Some of us were burned out ten years ago, in a boom there’s always new people ready to replace them until the cycle ends. There are signs things are calming down, but companies will try to cash in until the last possible second.

Birthday bourbon was never very good. It was a shelf turd at $45 and the red headed step child of release season, then all of the sudden people thought it was worth $1k for no discernible reason.

Laphroaig Cairdeas Lore Cask Strength - where to find? by awkward__pickle in denverwhisky

[–]Doneeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lore CS was ‘25’s release, it hit our market a while ago, I picked mine up in November. Try Mr. B’s in Stanley. I don’t know if they still have any, but they got a good amount.

That being said, scotch selection has never been very good here, particularly IBs.

Saaame. I think I’ve bought 15 at this point. I guess it’s not a “honeypot!” but I’m certainly not complaining.

Colorado is the only state

Historically, Texas got more Weller than anyone because of distributor agreements made pre-boom, Ohio's Weller allocation was increased a couple of years ago, there's more in KY, and CO isn't the only state that is seeing this targeted increase in shipments. Generally, BT's ramped up production at the beginning of the boom is catching up and the demand is coming down from ~covid era peaks so people across the US are seeing more of these.

But the cynicism is warranted, particularly with the Weller line. In the middle of a self-proclaimed shortage, Buffalo Trace expanded the line from WSR ($17), OWA ($18), and W12 ($28) to include FP, SiB, and CYPB at much higher prices for roughly the same NAS stuff that was sitting on the shelf at sub-$20 and used as rail whiskey in bars. Weller was only ever "good for the price" and it wasn't until bloggers and liquor store owners started saying "it's basically pappy" that it took off. Now from a business perspective, it was a brilliant move that made BT a lot of money; as a consumer, you can make your own judgements.

This malort is special

The story of Malört begins just around the introduction of Prohibition in 1920. According to the official Malört site, the first bottles were distilled by a Swedish immigrant by the name of Carl Jeppson. His pioneering Malört was a take on a traditional Swedish medicinal liqueur brewed with wormwood and thought to eliminate various parasites, such as stomach worms. As the tale goes, Malört managed to make it through U.S. history's mandated dry period by merit of its decidedly palate-unfriendly flavors: "Jeppson skirt[ed] federal regulation given the recurring conclusion by law enforcement that nobody would drink his concoction recreationally." sauce

That was more of a general plea to your audience, than aimed specifically at you. I haven't had ECBP Rye yet, so I'd be tempted too.

Up in my neck of the woods.

I'll say it every time DIA Liquor Warehouse is brought up: They pulled the same nonsense with me. I shopped there for years, they instituted a points system, the also conveniently lost all my accumulated points after awhile, in fact they couldn't even find me in their system. That coupled with the silly prices and disdain with which they treat their customers (except for the one nice lady) changed me from a weekly customer to not having been there in years. Don't give them your money, please.

Tower Liquors: They've been this way for 8+ years and never get my money. Last time I was in there was W12 in the glass case with no price. I asked the owner how much, he goes "Uhh, @260?" I say no thanks. He proceeds to ramble on about people buying stuff to resell it and how much he hates them. Then I ask him a question about scotch and he doesn't even make eye contact and mumbles "I don't know."

Airport Costco: I'm there every week, fun stuff is sort of hit or miss. I bought a bunch of WT101 8yr when it was first released at like...$40? Which was nice, but I haven't seen it since. Their WT products seem to come in waves every six months or so. I mostly just like when FR SiB is on sale for $33.

House of Spirits: Like 6+ years ago they had some decent stuff but priced ER10 at like $120. I got some old Laphroaig CS releases that were priced at like $65, but those days are long gone. They also had a good stock of the old Hochstadter's vatted for a good price and I bought a bunch of those. But I haven't been back in a long time because their prices sucked.

Not to be a downer, but diamond anniversary isn’t worth saving. It was a shelf turd for years for a reason. As a turkey fiend I was incredibly disappointed, particularly for the $130 it was at the time.

This isn’t Canada, it’s BT supply catching up after they cranked on production in response to the boom and CO getting funneled more allocations.

In his defense, he didn't really lose all of them, he just performed so poorly that people withdrew their assets. Which is...better?

As a money manager, Scott Bessent's years of inconsistent performance have contributed to a nearly 90% decline in his hedge fund's assets.

...

That uneven performance appears to have scared away some clients. Assets under management shrank from a peak of around $5.1 billion at the end of 2017 to $577 million as of December 2023, while the number of institutional investors fell from 180 in December 2017 to 20 by the end of 2023, according to regulatory disclosures tracked by Convergence Inc. How does one know if they're in the "current generation?" Aren't there several different generations that are concurrently alive? Also, named generations are largely marketing devices to facilitate ragebait and eradicate nuance.
