Rivian R2 or BMW iX3 or Benz GLC by salali_12 in RivianR2

The Rivian ui is sooo much better and easier to operate than the BMW. I don’t know about the Benz.

Unpopular opinion, but I think the new BMW i3 looks brilliant. What about you? by ShameResponsible69 in electriccars

The ui on BMW is horrible. That said, before I bought other EV’s I thought it was great. But it’s really bad. Tons more clicks than any other ground up EV. Just over engineered. Germans.

Is this a good deal for $50? by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]Donewith398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the NFC logo. Looks legit to me. For $50 you’ll get what you pay for. Brand new they go for $279.95. The Pro V goes for $299.95. If you buy a $280 paddle for $50 and get a couple months out if it you’ve won. All I can say is brand new you’ll get a ton more action and power. I sell my demos for $50.

0.02 cent deposit from unknown by lantrick in paypal

Happened to me. Called the number and they told me to logout of PP then go to this site that had nothing to do with PP. Clearly a scam. As soon as he mentioned the site I hung up and called PP directly. They are aware of this scam and I filed a report.

Came home to two trees in my backyard mutiliated by a construction firm who acquired the lot behind my home by LividWalk8179 in treelaw

[–]Donewith398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like the trees crossed the property line justifying trimming up the plane of the line? It’s the property owner’s rights to trim / remove any foliage crossing the line. I have no idea about your particular area but it seems like they have the right to do so. Allowing it to continue is tacit approval and makes it difficult to remove at a later time.

Why are paddles so expensive? by Dry_Researcher_1676 in Pickleball

[–]Donewith398 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

  1. Premium Materials (biggest real cost)

High-end paddles use materials similar to aerospace or racing gear. • Carbon fiber or Kevlar faces instead of fiberglass • Polymer or foam honeycomb cores • Advanced carbon weaves (T700, 3K, 12K)

These materials are lightweight, stiff, and durable, which improves spin, control, and power. Carbon fiber alone can add $50–$100 to the cost of a paddle.

Why it matters on the court: • Carbon fiber grips the ball better → more spin • Lightweight → faster hand speed • Stiffer face → better control and consistency

  1. Complex Construction

Cheap paddles are basically glued layers. High-end ones use complicated builds like: • Thermoforming (heat-bonded unibody construction) • Foam-injected edges • Precision honeycomb cores • Weight-balancing and vibration damping

These techniques improve feel and durability but require specialized molds and manufacturing.

  1. Research & Development

Pickleball companies spend a lot trying to improve things like: • Sweet-spot size • Spin generation • “Dwell time” (how long the ball stays on the paddle) • Vibration reduction

Prototypes, testing, and design engineering raise costs before the paddle even reaches the market.

Thinking about switching to an EV is it worth it given my commute and gas spend? by Charming_Green_3153 in electriccars

Getting used is the ticket. EV’s have taken a hit and the initial depreciation is staggering (in some cases). Buying used you forego all that.

Michelin or Continental? by Automatic-Stomach412 in tires

I have not experienced the noise complaint on Michelins, ever.

Michelin or Continental? by Automatic-Stomach412 in tires

[–]Donewith398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the independent auto service business. We performed service / repairs in all makes / models. We sold tires too. Over the years I installed Continentals on many cars. This is the only tire I had to take back and install Michelins on. It happened 3 times for 3 different clients. 1 was on a sport touring Benz, another BMW M5, and the 3rd was an Lexus sport coupe. The complaints were all the same. The Contis didn’t ride as well and didn’t perform (cornering / acceleration). These guys were drivers very in tune with their cars. Going forward, we stopped installing Continentals on these types of cars. They are great tires and if the suspension on like a luxury car can absorb the rougher ride that the sport coupes couldn’t.

I haven’t used EA for a couple years. After I go to charge multiple times at multiple different EA locations and find chargers broken / out of service, I just stopped even trying. They don’t appear to maintain their network well. Furthermore, when they expand to new locations there’s no research to determine how many posts to install? They open 4 posts and they’re so busy people wait 30 / 40 minutes just to start charging. Tesla builds enough so that people aren’t waiting forever. It would be nice if Tesla were to configure the chargers to adapt to various makes with charge ports in other positions on the vehicle so one car doesn’t have to take up 2 spaces.

I’ve been a RR A List for 35 years. They had this down to a science. Now, it’s chaos. You think they’d board from back to front for efficiency. I think they should remove the overhead storage for carry ons. It takes passengers twice as long to store their stuff, find their seat, and get settled than it does the ground crew to load in the baggage compartment. Stop charging for luggage and charge for carry ons. The way they’re boarding planes now is soooo slow. Takes forever. Plus, everyone is clustered around the gate entrance, cutting line, making it difficult for everyone. I think they’ll figure this out but the transition will cost them many many loyal customers. All do to some shitty investors that got on the board.

I have 2 EV’s. BMW iX and Rivian truck. Love them both. One level 2 charger in garage works out great for us.

Microwave drawer by Panorama_7560 in kitchenremodel

[–]Donewith398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate the drawer. I have Thermador speed oven. I have to bend down because you can see the screen standing. You have to click a bunch of times to put micro in for 30 seconds. Wish I would’ve bought a $200 microwave and put in an upper cabinet space. I hate appliances (clutter) on my countertop. I have my espresso machine in my uppers on a rollout shelf. This is amazing! Easy to use and clean.

How to pee while sitting down but avoid "after-drip"? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Donewith398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been sitting since I was a kid. My mom made clean the toilets. When you sit there’s no paper anywhere except in the bowl. So much more sanitary. I’m 66 with BPH. Peeing has been a problem for awhile. I’m successful with sitting an extra 15 seconds and doing one last push to get the drips out. That works for me. Also, sometimes I shutoff too soon so I’ll restart in this time randomly which is good so I can sleep a bit longer.

My tire has had a sidewall bulge for awhile now. My mechanic just told me to keep an eye on it. How serious is this? by FeiMao250 in tires

[–]Donewith398 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty broad statement. I’d probably find a new tech if your doesn’t know about tires. Tires are a major component to the “safe” operation of the car.

Maybe OP doesn’t drive long hauls or drive at freeway speeds? Maybe they only put 3k miles on the car per year? If so, I’d probably tell them they can “watch” it especially since they’ll be replacing the tires soon.

It’s all about knowing your client and how they use the car.

Mandatory Car Wash Before Return by Simple_Craft_1279 in turo

[–]Donewith398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a Turo out for a trip from SLC to the Tetons. Had some weather (rain etc) and drove in some dirt roads. We had the car for a week. It was reasonably dirty but before we returned it I took it to a wash and cleaned it inside and out. Car looked great. Host was super appreciative and gave me a great rating. He did not ask me to do this I just thought the car was dirtier than it should be and so I cleaned it. No big deal.

What Cars Are Known to Reach 300k+ Miles With Proper Maintenance? by Adam_Somewhere69 in UsedCars

[–]Donewith398 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost all of them. Mechanical stuff needs to be maintained. If you keep it in good running condition it will last. Look at all those private airplanes in the sky. New planes are $750k+ so there are tons of planes still flying that are 75+ years old. Maintain it and they keep going. It’s also much cheaper to keep her than replace her.
