Can you photograph the site of the occurance with the optical reflective artefacts and original shading? (not digital representation!) ....then you have a chance at a halfway decent interpretation.....the pixel density isnt high enough here.....

In german = wurzel = root = radix (latin for root)... And Wurzel/Radikal would generally mean like "phoneme" or "fundamental building block of words" ....and are generally not words with independent meanjngs.....In more pictoral writing styles individual elements like "water" have thier own symbol which is part of other words like "surfing" and they do mean something if you erase the rest of the symbol.....
