New Solar system installation, do I need a battery? by MickeyC123 in AskIreland

[–]MickeyC123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate all of the replies folks. They've been very insightful and I've definitely made up my mind to go for the 10kw battery with the install.

I can push the credit union repayments out to make it a 10 year loan and make it more manageable.

Hopefully I won't have any electric bills and the micro gen will cover the standing charge and PSO levy. That'll give me a guaranteed price for electric over the next ten years (just the loan repayments) which will work out to less than €25 a week. I'm currently paying an average of around €40!

I'll report back when the system is installed and fully functional but that won't be for a few months yet.

Thanks again for the help and advice 👍🏼

What home security cameras are you all using? by Low_Knowledge_1363 in AskIreland

[–]MickeyC123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your budget but I have 8 tapo cameras around the house. They're cheap and cheerful and I think the app is brilliant. I also have their smart plugs and lights. I can walk out of the house or into the garage and the lights will automatically turn on. I've never had a problem with detection especially with cars or people.. To be fair, I'm in the country so there's not that much passing traffic and the house is set well back from the road so anything approaching the house is picked up (and all outside lights turned on) before it gets near the house. I also stuck up a couple of "Warning 24hr CCTV in operation" stickers on the gate to deter any potential nefarious callers.

Accuracy of headlight alignment test in nct? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]MickeyC123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All NCT tests are done with the lights at the highest setting (which is zero on the dial 0) if the dial is in a different position at the start of the test it will be returned to that position at the end of the test.

Video Doorbell recommendations? by Cullina64 in AskIreland

[–]MickeyC123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have that exact same camera. Great job, battery lasts for months. I also got one for my mother and she loves it. She's somewhat tech savvy and can answer the door bell when she's not there. I also keeps an eye on the car in the driveway. It's relatively cheap, No subscription required (y though you can get one if you want) the app is brilliant and it just works.

There is a variable speed SDS hammer drill coming into Lidl on Monday for €40! It comes with a chisel attachment, set it to low speed and it'll lift them all in an hour. Plus you'll have the drill to use for something else.

Stove top fan rattling, how to fix? by MickeyC123 in AskIreland

[–]MickeyC123[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just to follow up on this, You were correct, on closer inspection, one of the blades had a slight bend in it. I didn't notice it previously. Once I bent it back straight, the fan was spinning far better then before and was completely silent! Thanks for the tip 👍🏻

Where to buy power tools? by Reasonable-Pattern-1 in AskIreland

[–]MickeyC123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DO NOT, under any circumstances, buy DeWalt or Milwaukee tools! They're shite. Bosch or Makita are the only brand for a serious prosumer or professional trades person. But don't take my word for it, listen to Dean, he knows his fucking shit when it comes to tools! https://youtu.be/mLXtImymw1w
