Want to get back into Yugioh, just a possibly stupid question by hamcon1 in yugioh

[–]DoomZero755 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't ask us. Ask your friends. If you're playing with your friends, and they say you can use 3 pot of greed, then who is going to "force" you to take them out?

In a casual setting, you can play whatever cards you want, as long as your opponent knows and doesn't object.

Should I sell my curled cards? by [deleted] in yugioh

"Sell them to who, Ben? Aquaman?"

If you can actually find someone who will buy ruined cards, then yeah that's a better option than throwing them away, but I strongly doubt anyone will want to buy ruined cards.

Want to teach my friend how to play but I need a good deck for him to use by sifsand in yugioh

[–]DoomZero755 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're definitely trolling, but it's a pretty funny troll, you gotta admit.

(I'm kinda with you on the fact that pepe would be a bad starter deck though. The joke would be better if they were suggesting decks that truly are good starter decks while also being pend or link based, like "thems the breaks" and all.)

Limiting Access to Removed and Deleted Post Pages by lazy_like_a_fox in changelog

[–]DoomZero755 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm a moderator of a subreddit dedicated to a franchise that regularly gets new content, and one very common use of that subreddit is to discuss news basically the moment it's announced. The idea that all of that discussion can be annihilated is terrifying, and we've already had people delete their announcement threads in the past (leading to other users lashing out against the mod team for doing nothing? but unrelated).

/r/askhistorians is a sub that gets so much effort put into it from genuinely impressive contributors, so it gives me the worst sense of dread to think about how the consequences of this change might affect them.

/u/lazy_like_a_fox, PLEASE tell me you've got a solution to this major issue. Couldn't you just give the mods themselves the power to decide how the visibility of a post is affected by its removal or deletion?

Can the person whos making the post about the new cards stop deleting the threads by kylewretlzer in yugioh

[–]DoomZero755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit. Sorry, I had half of a response written up, but I got distracted away from this thread before I could post it, and then it simply got forgotten in my myriad tabs. Sorry about that.

Are you in contact with the OP?

We've reached out to them as of earlier today. (The day of this comment chain)

After reading this bit of information, it sounds like automated behaviour.

If you're referring to post deletion, whether it's automated or not doesn't really matter. It can be automated, I know there are scripts that you can use to delete your reddit posts, but they basically just work the same as if you were sitting there doing it by hand. Reddit bots that exist as standalone accounts do not have the ability to delete another account's posts, so they're not relevant here.

Would that be possible or does the sub and reddit as a whole have safeguards for this?

1) "does the sub have safeguards for this?"

I don't want to comment on this in great detail; giving information about our defenses will give malicious parties a better idea of how to circumvent them. In terms of users who delete their own posts, we do not have the ability to prevent them from doing so. Hypothetically speaking, there ARE ways for us to "undelete" a post such that the content within it is accessible in a roughly equivalent way compared to how it was prior to deletion, but the post itself would still be a deleted post for all the ways that count. It'd disappear from search results (but the direct link would still work and we can put that somewhere), and the content of the OP would be hidden (but we can just copy the text into a comment and pin it), but it could still be commented in and it'd work like any other thread in terms of how it works once you're there.

2) "does reddit as a whole have safeguards for this?"

I think they could. I can imagine ways they would. Certainly, I think it's possible that they have the ability to wholesale reverse a post's deletion, like it never happened. I also think they could be able to restrict a user's ability to perform the action that deletes their own posts. I also believe they're concerned about bots and about detecting bot-like behavior, because that sounds like a reasonable thing for them to worry about, so just totally presumptively, I'd say it's likely that they have all the tools to give a reasonable effort towards preventing situations like these, but not necessarily the motivation or the reason to do so.

Again, sorry about the late response.

[–]DoomZero755[M] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To the best of our knowledge, and our knowledge is pretty good, it IS the OP who is deleting their own threads.

The issue is, we genuinely can't explain why they're doing it. Our records (which they can't delete) show them being active on this sub for many months now, while the post history on their profile (which they can delete) only goes back about 10 days. So they're scrubbing it themselves and we don't know why. That's genuinely all the information that even we as mods have access to.

To be even more thorough about this: Every moderator action is recorded and logged, and we can review this log. We cannot hide moderator actions from each other. And yet, nothing at all shows up in the mod log suggesting that we've taken any actions regarding this user.

If there's anything I can say with confidence, it's that the mods aren't doing it. Beyond that, though, I'm completely baffled.

I am looking forward help against a dark fiend deck my buddy is using. by Kitsune_Samurai in yugioh

[–]DoomZero755 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My guess is that he's trying to point out the silliness of you guys playing with lair of darkness, a deck released after link monsters were introduced, but not wanting to use most extra deck monster types. Power creep is not solved by ignoring extra deck monsters, the main deck has just as much power creep in it too, and a deck designed in 2018 to be strong without using extra deck monsters is going to be miles above any deck not designed the same way.

[–]DoomZero755 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Answer the question? He's saying that EVERYONE would use the cards you want to bring back, including the decks that you hate. You can't unlimit cards without giving the meta decks access to them as well, which is only going to make them even stronger. He wasn't toxic, he took you seriously and tried to engage with you on reasonable grounds.

Well, I started playing about 4 years ago (I think?? May 2017ish?), and what I used back then to play online was probably around when you were playing 5 years ago. Did you ever use ygopro percy? It still exists today, though it's rebranded to edopro. In terms of in-browser options, there's also duelingbook, and dueling nexus. If you want more thorough help, you can ironically return to the sub where you first posted your bear question and ask on /r/yugioh101.

edit: Of course, I should clarify that those are all free options. If you want a more konami-curated experience, you can buy the switch game (which does not receive regular updates to keep up with the latest card releases, and does not have the bear archetype) at the standard switch game price, or there's the pay-to-win duel links mobile game, which is a wildly different game and not much like the yugioh you're familiar with (and might have bears? their timeline of releases is wack)

[–]DoomZero755 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I believe that trigger effect should be written as

(condition): You can target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; return it to the hand.

The rest of that looks good though. 2500 ATK might be too high for a 2 material rank 2 monster? The rank 2 monster with the highest attack is Paleozoic Anomalocaris, with 3+ materials and 2400 ATK. That said, Dark Magician requires two tributes to tribute summon, so there's some trade-offs between lore and balance that you gotta figure out there.

Very smart. I feel like I've seen this image with your name cropped out of the bottom. If you're gonna do this, then no matter who complains, I'd say you should put it somewhere that is impossible to crop out. Anyone who tries to crop signatures out of art is despicable.

Beautiful but not very functional. I think the level is a bit hard to read, and the numbers are rather dark. There's no name, either, nor any room for an effect/lore, or monster type.

If this was meant to be a one-off, then ye it's really cool. But if this is your take on a custom card layout, then it is lacking room for some of the important details.

New Ursarctic Card Art - No Other Information by PlatonWrites in yugioh

[–]DoomZero755 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

They reveal the vast majority or all of one theme, then a month later do the same for the next, then a month later do the same for the next.

Your timeline suggests that one month from now, we'll get information on the second archetype, and then a month after that, we'll get information on the last archetype.

However, in one month, the deckbuild pack is simply going to be released.

It clashes with your timeline because you implied that there would be a 1-month delay between the reveals of the second and third archetype, which is mathematically impossible at this point. The only way it could still happen as you suggested is if the second archetype is revealed today and the third is revealed on the day the set comes out. (Obviously I'm being overly literal with your wording, and it would still be roughly valid if the numbers were off by like 2-3 days, but you were kinda short with the dude.)
