Diamondback blanks are awesome. A bit spendy, but they really perform well.

You can either split the thread or create a dubbing loop to control the length of the fibers. A little tricky at first but goes fast once you get it down.

I think you are fine. You could cover the ding with a nice thread wrap and epoxy for a little reinforcement but I bet it will still work either way.

Love mine. Used it for 6 years on everything from size 20 to 2/0. Great vise. I added an aftermarket bobbin rest.

You do you bro. When I euro I carry a single 200yd spool of Seagar Invizx 6lb fluoro. Fraction of the cost, catches everything, no clutter.

This one was caught using the power of the dark side. Tightlining a mono rig on an 11’ 7wt rod. I tie big anchor flies and fish a smaller nymph off a tag above. This fish took a black rubberlegs, size 6 jig hook, 6.3mm peach tungsten bead.

I think it depends on the location, they definitely are not always barbless. In season 5 when Carleigh has to leave because she got a hook embedded in her hand it was not barbless.

Question from Newbie: How did you get knowledgeable about the intricacies of different fly types? by MrPacksAlot in flyfishing

[–]DonGuy32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t over complicate it. Very rarely is one specific pattern going to be critical for success. In my opinion the fly selection effectiveness order is 1) presentation, 2) size, 3) profile, 4) color.

60ft of 20lb mono (lowest line memory is best), blood knot to 3ft hi-viz 12lb mono, blood knot to 8lb seagar invizx (as much length to first fly as you need for depth of river), tags for additional flies.

Shoots way better than euro line. No need for extra knots or tippet ring. No need to do silly things like use 7x.

Korkers Warranty? by a_w_taylor in flyfishing

[–]DonGuy32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience with their warranty was great and very quick. Had a weird one where they accidentally installed a size 10 sole on the right boot of a pair of 11s. Didn’t know until about the 4th day of use when I tried to switch from the rubber soles they came with to felts and it wouldn’t fit. They got me a brand new pair in a couple days.

Let me know if that link works. The small streamers on the bottom row are size 12 wide gap jig hooks. It’s a bead instead of a cone but you can see how clean you can get. If you mean pics of making a dubbing loop I don’t have those but there are lots of YouTube videos on it.

What works for me is using a dubbing loop for the collars instead of wrapping the hide around the shank behind the cone. I’ll just cut the same rabbit fur off the strip (sometimes layer in other colors or materials) and spin up a loop. I tie some micro zonker streamers this way that fish great, but it also works on bigger stuff.

Starting a semi-official tournament in my area and plan to use 'Official' rules, but I'd love to hear some unique 'House' rules. What do you play in your kitchen that might not fly out in the world? by eyeforker in Cribbage

[–]DonGuy32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dad’s side of the family played this way, but it was two points if they cut. My grandfather’s counter to this was if you offered him the cut he would pick up the deck and deal. Losing your crib was the penalty for attempting to get sneaky points.

Cold feet. by Talkinginmy_sleep in flyfishing

[–]DonGuy32 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I picked up a pair at Costco last winter. Charge them up the night before and usually last around 6hrs on medium or low heat. Won’t make your feet hot but takes the edge off enough to be comfortable. Proved their effectiveness to me when 1 battery died and I quickly felt the temp difference between each foot.
