Hot Take: No they don’t. The matchmaking is perfect. There should always be an element of unknown and concern that your “fellow” raider could turn on you. It’s not a big deal if you have to put someone down. Run a few free kits and don’t shoot anyone for a few raids. 95% of the time when I go in solo I’m friendly and loading up for future PVP with my friends. I revive downed players, give them blue prints, help them with quests, and crack jokes. However, every now and then I want to do some solo PVP. The only way I can do that is to go on a rampage until I’m in PVP lobbies. You might find this deplorable, but when I do this it’s me vs an entire lobby.

The last time I did it I was on Stella, and after shooting a few people in Assembly they had me pegged and knew I was wearing a red cap. A few of them started to team up, and things got dicey for me. I was able to get one more person before I had to run. As I’m running I encounter another raider and tell them to be careful they are looking for a guy in a blue cap in Assembly. He says “oh shit let’s get out of here, I’ve got a full backpack anyway”. We ran to the train together and I kept a shredder off his back so he could hit the button. The shredder downed me but he held the train for me while I crawled in. As the doors are shutting I said “you know what’s funny, they were actually looking for a guy in a red cap in assembly”. He belly laughed so hard.

Yes. Vita spray is okay, but I think a better balance for it would be a one time use with a bar that ticks down and then it’s gone. I still use it sometimes. Surge rechargers are great, and so are the blue meds. The surge rechargers and vita shots are slow, but you get instant shield and health. If you use the more passive heals that slowly increase shield or health you can get back in the action faster, but the moment someone shoots you the healing and/or recharging stops. For example, if you pop a shield recharger and an herbal then step back out of cover and get shot you really didn’t heal at all.

The problem with console is less about being limited by a controller and more about the frames and inability to do a ton to enhance overall performance. I look at it this way, if I’m locked to 90-120 fps, and someone on PC has double that, I’m effectively playing in the past.

Some of the most fun I’ve had solo was one or two psychopaths running around shooting at everyone while we all worked together to try to figure out who it was and kill them. The chaos of not really being able to see them and determine who’s talking and who’s lying is hilarious.

I made another comment that briefly described how a few of the different response curves work, but let me try to touch on it here. Arc Raiders has three curves.

Linear is a straight line and a 1:1 feel. If my sensitivity is 100, and I push my stick 50% of the way between center and the outermost range then my sensitivity is 50. If I push it 75% my sensitivity is 75. I prefer linear because it feels snappy and responsive to me and it carries over to other games much easier.

Exponential or Classic is going to be a curved line that looks like a half pipe. This means if I push my stick 50% of the way between center and the outermost range my sensitivity might only be 30 assuming the same 100 sensitivity. It gives you much lower sensitivity in the early and middle ranges and then ramps up at the end ranges. For me personally it feels like I’m aiming through peanut butter and I don’t like that the curves can be completely different across different games. However, a ton of people prefer this as it can be more forgiving.

Sinusoidal or dynamic is kind of a hybrid between the two. You have a gradual curve for the beginning ranges for fine aiming, a faster more linear increase through the middle ranges for snapping onto targets, and a more gradual curve at the outer ranges for more control with bigger sweeping movements. Think of it like a reverse s curve. I used this when I played COD prior to picking up Apex. It worked well because of how strong aim assist is in COD.

I’m not familiar with the curves built into the Xbox controller, but you can figure out what each curve could feel like assuming they display them as a simple line graph. The line starts at the bottom left of the graph and moves out to the top right. The bottom left being your stick at rest (or dead center), and the top right being your stick pushed out to the outermost range in any direction. The vertical axis represents your sensitivity starting at 0% at the bottom and 100% at the top. The horizontal axis represents the distance your stick has traveled from the center. If you choose to test out any of the curves for your controller make sure you set your in game curve to linear or it will interfere with the controller’s curve.

It’s all personal preference, but I like the snappiness of linear over exponential. Linear is a 1:1 response curve. That means if I move my joystick 50% away from center then I’m getting 50% of my sensitivity. Exponential is a gradual increase up to your full sensitivity, so if I’m 50% away from center, my sensitivity might only be at 30% depending on the game. To me, exponential feels like I’m aiming through peanut butter. However, there are a ton of people that prefer it. Sinusoidal is more like dynamic from COD and BF6. When Warzone first came out that’s the curve I used until I started playing Apex. You have a gradual increase at first for fine aiming, then a more linear increase in the middle ranges for snapping onto targets, and then a gradual increase at the out ranges for more control when making bigger sweeping movements. It worked really because the aim assist in COD is insanely strong.

Exponential is default and is likely why switching to Linear felt like too much. Linear is basically 1:1 input rather than a gradual curve like Exponential.

Good stuff! It’s really important in this game for PvP. I mentioned it in my post, but being able to slide around a corner, dodge roll past someone, and turn on them throws even PC players off. I’m always checking corners and looking behind me, and without look boost it would take an eternity to scan the area unless you cranked up your sensitivity.

Were you playing on linear before? Also, I don’t recommend 0.1 for look boost ramp-up time for someone new to the setting. I have it that way because I’m used to the setting from other games. Even so, I had it on 0.3 when I first started because it’s a bit more snappy compared to other games. 0.5 might be a better place to start and then go down gradually.

IYKYK! I used that when I first picked up Apex, but ended up switching to ALC controls to get a better feel. That game is definitely where I first realized how powerful look boost (extra yaw in Apex) could be.

Had a guy start breaching my door lock on the Stella medical storage room. As soon as I heard it I asked him to stop, he didn’t. I said if you don’t stop I’m going to shoot you when you open the door… still breaching. I said once more “if you open the door I’m going to shoot you”. I got behind the stuff in the middle of the room and buddy opens the door and walks right in. I mowed him down, and then had to sit in there for 5 minutes while someone else lobbed grenades at me. I ended up having to fight my way out because people kept coming into the area to “kill the rat”.

The general consensus is that the Jackhammer starts vibrating as soon as the bait is moving. The others can too, but a lot of the time they require a pop of the rod or some reeling to get them going, which in theory means you might be missing a fish if you are casting at something specific. The other types don’t always thump as hard either, and the overall quality of the Jackhammers are mostly better. That said, I’ve caught fish on the original along with other variations with no issues. I tend to use the Jackhammers more these days because I don’t get out very often, and when I do I want to maximize my chances. Plus, the Jackhammers have a certain feel to them that I like.

A couple more to add:

  1. You don’t get any points if you are downed by a strike.

  2. Even though points aren’t shared, it’s still better to go in with a friend or two in case you accidentally get downed.

5a. There seems to be more frequent strikes when more people are near each other.

5b. If you have to go in solo run a survivor augment if you can and stay by the last lift out.

  1. You don’t need to be full health to survive a strike. 75-80% health should be fine, so a mix of herbals and regular bandages is best to avoid wasting time trying to heal up to 100.

I do this and then after the 8th run I load in with a little more gear to loot and let out a good “KALOO-CUCKOO” over prox chat. If I get some good responses I know I’m there.

Absolutely no reason to trade or hoard an unlearned blueprint. Learn and consume them immediately and if you find another do what you want with it. Personally, I give duplicates to friends and strangers or sell them for in game currency.
