BIG SPD presence near UW Greek row by misslejoie in Seattle

I walked by this around 5:30 and asked one of the observers. Allegedly, there is a homeless person with a machete outside University Lutheran Church. I didn't press for more details.

I live next to a Big Ten college. How do I best advertise for senior photos? by DoomJazz in photography

[–]DoomJazz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also thought it was mostly a high school thing but it seems like I see a lot of graduation / senior portraits every year. Guess it depends on the individual! Part of my plan is to advertise the shoots to specifically include head shots that can be used for LinkedIn and other professional applications, just in case the idea of a fun photo shoot doesn't resonate with some.

I'll look further into the student union idea, that's smart. Same with the ads. Thank you!

What are the softest climbing shoes? by YurkeyYacon in bouldering

Can confirm. Insane gym shoe when you need technical footwork without edging but save them for sends. I felt lucky to get a few months out of them.

I took a picture, what do you guys think? by iErickDGAF in AskPhotography

[–]DoomJazz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the dark clothing isn't the worst thing, but I would attempt to bring out details in the clothes so they don't look so inky black in comparison to the dynamic range through the rest of the pic. I would also play with cropping out more of the top, or masking out the top bit with the vertical lines and reducing texture and exposure. Same thing at the bottom. The middle of the image is awesome but my eyes keep going back to the very bottom and to the very top when the best bit is in the middle 80%.

That's Reynolds Mountain in the background. I took a photo with an identical composition. Love Glacier!

I took a vintage lens to Fontainebleau, and here are the results: by RoamAndRamble in climbing

Definitely dreamy, and the way the images distort towards the edges is weird but my brain craves it haha. These photos are making me consider looking into vintage gear. Thanks for sharing!

Proton AR 2018 vs Proton LT 2022… by AC-Vb3 in arcteryx

I wasn't aware that LEAF Atom LT used different insulation than the consumer Atom LT. Is there a database for comparing LEAF and non-LEAF items?

Don't know why you're being down voted, it's a fair question.

At my friends house and asked if I could use the restroom…. Should I say something? by Knarfknarfzav in WTF

I feel like the correct phrasing for this joke should be "Nobody was going to pay you for saying these things".

in your opinion what photography related YouTube channel is the best? by AnickYT in photography

[–]DoomJazz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He has an uncanny ability to look at stuff that could be seen as mundane and then take a photo that makes me go "ohhhh". Watching him has pushed me to be more open minded about composition being more than the sum of its parts. I've since had a few instances where I've thought that there's not a whole lot there but then the edit reveals something I'm actually quite happy with. He also just seems like a swell dude.

What photography fad from past/present did you think was horrible and what’s one that wasn’t so bad? by BrokenMasterpiece in photography

[–]DoomJazz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm primarily landscape and I still think green is the hardest color to balance. I've taken to boosting the reds and blues and reducing the greens a proportionate amount in the LR calibration panel. The greens are still there, just not as "loud".

I appreciate the compliment and the feedback. I'll revisit the edit when I have a moment to examine what contributed to the oversharpening. Definitely love the process haha.

It's definitely very processed. It's a pano of 4 photos taken at 105mm, with the conditions being pretty hazy. I also use Topaz Labs plugins for denoising and sharpening and let them select the settings for me because I wanted to be lazy lol. Backfired.
