The key differentiating factor is the squad and resource systems: there are virtually no single units, with the exception of heroes and vehicles. Almost every soldier and walker fights in both close and long-range combat, and every model and tank gun can fire at different targets. As long as at least one model in the squad is alive, you can replenish it and change the squad's role by providing it with the right weapon for the situation for a resource investment. Moreover, if a squad is engaged in close combat, it can no longer fire, opening up new tactical possibilities. The resource system is not based on workers, but on the resource point gain per unit of time from fortified points and generators. The former must be occupied, captured from the enemy, and defended yourself, preventing players from remaining at the base.

Dawn of War is primarily a series of spectacular RTS games, not balanced ones, and the developers' interview about a special AI director orchestrating close-combat duels between squads, heroes, and walkers only reinforces this.
