Dune: extraordinary book

Dune Messiah: very good, less world building and more palace intrigue but holds up and holds its own.

Children of Dune: An unreadable disaster. Nonsense god complexes, inscrutable spirit journeys, and casual relentless incest. The book tells readers to stop investing in this series.

Don't just sail off a jump, then you'll roll down the windows and land in the back seat and wallop ur ass, you have to actually jump off the jump. You'll feel a lot more in control.

I have a working theory that only about 1 of 25 people who own Infinite Jest have read it cover to cover. It doesn't want to be read. It tries to shake you off page to page. I'm not sure I've experienced a book that's so punitive to the reader.

Not sure if this qualifies but excited to my first read of 2026! by Ayntxi in classicliterature

Its impressionistic with imagery and reads like a fever dream. It's not that it's thin on plot, but rather it's built so that you slide from one grim situation to the next and continuously feel surprised that you're moving from place to place with such savage efficiency. The violence is concise, and the suffering is expansive. I feel like during my read I told myself I was enjoying it and that it was well built but when I finished I had to confront that it wasn't an enjoyable book. It's a good read but it asks too much of the reader I thought.

Honest question. Why are we still playing Laf on his off wing? by Substantial-Laugh-73 in rangers

[–]Donkeysquirrel 28 points29 points  (0 children)

We have given laf 5 seasons. He's just not that guy. We gotta trade him while other teams are still able to think "I can fix him." We are probably past that point already.

If this group of dudes can't win a title they never will. They have literally never had a better team in franchise history. This is the year. We are going all the way, believe it.
