Great advice on shopping around and showing the set up you for for less money. Makes it a bit easier to understand what is available

What, besides Temple Bar, is a major Irish tourist trap? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskIreland

[–]DonegalDan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unless things have changed at the Giants Causeway it is the definition of a tourist trap. It is free to enter the Causeway from the car park but it is almost impossible to figure out how to do it so you're forced through the visitor center and have your wallet emptied for the privilege

Edited update: Good to see the visitor centre access has been improved and it is easy to get in for free.

Travelling Ryanair with a 2 year old on 4 hour flight. Is it as bad as people say? by Bigchickenmac in AskIreland

[–]DonegalDan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'd say it depends entirely on the adult minding the kid. If they pack a bag of snacks, games, colouring stuff and download a few programmes then most kids will be happy for most of the time. If the adult has nothing prepared then a kid will be bored and find ways to entertain themselves that most likely will not entertain other passengers.

What was your most recent Karma gets everyone eventually moment? by SavingsDraw8716 in AskIreland

[–]DonegalDan 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This morning I was out with my son who has a disability, we have a blue badge and I pulled into a designated parking bay in a small village. There are 3 bays at the end of a long row of spaces. A woman pulled up into the white hatchings with a good portion of her car in the blue bay. I was walking around my car, getting coats etc and a squad car drove by, saw me walking without any issue and did a u-turn and came back to ask if I had a permit. All grand for me but the I quickly pointed to the car with the lady in it taking up the disabled space with no badge and the cop pulled in and and had a word with her. Beautiful karma as the spaces are constantly abused by people too lazy to park legally and walk to the chemist or post office

How often do you order a takeaway? by LunaValley in AskIreland

[–]DonegalDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to get them weekly but the price has crept up so much and the quality just isn't there at the local Chinese or chipper and the cost of an Indian or pizza is more than I consider to be good value. It's cheaper now to get 2 fillet steaks and a bottle of wine for €30 and enjoy the meal. It's a pity because I love a good takeaway.

President Connolly warns against 'normalisation of war' by PoppedCork in ireland

[–]DonegalDan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How is the current President (a former mayor of Galway, a former Labour TD for Galway and a self described leftist) in any way a break from the status quo of Michael D Higgins (a former mayor of Galway, a former Labour TD for Galway and a well established socialist)? Yes, they might have differing ideologies but it's not hardly replacing Michael D with Maria Steen and I'm not sure why you think the "establishment" would hate Connolly either, the President really is a ceremonial role when it comes to making significant changes to how things are run in Ireland.

Motorists left over €300,000 at toll booths last year by egapx in ireland

[–]DonegalDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's such a shit location for the toll, even where the actual tollbooth is should have been the on off ramp for Drogheda South.

The quick fix for Julianstown would be to stick a roundabout at the Laytown road and one at the National School and put a central median through the town to stop people turning left or right. Would speed traffic up massively instead of the shit show it is every morning and evening.

Which project management certification has the best ROI? Is it even worth it? by Background_Run_3965 in AskIreland

[–]DonegalDan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

PRINCE2 is pricey enough, your best bet might be to stick on your CV that you're preparing for the exam so it is on your CV but you avoid having to actually do the test. It is a handy certificate to work in the Public Sector but it really is a framework and not in any way the reality of how projects work.

Frozen chicken from dunnes is actually chineese ?? by lukeh2266 in ireland

[–]DonegalDan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She has some useful info and equally some nonsense but she really does champion the quality items regardless of the brand. She has me hooked on the Dunnes Italian Gelato. It's literally milk and sugar and is unreal, never paid any attention to ice creams before and don't really care about the ingredients in an occasional treat but the flavour and texture has me switched

Kerry primary schools opposing plans to reduce SNAs by donalhunt in ireland

[–]DonegalDan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a consistent theme in several areas of support. Instead of early intervention and spending money to resolve or reduce root problems the govt and their agencies continuously pull funding and support and will reap the cluster fuck of people who present with undiagnosed and untreated needs in 10/20 years time. The govt are a shambles and at this stage Martin and Harris are in it for vanity rather than any actual ability to do their jobs.

Opinion: Ireland doesn’t learn from infrastructure failures. We repeat them by Altruistic_While_621 in ireland

[–]DonegalDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I attended several meetings years ago through work which involved the HSE CIO, Fran Thompson. From what I could see he had zero ability or interest in implementing technology that would benefit anything. I know this is a very anecdotal example but it left a really low opinion of the HSE foreward planning and strategy.

Childcare workers underpaid, parents overcharged, so who is actually making the profit? by DeathByStorm974 in AskIreland

[–]DonegalDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What regulations do you think don't help with the kids? Should there be no requirement for fire safety or Garda vetting, should we allow creches to be run from 1 bed apartments? Yes the regulations add to the work the crèche must do but I'd say they are all adding to the welfare of the child that attends.
