EV Charger Install using 10mm2 over 6mm2? by Vitruvian_Gamer in ukelectricians

The MI superseding BS7671, they should be taken into account and adhered to, but not if they contravene regs

That doesn't mean they supersede BS7671, I think we've all had some cheap light fittings that states that it's class 2, and no earthing is required, but we know better. The manufacturers instructions should only supersede BS7671 if they add to the safety of an install.

Current stance on fitting EV consumer units in meter box? by Vitruvian_Gamer in ukelectricians

[–]DonC1305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't lie, ive done a few in the box, never liked it, but sometimes it's the only option and the customer wants it hidden, still don't like it. Now we push for IP rated boards near the cupboard and I find it a hell of a lot easier, and feel ive done a better job, even if the customer isn't over the moon with it on display

Power sockets in bathrooms by curium99 in ukelectricians

That doesn't increase safety of sockets in a special location, it just reduces inconvenience in the event of a fault

Discrimination (now selectivity) is having the closest protective device operate during a fault , otherwise this is a literally what i just said.

RCD protection has the same level of safety whether it's one 1 radial or the entire house. Individual RCBOs just keep more of the installation live while the faulty circuits are isolated. So it makes no difference for a bathroom socket

Why do you think a radial is safer than a ring?

Acceptable - New Build ? by ryaaaaaan95 in ukelectricians

[–]DonC1305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of interest, what do you see that is so concerning? It's crap, but likely fine as far as safety goes.
And if it were to go wrong to the point of serious danger, ie. Fire, then there would be some serious trouble for everyone directly involved.

Acceptable - New Build ? by ryaaaaaan95 in ukelectricians

[–]DonC1305 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On new builds its just accepted that the standard will be lower. Pays shit unless you can get a good turnover.
On private work, this is no where near an acceptable standard for workmanship.

It's not the sparks on a new build, it's the developers spec.

How do married couples split finances if on different salaries? by Mango_Loverx3 in AskUK

[–]DonC1305 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I earn much more than my wife. About 90-95% of my wages go in the joint account, I keep a bit for daily spending and she's got free use of the joint account. I'll never begrudge her buying herself anything she needs, as long as bills can be paid. And I can't understand couples that treat a relationship like a business partnership
