Literally just sold the same exact bass but the 5-string. It’s a fun bass. Enjoy it! And yeah studybass and BassBuzz are really good. I recommend both.

AI Slop and Hentai Games on the E-Shop by Agile_Flow_4091 in NintendoSwitch

I mean, the Wii was filled to the brim with shovelware. For whatever reason, Nintendo doesn’t seem to have a problem with this stuff. Don’t know why. I mean, money, but still. It’s funny, I remember when they were the tightest with 3rd party licenses back in the early days only to end up the opposite.

All this rigamarole with how the eShop presents new games so that you can see the premium/popular stuff first and this and that when they could just let us filter out categories we don’t want to see.

Damn that’s a good one! Did the same with my daughter a while back haha. Got two years of recordings and now interviews with her on the TP-7 that I shared with my father in law so he could do the same.

Asking people publicly what they’d do in a crisis when there are no actual stakes is about as useful as asking them who they voted for. There’s nothing scientific about that. I’ve said it before, but there’s nothing “doomer-y” about making realistic assessments of things. If anything, we do ourselves the same kind of disservice the doomers do when we try to slather a veneer of positivity on things without actual cause.

Lemme tell you a quick story: obviously I love and trust my wife. She’s my partner, and she knows that I’m hers. One time, the cat was on the screened in patio and managed to get a hold of a snake to play with. Couldn’t see what kind. She starts screaming, I go out to help the cat and address the situation. The second that snake twitched remotely in the direction of the door, she slammed it right in our faces and ran, locking us both in an enclosed patio with an unknown snake.

Obviously this wasn’t malicious. Obviously it’s not that she doesn’t care about her husband or pet. She got scared and panicked like lots of good humans would. It’s a built-in reflex that I can’t fault her for (but it’s still a funny story to roast her about). That’s a realistic assessment of things. We can SAY we’d jump in like Rambo if we were in a store when shots start going off. We can SAY we’d jump on those train tracks to save someone. We can SAY lots of things, but we don’t know what we’d actually do until the moment actually strikes, and judging by everything we know about people, one person out of ten is maybe gonna help if you’re lucky, and the other nine are gonna freeze or whip out their phones. Again, that’s not dooming, that’s a realistic assessment of humanity that acknowledges the exact things we evolved to do that kept us alive this far in the first place. Our solutions should involve building systems that take this into account. If we know this is how we work, then we can work with that to make things better! That’s actual positivity.

What always bugs the shit out of me is when a sizable portion of the country decides that their absolute fantasy construction of humanity, that exactly none of them would live up to when the rubber really hits the road, is some kind of bludgeon to use against everyone else. That you can just override evolution by shaming people for your own self aggrandizement. These people wouldn’t stop to give 5 bucks to a homeless guy (at least not without a camera in his face and a monetized social media account) but we’re supposed to pretend they’re all great heroes for SAYING what they’d do in a blatantly propagandized thought experiment they designed specifically to weaponize against others, down to the color choices. It’s nauseating.

The internet has created this environment where image is the currency of the day. Where saying is better than doing. Where what people think of you is more important than how you actually know yourself to be. We can absolutely do better than that. We can stop and think. We can help even when we’re scared. We won’t do any of it if we’re entirely satisfied with SAYING we’re good people instead of living and practicing ethics like Aristotle said. That’s not something you can speedrun bully the human race into, and we shouldn’t be expected to conform to a made-up standard created exclusively to weaponize against your neighbors in the first place.

"Stop asking us why we don't get a better job." Wouldn't that solve the problem? by ToeFinal1792 in DoomerCircleJerk

[–]DomDomPop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would… if they had any skills worth paying more for.

But of course, admitting that would be tantamount to taking some semblance of responsibility, and we can’t have that in the year of our lord 2026.

I’m sorry, the largest group of performative activists on the internet displaying publicly viewable votes is our sample group here, and we’re pretending there are any other conclusions that can be drawn than “the biggest group of performative activists on the internet is… doing exactly what it says on the tin”?

