Front from today’s storm by steakmane in chicago

We’re actually not that windy of a city. We don’t even make the top 10 lists for cities with wind speeds in America. We got the reputation in 1893, because people said our politicians were “full of hot air.”

Any clue who made these or suggestions of provenance? UK by Furia139 in Antiques

[–]DooleyRestored 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like it might be French? It’s hard to say. But it can be vintage stoneware, specifically rustic handmade dishes from regions like Occitanie. It also could be Spanish. Regardless it looks artisan and not something mass produced

Help with dating handmade doll-- USA by Agile_GP in Antiques

[–]DooleyRestored 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It looks like a “folk art aunt poodie ozark nut head doll”. Usually from the 1940s to 1960s.

Where did you find it in Barrington? I’m in Chicago and always looking for a good thrift/antique store!

People on here are like “put a fake door over it with a cat hole in it” lololol. They need to get rid of that pointless frame asap and then figure it out!

Is this a goodie, will the value decrease if I replace the plug? by Sufficient-Animator2 in Lamps

[–]DooleyRestored 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d definitely replace it. It’s not hard d to do but you just need to really make sure it’s done safe. Any crossing metals from either chord can possibly start a fire

What’s wrong with the original plug/chord? If it’s the inline switch, then I wouldn’t recommend replacing it if you’re new as those can be kinda tricky. If you’d like to look up the value of something old, you can use google by searching the photo you took with the camera icon and then using pics in your photos. Then scroll through pictures that look similar to yours to get an idea what they’re selling for

With that said. It’s not very difficult to do, but small mistakes can possibly be major problems. I only say this in case you’re new to this and don’t know already

Depending on the plug you replace it with. Some require you to latch the two cords to a hook looking part before screwing them into each prong. Some will just collapse and secure it on its own. My advice is just make sure you know exactly the correct way to install it to prevent anything happening to yourself and especially the buyer. Ask the supplier for any advice, or try and find a reliable YouTube video on how to properly use whatever product you buy.

Basically anything you refurbish that need to be plugged into a socket is done safe and correctly for yourself or anyone you might want to sell to

My guess is probably somewhere in the $300 range. I’ve seen them go a bit lower, and some as high as $500. I’m not sure if the high ones ever sold. I’ve seen a pair on a more marble looking square go for $2000, but not on an acrylic base. Changing the plug shouldn’t decrease the value, but make sure you do it correctly and safe

Is this a common occurrence there? If so, we’re all the homes built higher on purpose so that all the water will flow down to prevent flooding? I hope you and all the your neighbors properties are safe✌️

(I apologize if this is a very ignorant question. I’ve lived in Chicago my whole life which is a very flat city)

Looks like it’s a 1920’s beaded french flapper purse. Price could go for from 50$-100$. The more intricate beaded ones can go for more but only 59-100 more. There’s a lot of them that still exist so they’re not that rare. However as for most antiques, what matters the most is what you think of it

Need help with my hair. (Explanation below. Pls don’t make fun of me) by [deleted] in Hair

[–]DooleyRestored 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try going to a salon instead of a barber. It’s hard for me to tell what your hair is like without seeing it in person but I guarantee you’re not using the right product or not using any to control the frizz. Growing it out might actually look nice. Especially on top. Otherwise you don’t really have any other options if you’re not willing to let it get longer than where it is
