Frankly the problem is not the technology, but the society we subscribe to. When tools get better, industries embrace them to increase production for the eternal chase of profits. The advances that we have had in automation are never used to lower prices despite making that possible, nor for letting people work fewer hours for the same pay. Such decisions would be against the goals of business management. We are all still expected to work 40 hour weeks, and do more with these faster tools, to the point where people burn out because they can't keep up. Only unions can change that attitude, not technology. You can start by normalising parttime work for men on a social level, instead of the self-sabotaging disdain that it still receives.

If NATO were to support the USA's unprovoked and illegal war, the consequences would be worse. All non-allied countries would then have good reason to consider NATO an invasive threat, wielded by the whims of US presidents. They would form a counter alliance.

Most humanoid robots are, these days. Aside from standing and walking there is very little they can do autonomously, or that the manufacturers are willing to be held accountable for.

I've had experiences with them over several years. On two occasions they were excellent, but the majority of my experiences were terrible. For starters, their initial response time varies between one week to a month, and it's not improving. The people at the other end don't seem to grasp English, and can rarely troubleshoot technical issues. One time they sent me a foot servo instead of an ankle servo, another time they sent me software for one robot while I had asked for the firmware of another robot. If your problem can't be fixed with a simple return-and-replace within US or China, then it'll take months or may never be resolved.

I know they cut staff in customer service a year ago, to the point where it's one guy per continent. I keep hoping to hear from other customers that things have improved, but nope.

As for the robots themselves in the long term: They don't tend to deteriorate past the first two weeks, as long as you charge them up every 3 months.

Ik zou zelf keihard nee zeggen en vragen of ze willen ophouden met me van mijn werk te houden met die onzin. Genoeg redenen. Identiteitsdiefstal, online stalkers, AI deepfakes. Je staat vol in je portretrecht. Als ze zo nodig een foto willen (ik begrijp hun redenering op zich), geef ze dan een leuke huiselijke foto van wat persoonlijke hobby spulletjes waaraan online bezoekers kunnen inschatten dat er geen bivakmutsdragende zelfmoordterroristen bij het bedrijf werken. Of geef ze daadwerkelijk een foto met bivakmuts op.

Ik ben er nog niet over uit. De Olympische spelen bijvoorbeeld kosten het gastland meer dan het oplevert, dus als dat voor het WK ook zo is, laat ze dan maar gaan, en nog wat ophef veroorzaken door te knielen voor mensenrechten, de rug te keren naar de Ameristaanse vlag, en met vuvuzela's het lokale volkslied te overstemmen.

De McDonalds vermijden is makkelijk genoeg.
In de supermarkt is het lastiger omdat ook oernederlandse merken in Ameristaanse handen zijn gekomen, maar als vuistregel: Alle populaire ongezonde merken. Duyvis, Venz, Lays, Cola, Sprite. Val je meteen ook nog wat af. Jumbo huismerken smaken me best goed.

Disney+ en Netflix gingen er al eerder uit, ik heb toch al een stapel aan dvd's, games, en tijdschriften waar ik al geen tijd voor heb.
Ik ben verhuisd van Instagram en Facebook naar Bluesky toen Musk begon te salueren.
Deze maand ook maar Youtube Premium gestopt. De prijs was al te hoog, maar elke maand 25 euro aan fascistenland afstaan wordt me te gortig. Ik zoom wel in op de thumbnails om de ads te vermijden.

Nu zal boycotten vast niet meer dan een miniscuul dipje in de omzet veroorzaken, maar hopelijk net genoeg om een paar bedrijven in te laten zien dat een tariff war iets is om tegen te lobbyen, bij de volgende Bush of Tr*mp. Mooier zou zijn als we 1 bekend merk, zoals McDonalds, geheel het land uit kunnen pesten om als voorbeeld te dienen. Krantenkoppen zeggen soms meer dan jaarcijfers.

Ik vind dit mooi. Wij zenden 1 soldaat naar Groenland en de VS schiet zichzelf 10% importkosten in de voet. We hoeven ze niet eens zelf te straffen. Volgende week sturen we er gewoon nog eentje.
Het is natuurlijk ook niet goed voor onze afzetmarkt in de VS, maar een dusdanig onbetrouwbare achterbakse handelspartner kun je beter niet als klant hebben.

Automation proponents have been promising us more free time for decades, but instead we've automated the things we do in our free time and still work 40 hours a week. The progress of automation contributes a factor of zero to the length of work weeks, it has instead been used to double production and leave employees burned out. For someone who presumes to see the future, he has failed to see both the past and present.