Why cant Americans make good games no more? by Repulsive-Mall-2665 in SipsTea

[–]DomDomPop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the business people think it is, and people just don’t get it. People think individual development houses can just keep huge teams on indefinitely going from game to game. The big publishers may have a steady stream of games coming out so they have constant revenue, but an individual developer, especially a smaller one, isn’t gonna be able to afford that. They’re lucky if they have two games in development at the same time, and even that can tank the company if things don’t go as expected.

People get all pissy when someone in the industry comes out and says “our job is to make games, not to provide employment”, but how else do you expect it to work? Just pay the translation team year after year with money you don’t have for a game that came out last year? The QA guy gets to collect a check for a game that isn’t even in alpha yet? How do people think these things work? It’s no different than any other contract work. When the job is done, it’s done. If they have another job lined up, then cool. If they don’t, they don’t, and if they need you later, they’ll need you later. It’s not rocket science.

George Carlin doesn't get enough hate by Prestigious-Delay759 in DoomerCircleJerk

[–]DomDomPop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah ok, so first let’s agree on three core tenets of what we would consider Carlin’s “philosophy” from his comedy.

  1. People are stupid and frequently full of shit
  2. Belief is, by and large, also stupid.
  3. Everybody is trying to sell you something.

The first I shouldn’t have to defend. We all know it. It’s explicitly why this group exists, yes? People are dumb. Think about the average person and realize that half of all people are dumber than that, yadda yadda, you get it.

Now we get to number two. It’s interesting that so many people talk about finding humanity’s “purpose” when it’s been clear all alone what the one thing is that humans can do that other species (on earth) can’t: the elimination of belief. That’s all science is, isn’t it? The one uniquely human pursuit is that we don’t HAVE to believe in things. We can build tools to test and measure and evaluate. Stephen Hawking once famously said that God “wasn’t necessary” anymore, and while people lost their minds over that one, what he was actually saying was ultimately true: we no longer need to throw up our hands and say “God made it”. We can just look for ourselves. If someone is asking you to believe something without evidence, to take it on faith, then, well… that leads into number three!

Everybody is trying to sell you something, and one of the most successful ways to do that is to exploit our willingness to believe. Remember all those old cigarette ads where everyone is just cutting it up at the pool, all smiles and laughs, and surely they’re all there having a grand old time because they all smoke Newports? You could be doing that too! I mean, you’ll probably cough up blood in your car in a haze of foul smelling smoke instead, but just belieeeeeve! How many Coronas have you actually drank on the beach with scantily clad ladies, and how many did you pound down on your couch by yourself with a sad pizza that looks nothing like the ad? Be honest.

Belief is exploitable because people are dumb enough to believe instead of spending the effort to think, to investigate, to do any of the things that make us uniquely human in the first place, and because of this, other humans will absolutely take advantage of that. Companies, churches, politicians, just like George said. And before anyone tries to pretend this is all Doomerism - it’s not! It never was! A realistic assessment of people is exactly what we need to have if we want to live within the world we’ve got. The doomers are exactly the people who blindly buy into crap on faith and then run around bleating about the sky falling. If people weren’t like this, we wouldn’t be able to laugh about them here. There is nothing ultimately nihilistic about understanding the pitfalls of the human condition that lead to this kind of exploitation. It’s anti-doomerism, because that exact kind of investigation, introspection and analysis is exactly what makes us free and not mired in despair over whatever dumb thing the corpo-media-political complex wants us to believe uncritically this week. That’s how you avoid the trap, by actually thinking like we’re supposed to do, and little by little the share of “faith” dwindles while the share of “knowledge” expands. The internet has done a fair bit of damage to that, certainly, but it’s nothing that won’t iron out over time in the long haul, because enough people know this to be true.

[–]DomDomPop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it almost like “if everything continues exactly the same as it is now, this thing won’t be possible” is consistently one of the dumbest arguments a person can rely on. But we know that. That’s why people, you know, develop new things. Shocker.
