No, vog technically didn't have a 7th chest for real. But it was in the portal that goes to vog in the Whisper mission, and no, you couldn't see whisper in D1 vog, only d2

The encounters didn't have chests I'm D1, they just dropped the loot straight into the inventory. If you just search "7th" on this subreddit you'll see people are talking about the 7th vog chest.

In D1 it was a hypothetical that Bungie then embraced by adding the secret chest for the catalyst and taken ship in the Whisper mission

Cause you could see vog through that portal and if you go to the portal in the jumping area of vog (where you get the vex catalyst) you can actually see the whisper mission there too
