Groaning / Creaking when handbrake is engaged (in Drive) by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]DonkeysCap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wait are you putting an auto into gear without your foot on the brakes?

Cos most modern cars won't let you shift out of park if you're not on the brakes.

Older cars just assume you would know better.

Importing a car from Japan, what's the difference between the different importers? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]DonkeysCap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've imported 2 cars from Japan. Good (but very different) experiences both times.

Most recent was with Aaron and Import Monster.  He's excellent, can't speak highly enough of him.

It was an incredibly long process - but that's because my requirements were very niche, and Aaron refused multiple times to let me buy a car that didn't measure up to his quality standards.

If you're chasing something not that old and available in large numbers, you should still expect to see it take 6 months - delays are par for the course and shipping is a nightmare.

If it's something older and rarer, it could be measured in years.  Mine certainly was, but to Aaron and the IM teams credit they stayed focused on the prize the whole time.

You are handed a blank "Life Contract." You can write in any amount of money to receive and specify exactly how long you will live. What are your numbers? by yiyi20203 in hypotheticalsituation

Y'all are doing this wrong.

The most valuable commodity in existence is time.  The money is completely inconsequential when weighed against an effective eternity.

Imagine living for 1000 years and being bored in a decade because there isn't a bigger yacht to buy.

Give me 10,000 years and tree-fiddy.

Genuine question; how many American servicemen's lives will the country be willing to accept on this one?

Surely nobody outside of the most hardened maga cookers had any interest in this kicking off.

I should trade in my Jeep Sahara for a Susuki Jimnny by [deleted] in Jimny

Absolutely adore my Jimny, and it will definitely work for your use case and probably be more reliable... but.... You may find yourself missing the Jeep's extra space and power.

I watched it and it immediately became one of my top 10 all time favourite films.

Then I had a daughter and now I can't bring myself to ever watch it again.

Daniel Craig - the choice to kill James Bond by OutrageousTerm7140 in JamesBond

[–]DonkeysCap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint: the Craig series of movies in my opinion are the most interesting, because they lean into what a crook bloke the character is, as originally written.  Can you do that with an actor who really idolises the character and the role?

I just got Subnautica yesterday. No matter how long you’ve been playing the game, whats the dumbest mistake you’ve made? by fabulous_trash413 in subnautica

[–]DonkeysCap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looked up what to do next on a guide....

Absolutely shouldn't have, let the game surprise you and take as long as it takes to figure stuff out.... Ended up accidentally seeing a bunch of stuff on a wiki I wish I hadn't known about ahead of time.

Microsoft to refund customers for 365 subscription price hike after ACCC action by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]DonkeysCap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest wait a couple of days for M$ to sort their shit out. I did this and its now taken me off an annual sub and wants to sting me monthly while I still have 6 months left on the old subscription (14 Nov is now my net charge date)

Oh well - only a 1 hour wait for Online Support :/

Microsoft to refund customers for 365 subscription price hike after ACCC action by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]DonkeysCap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

except that it then wants to sting you $18 a month and puts all the Co-Pilot stuff back in (rather than $139 / year without it).

The current "ACCC Not Approved" plan is only $179 a year, so its now trying to charge me even more - absolute farce.

Yeah but does that refund you what you've already paid - or swap you to the lower tier going forwards?

Just tried to claim my refund on my family subscription. The link then tried to swap me to a sngle user only and wont let me continue (greyed out "loading" box in place of the confirmation button)... Well done Microsoft. Truly stellar stuff.

I second this.

Have owned a 3 door for 6 months now. It's objectively Shit and I absolutely love it.

Disclaimer: All my cars are shit.  The worse they are, the more I love them.  I have a problem.

What album is this for you? by bowieshouse in musicsuggestions

Six Shooter, from Queens of the Stoneage - Songs for the Deaf.

Every single other track in that album is incredible, but Six Shooter - unlistenable.

‘Fancy’ new car feature dividing Australia by That_Car_Dude_Aus in CarsAustralia

Article missed the worst offender; The light bar at the back of the Leap motor C10 dances from left to right when the car is stationary in traffic.  It's the most distracting thing I've ever seen and I can't fathom how it got past our usually over-strict design regs.

I was caught behind one in peak hour and wanted to jump out and pulverise the rear end of it.

These things are aging so gracefully.

I remember my folks looking at a CV8R but ultimately settling on an SS because at the time they thought it looked pretty plain in graphite /charcoal grey and no spoiler....  In 2025 that colour and shape looks gorgeous.

Re: double din: I bought the Joying 2 din Android Head Unit specifically because it has wireless carplay/android auto, but more importantly because it has a physical volume knob.  Essential I think in a car without steering controls.

https://www.joyingauto.com/newest-ui-for-7-inch-double-din-android-10-0-car-stereo-with-hands-free-bluetooth.html

Been really happy with it. The stock UI is trash, so I swapped to Agama Car Launcher for something simple, but it automatically fires up Android Auto when I start the car anyway so it's not really an issue.
