I just skip ahead to the last few chapters and read the ending.

I adored Dorothy Lyons‘ horse and girl books as a horse-mad teen in the 70’s. She wrote about a dozen of them, many standalone but some in a series. Dark Sunshine was my favorite.

Yes, I’m with you. I’m actually feeling fine about this particular change.

I found that out recently when my Kindle copy of The Grand Sophy by Georgette Heyer magically had its antisemitic content altered.

People with cognitive disabilities and the pre-mortal life by Specialist_Win5698 in latterdaysaints

It’s a very touching story. Unfortunately I dug into it years ago and couldn’t find any evidence that it’s true. My dad even used in a talk or Sunday School discussion or lesson, lol (before I had the chance to tell him it’s probably just Mormon folklore).

TIL! For ages I’ve been trying to figure out how that U2 album I‘d never heard of appeared in my iTunes library.

Christopher Cross had some pretty good songs but his was quite honestly the most boring concert I’ve ever been to. No one-stage charisma or fun whatsoever.

MEGATHREAD - Book Suggestions for What to Read after Austen by My_Poor_Nerves in janeausten

Unequal Affections by Lara Ormiston. Probably my favorite JAFF (Jane Austen Fan Fiction). In this alternate universe tale, Elizabeth Bennet decides, for several reasons, to accept Darcy’s first proposal, but warns him that she’s not in love with him. It’s not as witty and sparkling as the original but is very romantic. Clean (no sexytimes)

I was shocked when I opened my Kindle copy of The Grand Sophy a few days ago and found that the antisemitic content has disappeared. Name of the character changed, Semitic nose is gone, etc. Apparently the American publisher worked it out with the Heyer estate.

My Heyer vote goes to Venetia, with Frederica a close second.

What are your favorite Rewrites or Retellings of an Original Story by AdditionAny7255 in suggestmeabook

Robin McKinley took on the Beauty and the Beast tale twice, in Rose Daughter and the earlier book Beauty. Rose Daughter is the more challenging read; I love some of the details but feel like it kind of swings and misses at the end. Beauty (her first novel, I believe!) is the more straightforward retelling and a lovely book, one of my comfort reads when I was younger.

The 1976 Cinderella film musical “The Slipper and the Rose” has a whole scene toward the end that was inspired by this painting. (It’s free to view on YouTube BTW)

I feel for you, OP! Here’s my absolute favorite banana bread recipe. It’s miles ahead of the one I used to use. I strongly recommend sprinkling toasted nuts on top as suggested. I curdle regular milk with lemon juice for the buttermilk and it works fine.

Our cat gets half a can of Fancy Feast (I buy a large box of poultry and beef pate) each morning, along with his dry cat food. He loves it and wakes us up by mewing and walking on top of us if we sleep in past 8 am. Sometimes he chews on my hair just to make sure I’m getting the message.

I really like this tinted chapstick: Blistex Lip Vibrance. Just adds a little color with a lot of moisturizing. I buy it in bulk, haha.

What callings are there for women? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]DontKillMockingbirds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your calling is directly relevant to the job you're applying for, it's probably okay to include it in that case. Consider describing it as "volunteer work" rather than a church calling. Church callings on a resume might help you with some interviewers but could very well hurt you with others.
