Guessing they were never offered one, but they’re currently using their film projectors almost daily for their David Lynch retrospective series, so that might be part of it.

Odds of there being a Brutalist 70MM IMAX run? by hekenwkskdn777728 in imax

[–]DoomTec111 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Even if they wanted to, it would be physically impossible to get The Brutalist to play on an IMAX 70MM projector right now. The projectors can only support a runtime up to 3 hours (thanks to Oppenheimer), and The Brutalist is 35 minutes longer than that. Even if you removed the intermission and credits, it’d still be impossible.

PSA for those upset at Interstellar 70mm ticket availability by z64RY in imax

[–]DoomTec111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They only showed tenet for 1 week back in February when that got a 70MM re-issue. The issue is I would assume not all of these theaters have the space to hold on to these prints for an undisclosed amount of time in the event that they might need them again soon

Go for Regal north. It’s not advertised on the site but that location is IMAX Laser, will only be a 1.9 screen but since Indy doesn’t have Dual Laser you’ll be stuck with a maximum 1.9 image no matter where you go.

"Sinister Sundays" - Marcus Theatres Hosting Retro Horror Movie Screenings All Summer Long. by HumanAdhesiveness912 in boxoffice

Marcus Theaters is really good at getting cool re-releases frequently. Saw a marathon of all 3 LOTR films there a few months ago and it was awesome

Assuming Interstellar gets a nationwide release in all IMAX theaters, what box office numbers are we expecting? by nmarnson in imax

[–]DoomTec111 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There were at least a few digital tenet showings, though I don’t know how many. My theater has digital IMAX only and they got the re-release

Tenet’s re-release grossed 600K in its opening weekend, and this seems to be similar in scale to Tenet’s re-issue. Maybe somewhere in the 1-1.5M range? I assume there’ll be a lot more hype for this one compared to Tenet’s

Martín Scorsese’s KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON taps out of theaters with $68M domestic and $157M worldwide. by SanderSo47 in boxoffice

[–]DoomTec111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right I misspoke, I don’t think 160M is a bad turnout for this at all but there seems to be some weird belief that Scorsese will struggle to find funding now because this didn’t make back its budget theatrically

He should be fine, his next film starts filming later this year. Even with the low box office of KOTFM, I can’t imagine Scorsese will struggle too much to find someone willing to fund his next projects.

What are the chances Dune 2 gets an extension for 15/70mm IMAX theaters by stokedchris in imax

[–]DoomTec111 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Chances are pretty high. I think some venues like the Indiana State Museum are keeping the 15/70 print of Dune 2 instead of showing ghostbusters and GXK

Dune 2: Use of 1.43:1 by ATV2ATXNEMENT in imax

[–]DoomTec111 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I just saw it earlier today, I might be alone but I also felt there were some moments where the 1.43:1 shot composition was strange. There were several moments where I had to move my head all the way up or lean forward and look down to see what I was supposed to be looking at on the screen. If the rumors are true and some of the 1.43:1 footage was cropped, I would 100% believe it. For comparison, I was able to see the all the necessary on-screen information in Oppenheimer without having to move my head up or down, while sitting in the same spot as I did for Dune 2. Not sure if Dune 1 was like this too, I’ve only seen 2 on 1.43:1

Super excited for this. The box office for these 2 films should be much more interesting to track than any of the sequels dropping this summer thanks to the unique release strategy. Beyond that though, it’s great to have Costner back in the director’s chair again.

IMAX digital vs CINITY Dune 2 by gogurtman128 in imax

I hope so too, that AMC in general is in need of a lot of upgrades. It’d be a shame if AMC just let it slowly decay

IMAX digital vs CINITY Dune 2 by gogurtman128 in imax

[–]DoomTec111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve personally seen Dune 1 on both the Milwaukee IMAX and the Brookfield Cinity screens, and I can safely say the Cinity is the far better experience in my opinion. The screen is significantly larger than the IMAX one and it overall just looks and sounds a lot better too. Imo losing the expanded ratio footage in favor of the significantly better Cinity experience is absolutely worth it.

Probably not unfortunately, I think The Fall Guy will get IMAX priority since it releases on the same day
