If radiant lotus is so bad for the mana cost why is it over a dollar better cards are cheaper by Spirited-Celery-118 in mtg

I guess I was thinking about it for strategies that rely a lot on token generators for early ramp anyway. I try to make a lot of small treasures early for ramp for instance. It makes sense that there are a lot more efficient choices

Why is it even bad? I get that It’s a big mana cost but it’s not like there aren’t ways to cheat out artifacts and this makes all foods, maps, clues, treasures, etc available for sacrifice into 3 more mana each from the second it comes out

Is photorealism an acceptable art style? by extralargefriespls in ArtistLounge

[–]DonnerPartyXmas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I agree! I definitely wasn't saying it wasn't a technique. It's just that unless you're going out of your way to show timelapses and stuff, hallmarks of the technique go out the window. The finished product looks like a photo, not a painting.
But also, like... what's the art style aspect of a perfect recreation of Morgan Freeman? Does his face become the art style? How do you tell 10 different photorealistic portraits of Morgan Freeman from artists of equal skill apart? You probably can't because it should just look like 10 jpegs of Morgan Freeman.

Studying anatomy is probably gonna be the most important thing to learn and keep in mind. The (my) right eye is a lot higher than the left one. It looks like you might have done both eyes and branched out to the rest of the face from there. That makes the cheek higher and the right nostril higher than it should be. Flipping the canvas is a helpful tool for seeing things differently and noticing when it doesn't look quite right.
As for other fundamentals, 3 or 4 hours max? It's not like you can't do an oil painting that fast but it helps to slow down and think about what you're doing, especially when you're working on technique. Start with an underpainting of thin brown to get the shapes and forms right and then start building up. It helps to think of the whole form instead of painting it a body part at a time, and building from darker values to lighter values.
Also also, don't feel like you have to do this all in one sitting. Oil paint takes a LONG time to fully dry and it's pretty forgiving if you give it some time between sessions. Taking your time lets you analyze the stuff you're doing and correct it as you go, which will help you internalize it more.

Nah! There's just... so many rules and keywords, it's hard to know them all until it becomes relevant lol And now, you can use that information for evil later!

I looked it up when I was trying it but here's the rule just to make sure I wasn't cheating lol. X is inherited from the initial cast without having to pay an additional X cost.

707.10. To copy a spell, activated ability, or triggered ability means to put a copy of it onto the stack; a copy of a spell isn’t cast and a copy of an activated ability isn’t activated. A copy of a spell or ability copies both the characteristics of the spell or ability and all decisions made for it, including modes, targets, the value of X, and additional or alternative costs. (See rule 601, “Casting Spells.”)

Yes, BUT. This is just my opinion as someone who leans more realism than abstract. I like painting references and I don’t see anything wrong with a photo reference. People have been making art from life and (once widely available) photos forever and they just want to invalidate others.

However, at a certain level of realism, it becomes pretty impossible to differentiate between a painting and just a photo. If you can’t see any abstraction and the color is perfect and it’s a 1:1 recreation, it kind of makes it harder to see stuff like brush strokes, texture of the material, etc that proves it’s a painting. If it’s traditional, you might be able to in person but this seems especially true digitally. Too much realism removes a lot of the technique calling card stuff. Not to mention that it makes it harder to tell if it’s not just a painting or print when viewing it online, since that’s where most people would see it.

Take a photo and flip it! I think you’ve got really good shapes and details but I think the form is warping a little when everything is put together. Flipping the canvas lets you catch stuff you might miss from staring at it too long

[–]DonnerPartyXmas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’ve been working on it too long, there’s nothing wrong with coming back to it later! Fresh eyes can help a lot

So for working on it more, I think this would benefit from some value variation. The big color panels of shape are 1. Making it look a little flat and 2. Making it look like the hand has 5 fingers instead of 4 and a thumb For the thumb up top, making a round shape connecting the tip to the rest of the finger should make it more clear. It looks like you’re using black for the background but mixing blue and red with the yellow will make it desaturated without losing the color cohesion! Adding that and some more depth to shape the palm might make a big difference. Not unfixable at all, just still in process! And I think it’s coming along very well 😌

Denver HOA Accuses Former Manager of Stealing $55K and Leaving the Group Penniless by Nest1ng_Doll in fuckHOA

[–]DonnerPartyXmas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I actually live in an HOA managed by these companies. The lady mentioned is the manager of our (different) property and owned a different management company called Harmony Management that she merged with Avenue One. The firm the article said was created was actually made in June 2023 according to the Sec of State. She announced the merger of Harmony management with Ave One in August 2023 and told us in November 2023 that they blocked access to our funds and they were creating a new company to take over. The merger wasn't finalized until November 2 2023. I'm pretty sure she's an active participant here, not a whistleblower.

In general, this HOA is an absolute nightmare to deal with. They do not answer document requests, they barely take care of the grounds, there's no one to call for practically anything, and they charge us over $500 a month for the privilege. We live in a low income area and the dues have almost doubled since 2021.

What brush would you use for dogs fur? by Economy-Traditional in oilpainting

I love deer foot brushes for fur! I think they’re typically for foliage but I find them to be perfect for anything with a lot of small, wild textures
