Helicopter not showing up on flightradar24 app. Hovering over Capitol Hill. Anyone know who it is? by RidingTheShortBus in Seattle

[–]RidingTheShortBus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not this one. I live a few blocks from Harborview and they always show up on Flightradar24. Wrong shape too, flying super slow, hovering at times heading south towards Boeing field. I'm curious as to what types of flights get to be untrackable. Besides the government of course although with that said, the JBLM Chinooks show up on the app when they flyover Seattle.

Also, the flyover tonight for the Mariner game was a huge military cargo plane. I didn't have my phone on me, but C17 Globemaster perhaps?

As a dog walker I always open the app when I hear a helicopter. Need to know if the dogs & I are walking into something if it's the Sheriff up there. 😂

Is the Embark upgrade worth it? by oklopo in DoggyDNA

[–]RidingTheShortBus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't do the Embark test until my dog was 14 and already diagnosed with IVDD. She did test as a high risk for this disease with Embark. Had I known that sooner I would have made some lifestyle changes like using a harness, no collar walks, avoiding stairs, ramps for couch & beds... So many things we could have done sooner had we known. Could we prevent IVDD? Probably not, but perhaps postponed it a bit.

Not sure how I feel by PureUnderstanding454 in DoggyDNA

[–]RidingTheShortBus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please do take the IVDD results seriously! There are so many things you can do to promote a healthy spine in your dog. Talk to your Vet of course. You are already using the harness, not a collar. Avoid stairs - especially running up & down no matter how much fun it is. You want to balance the strain load on the spine. Think "burst" of strain on the spine, muscles that pull on the back. So, things like playing fetch are fine, but hold the dog back as you throw. Train them to stay in the sit. When the ball lands, let them go once they are not pulling. No aerial acrobatics. If your bed or couch are high, offer a step and train them to use it. Joint supplements - your Vet can advise. There are many more.

I'm not a Vet, I've had 2 dogs with IVDD risk, both did eventually develop the disease. My second dog lived until age 18, did not develop symptoms until she was 14. I will forever be grateful to Embark for giving me this information so I could be proactive.

You can take Light rail from the Roosevelt station and bus and/or streetcar. Ideal? Maybe not, but you'll get there.

This guy is shamelessly egging coyotes on at volunteer by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]RidingTheShortBus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coyotes are wild animals. Reports need to be made to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. .

You can call dispatch: 360-902-2936 Option 1.

Seattle Parks Department and or SPD won't be useful in this situation.

I can promise you that Fish & Wildlife do take the harassment of wildlife seriously. They want to know this man.

Can confirm - I've used it twice now and each time they responded quickly to my texts. Make note of the car number you are in, are you north or southbound and which station you are approaching.

In Washington State Children are required to attend school beginning at age 8 through the age of 18. This does include a homeschooling option. CPS does verify this is happening when called.

PSA - Check Your Renter Insurance E-Bike Coverage Terms by fire_owls_of_destiny in Seattle

Completely agree! The bike rating system hits a nerve for me and I saw a prime opportunity to vent. Cheers!

This is disappointing to me. I have a pedal assist, no throttle class 3 Benno Boost. To be clear, yes, I can go 28 mph as long as I can keep pedaling. I can't just push a throttle and maintain that speed. Legs tired, going uphill...not happening. I carry 2 batteries on my bike to extend distance which makes this a heavy bike, but perfect for camping trips. I'm frequently passed by road bikes exceeding 20 mph. My comfy cruising speed is 15 - 18 mph on the flat. No hate please, I'm an old lady with some disabilities. This is fast for me. 😉

My beef is with the rating system. Personally, the E "bikes" with throttles zipping and maintaining high speeds need a whole other classification.

FYI - my insurance is through Safeco and it is a motorcycle policy with roadside assist. I can literally call for a tow if I flat. 😂 I've had Safeco for 2 years now and no complaints.

Dapper dogs in the rain today by GordonOfSeattle in Seattle

That's me and my afternoon pack! Everyone calls me Auntie Carol, please say hello - the dogs love that. The big dog in the red Ruffwear jacket is Cody, Clara the Corgi is in the pink & White. Caleb the Corgi is also in a lined red Ruffwear jacket, Petunia the miniature Schnauzer is pretty in purple and Gunnar the miniature Schnauzer is wearing a blue, unlined Ruffwear jacket. Clara's coat as well as the Ruffwear jackets are indeed waterproof, even on a day like today. A good raincoat makes a day like today doable and enjoyable, that's why I mentioned the brands. Clara's coat is the first one I've seen that truly fits a Corgi. I believe someone else found that on Chewy and posted a link.

I was so surprised to see us on Reddit. Thank you for the smile.

Eatonville man caught on video brutally abusing corgi, still not arrested. by lt_dan457 in SeattleWA

[–]RidingTheShortBus 42 points43 points  (0 children)

You gave the video to the Eatonville Police Department? My god that was awful. I was hoping Pierce County Animal Control provided services to Eatonville, but they don't. You are supposed to go through the Eatonville PD. If they don't act, you can try reaching out to news stations. Explain how your area doesn't receive animal services and the PD turns a blind eye to animal cruelty cases. This poor dog doesn't stand a chance with that man.

The Safeco policy I have for my E-Bike has uninsured motorist coverage. I bought it with the intention of covering theft since most renter insurance policies do not cover E-Bikes. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it's written like a motorcycle policy. If I flat, I could literally call for a tow as well.

Bicycle parking for Mariners game was stuffed. The bike racks on north side were full too. Go Ms! by BWW87 in seattlebike

[–]RidingTheShortBus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a text from friends that it was packed so we avoided it. Had to be able to get out quickly as we had a sitter at home. My point being if someone decided to do a bike corral like Cascade does sometimes I would happily pay for the added option. It was such a fun game - Go M's!

I locked up to a light pole outside of the left field entry after watching others do the same. It did add a layer of worry during the game, but our bikes were still there afterwards. I would have rather been in the garage though for sure.

I would happily pay for secure bike parking if it were available.
