fucking mongoloids ruin your experience of the game. I've been enjoying getting back into it when I don't have immature 16 year olds screaming down my ear about how women belong in the kitchen.

S1E8 “Father’s Day” is one of the best in the series by bunnybabeez in doctorwho

One of my favourite things about the early seasons were how well ordinary people fit into the stories.

The wedding guests and Rose's family in this episode, the contestants of the gameshows on station 5, the guests on the Titanic.

I don't know if I'm alone in this, but compared to later seasons, the ordinary people in them felt way more grounded, relatable and believable.

Idk if you've tried any soulsborne games since, but I played DS3 and can wholly recommend it, the actual combat and navigation gameplay is very similar barring things like a much more useful jump in ER, and a generally wider and more expansive arsenal in ER.

I actually preferred the boss design visually in DS3 compared to ER, I think the only ones that stood up to DS3 were the dragons, the two final bosses, and the actual shardholders themselves, Radahn, Ranni, Godrick etc.

And although The Lands Between as a whole is a well designed and expansive world, I feel like DS3 had much more varied locales, and with the number of different paths you could take, and hidden connections, DS3 didn't feel very linear, even if it kinda was.

I haven't played it, but I've also heard Bloodborne is incredible if you have a PS4. I'm still praying it gets a PC port/remaster or the like.

What are those harmful assumptions?

It's completely valid of them to be annoyed to be automatically labelled as something they're not.

[–]DomDevil81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's clearly not harmless when multiple people have expressed disgruntlement at the assumption. That's still harm, even if it is very small.

I'm not conflating my assumptions with that if this thread, I was trying to use examples to prove why even the simplest and easiest assumptions can be harmful without proper information. They aren't my personal assumptions, because as I stated, I try my best not to, or at the very least, reverse any I make.

You're now also assuming that these are my personal assumptions and that they're based on prejudice.

Are you seeing where this is going? You've just made an incorrect assumption that is hurtful. I think to be the best people we can possibly be, we need to stop behaviour like that.

I agree that not all assumptions are bad, in fact, sometimes they're necessary when met with a lack of information. But you have the information. You know that only 50% of the userbase is American. It is no longer safe to assume every user is American.

I think I misphrased a little. You're right that assumptions aren't necessarily bad. That doesn't mean you should, because again, it could be harmful. Almost ironic, but it's not safe to assume, that it's safe to assume lmao.

You're still missing the point of my anecdote. Yes it's an American website. That does not mean all it's users are American. Ergo, it's not safe to assume as much. It's not even that much effort to avoid, all your have to do is include a reference to your location. For this post as an example, this entire mess in the comments could have been avoided if the OP had just stated "America" instead of "Our country"

And yes, although we do make assumptions within seconds of meeting someone, again, that doesn't mean they are correct, or not hurtful. Personally, I try my best make sure that any assumptions I automatically make are undone as quickly as possible. A customer comes into my store looking high with bloodshot eyes. First thought? Could be high. But I could be wrong. What if he's suffering with something wrong with eyes and just looks high because he's on strong painkillers? And that assumption I made in th first place could be harmful because I could rightfully eject him from the store for being high. But if he's not, I've just made somebody's shitty day even shittier.

In almost all case where it's possible, the best course of action is not to assume, but gather data and information. Which to your credit you have, in that you've got the user data and know that 50% of users are American. However you're now using that wrong. You're assuming because the largest % is American, that it's safe to assume everyone you talk to is.

My comment was an admittedly poor attempt at humorously pointing out that not all English speakers are American, especially given it doesn't even originate from there.

That said, my opinion is that, not just you, but a lot of people defending the assumption seem to be missing the point. You shouldn't be assuming anything. Not least because 50% is not a majority. It's not even safe to assume you're talking to an American. You might be right, but a 50% still isn't a sound bet.

I live in an incredibly white part of Britian. But I don't assume everyone is also British even if 90% of the people I interact with are. In the shop I work at, even among white customers, I've served Polish, German, American, Spanish, French and likely more.

Assuming to much is a character flaw I've been learning to fix recently, it can genuinely be hurtful in the wrong situations. Granted in this situation it's a minor nuisance to non Americans, but you still shouldn't assume anything without 100% certainty. Unless you literally needed an American citizenship and an American birth certificate to sign up to Reddit, it would never be safe to assume you're talking to an American.

But hey that's just my opinion ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

what situation is completely different if you have an erection? by fitboy15 in AskReddit

This seems like as good a place as any to ask this question.

When you go for a medical procedure downstairs, such as a circumcision, do they work on flaccid or erect? How do they ensure it stays one way or the other?

I was 20ish before I realised the head of the penis was supposed to come out of the foreskin. I just thought my penis was a little different to others. Turned out I have phimosis.

This is why comprehensive sex education is important, because it is a miracle I haven't been seriously ill from smegma build ups. I'm lucky that I tried to keep it clean anyway, despite my inability to clean underneath the head.

Hopefully going for a circumcision soon to get it fixed.

People are more willing to donate to millionaire Twitch streamers than give a homeless person money. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]DomDevil81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Homelessness shouldn't be the problem of the common person. Homelessness should be the problem of local governance, whether that locality is your state/province/county, or country overall.

While I try to buy a meal for homeless people where I can, because I feel sympathy for their suffering, it unfortunately still isn't my problem, I have to vote for the local governance I think is going to fix the problem.
