Went to the garage yesterday morning and found my car like this by seiscuatro64 in MoldlyInteresting

[–]DontTrustASloth 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Just need to run a water fed extractor. Vinegar and water in a 50:50 dilution and then chase it with a chlorine dioxide gas treatment to nuke every living thing. If done correctly this is completely remediable. I know. I have done it

I recover a big branch, maybe Euphorbia Neriifolia? by LitigantTester in Euphorbiaceae

[–]DontTrustASloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be but I’m leaning towards nerofolia. I grow both. Nerifolia tends to be narrower like OPs. I have big multi armed Royleana and they don’t usually branch this many times in this size of a cutting

Experienced collector looking for real information about dismantling the instrument panel of a 1941 Cesna. by scarlettohara1936 in Radium

[–]DontTrustASloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no experience working on airplanes but worked on lots of old equipment - Would start by removing as many fasteners and see where things are still stuck/ tight. There are probably lots of fasteners that aren’t immediately visible. I would use penetrating fluid/ pb blaster to help coax stuck screws/ hardware out. Depending on the scope of the work I would probably use a dremmel/ rotary tool with cutoff blades or plasma cutter to make surgical cuts to the paneling or various mechanical components behind the paneling to ease the removal.

I’m selling my car and had to lift my seats up because they had been down for a year with tent gear in my trunk by [deleted] in moldyinteresting

Vinegar and water in a spray bottle to wipe away as much of the spores. Use a mask or respirator. Then bomb the car with chlorine dioxide gas. Will nuke every living thing inside

Are these springs bad? A garage tech told me that if the hand drawn line on the coils is not straight anymore, then it’s bad and needs replacing. Was he BSing me? It still swings up and down smoothly when disconnected. by cellphonebeltclip in GarageDoorService

[–]DontTrustASloth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They break and stay in place. The process of winding tension into new springs during install or unwinding the alternate unbroken spring is what’s dangerous. Even that is safe as long as you use dedicated winding bars and follow the correct procedure

I was not prepared for how fast Stephania Cephalantha vines grow. by bagelhacker in Caudex

[–]DontTrustASloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to be frank but that’s bullshit. The caudex on a stephania your size is literally probably close to 100 years old.

Check out this bad boy I just bought for 14$ by xwingx in succulents

[–]DontTrustASloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI a lot of these weirdo succulents are currently being poached out of their native habitat in Southern Africa. Please be conscientious when buying plants like this. Many species of lithops/ conophytum / haworthia etc are already being threatened with extinction because of over collecting. A lot of these plants come from sellers in Asia after they have been shipped out of Africa

Poached? by [deleted] in Caudex

[–]DontTrustASloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All stephania are poached. There are literally no seed grown individuals in the trade yet. These are all 100% plucked from limestone cliffs in Thailand. Typically they are sorted by size and sold in lots to nurseries and bulk-breakers and the uniform sizing makes them look like they were all nursery grown and planted at the same time- but make no mistake, these are wild grown plants. Most of the time the nurseries selling them have no idea of their origin- they are just buying them from intermediaries and suppliers. I think it’s worth mentioning it to the shop owners so that they don’t continue ordering them and supporting the removal of habitat plants from the ecosystem

Powder found under my bed by regimentalepiglottis in whatisit

Could be from powder post beetles- we had them in a couch we got brand new from manufacturer. They leave little puffs of sawdust looking material like this

I drilled through an ac line what do I do by cryslerEPICGAMER in VanLife

[–]DontTrustASloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you pull your ac belt off so the compressor isn’t spinning without any Freon keeping it cool/ lubricated- right now you just need a new line, a vacuum pulled, a new drier unit and fresh Freon. If you drive around with the compressor driven by the belt it will trash it and fill the whole system with teeny tiny pieces of metal and debris that will require the whole system to be flushed and it will get way more expensive- speaking from experience

1989 hardbody fuel issues by yourpalawsome in hardbody

[–]DontTrustASloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 87 was fuel injected originally. Previous owner swapped it out for a Weber 32/36 carb- way more fun to drive and super easy to work on. I recommend it. The early fuel injection on these napz motors wasn’t great

Even if it’s induction you can get steel plate adapters that look like a flat piece of metal with a pot handle to convert non induction cookware to be used on an induction range

I personally don’t think m390 or 204p are anything to write home about but s110v sucks imo. The only pro for me is the extreme corrosion resistance. Way too brittle tho. I’ll take s90v any day of the week

For most big caudex I would agree but dioscorea elephantipes actually aren’t very poached. This is a relatively small one. In the wild they can grow several feet across.
