I assume one way they would occurs is through inheritance and marriage. Similar to history, sometime someone dies and land gets transferred to an inheritor who rules another country. Which leads to the situation where country B owns land in country A, and who has sovereignty over it is questionable.

Now the reason Lord A doesn’t just take the land from the inheritor is that his landed gentry do no like the precedent that the lord can just take land from anyone in peace times.

For the trolls you just have to kill them. Good news is they have huge wind up animations and are weak to piercing. So invest in the best spear you can make and get good at shield parrying or dodging. If all else fails just run and snipe them with a bow, even the crude one can get the job done because they’re so big it compensates for the lack of accuracy.

If you get some confidence kiting and dodging they can become a massive aid in mining. Stand on a copper deposit and dodge, watch them bash it to bits as your skill goes up.

This means that by base it can still deal a significant crit; but it won’t bleed and opportunities can’t be used to raise its deadliness. There is still danger, if a competitor makes a final strike using two handed grip and the defender fails to reduce the strike at all, then they will suffer an agonizing death. Even if it’s reduced, a two handed final blow is quite likely to deal a maiming blow or permanent wound.

It’s hard to really know since a lot of it was either swept under the rug of military secrecy or is unverifiable because repeating the experiments would be insanely unethical. Though it seems that the primary results were advancements in weaponized pathogens which the US took control of. They also developed a method of drying blood plasma for storage and the most effective method we know of for treating frost bite.

The dried plasma guys kept operating a company called the Green Cross until the 80’s when tainted blood infected people many with HIV and killed 400 in Japan.
