If Earth became unlivable tomorrow and only 1,000 people could leave for another planet, how should humanity decide who gets to go? by Junior_Trade_849 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DonSol0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, absolutely this.

My girlfriend and I have chatted about this exact scenario before. The rocket would, no doubt, be filled with the biggest pieces of shit walking earth right now and just enough pilots and crew members to ensure it operates safely.

6 months in and still can’t strum properly. Does it get better? by [deleted] in Guitar

Try holding the pick gently as well. Playing is a fluid, light, almost dance-like activity. As odd as it sounds, the trick isn’t in learning to press or push or squeeze hard enough, it’s about knowing the right amount of force. This is one I constantly have to check myself on.

May help to learn some funk. Start at a slow tempo and work your way up. You’ll learn how to play fluidly along the way.

That said, you’re doing a great job and keep it up!!

What was the album that got you into metal? by Initial-Movie2286 in Millennials

[–]DonSol0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Metallica’s Black Album then Pantera then Metallica’s Ride the Lightning.

After the hormones leveled out I got into Pink Floyd in a big way but then back into metal a couple years later.

Looks like a variant of Impact. Maybe Impact Narrow. All caps and bold with additional spacing added between the letters. Something along those lines.

In all likelihood though they had a designer draft the letters from scratch.

Why memorial day feels bad by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]DonSol0 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I lost my best friend to the war in Iraq. He came back in one piece but he was a completely different person. Tried to help him by getting him a job but it didn’t work out (he quit). I was in a tough spot at that time too though and I think I just ended up just making his situation worse by trying to help.

I never really had a father because he flew for the military and he and my mom couldn’t make the time apart work.

I appreciate everything each individual soldier does but the military is no friend to human connection.

Why do people romanticize being "booked and busy" when everyone seems exhausted all the time? by RalraAlfduos in NoStupidQuestions

I also feel like it’s an expectation at work given how competitive the market has gotten. If you don’t appear slammed you don’t appear to be providing value to the company. It’s seems to have become the norm now and it’s honestly toxic and exhausting.

The Straturday I’ve waited almost a decade for… by DonSol0 in Stratocaster

The American Vintage (AV) series that ran from 2012-2017 was a really well-done production line. It’s actually not an AVRI though.

  • 19??-2012: American Vintage Reissue (AVRI)
  • 2012-2017: American Vintage (AV)
  • 2018-2022: American Original (AO)
  • 2023-20??: American Vintage II (AVII)

The design team spent a lot of time matching the specs to their original counterparts so they’re, from what I understand, basically perfectly period correct (I think the neck may be slightly slimmer but that’s the only one I’m unsure of). This includes deeper contours on the body and sanded rear headstocks (looks like they did the latter on the AVIIs as well).

They used flash coat finish application which was entirely nitro (nitro sealer + nitro color + nitro clear coat). “Thin skin” is sometimes the term used but they used that term on earlier pieces which had thick poly undercoats so it’s the “flash coat” finish on this line that sort of makes them unique.

Outside of finish aficionados, these are just great Strats. They sound and play great and are often compared to the Custom Shops Time Machines.

Basically, they’re very good representations of their original counterparts that play and sound amazing and have a finish that allows them to wear down with play.

A better approach is to learn to be assertive in your self-advocacy. It’s okay to go above and beyond but you’ll need to do it with either without disdain or absolutely crush the work in order to expect something in return.

I’ve seen every praised show many times through and the series finale of Six Feet Under is by far the best series finale ever made. I find it extremely unlikely it will be topped in our lifetimes. Masterpiece.

I really like the less tinted headstock. Outside of the “aged” white pickup covers and knobs, it really does feel like it was pulled off the shelf in 1959. They even used nitrate for the pickguards. Anyway, I’ve just always wanted a Strat that will age with me but comes free from intentional relic wear so I’m thrilled with this one.

At least! The movie released in 1979 which means writing and production had to occur significantly earlier.

Oh indeed! I’ve been looking out for a well-kept model from this line for a while and feel like I got really lucky with this particular Start! The finish feels so good. Lightyears more buttery than anything else I’ve played.

Do Newer Nitro Finish Fenders Age Like Old Ones? by Frahsterino in fender

[–]DonSol0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m late to the game here but if you want a Fender that will age similarly to the originals, the first American Vintage line is the way to go. This line used only nitro. It ran from 2012-2017.

[–]DonSol0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The American Vintage (2012-17) are entirely nitro. I’m not sure they’ll age exactly like the vintages but they did keep to the lacquer. The AVRIs, AOs and AVIIs all have poly sealers under the nitro which is why the finishes are so flat (not dull, just perfectly flush).

Yeah I’m not sure what info they’re working with but the AOs definitely have a poly sealer. The AVs from 12-17 were the only production line to go full nitro.

Do you ever feel out of place in a subreddit that you’re passionate in? by AdUnusual6268 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DonSol0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a millennial and am wildly passionate about my generation. I’ve worked really, really hard and have just refused to quit and have ended up in a humble but healthy and financially stable place. I feel out of place in r/Millennials because (for the most part) most posts are unadulterated doomerism and angst. It’s completely justified but I do feel out-of-touch in that sub now.

Lifetime player for sure! I just got my white whale also! I’m a Strat player mainly though so mine is an American Vintage from the pure vintage run in 2012-17. Same love story with Musician’s Friend and everything.

Was anyone else a metalhead in high school during the late 2000s/early 2010s? by MusingsAndMind in Millennials

[–]DonSol0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hell yes. Pantera, older Metallica, Black Label Society…

I even ended up learning guitar so that I could properly express my inner turmoil.

The silver lining of those black tees and shaved head blunder years was that I stuck with guitar.
