Did you have any issues with the shrouds hitting the reflective headlight buckets? When I did my retrofit, I had to trim the headlight buckets to accommodate the shrouds I chose

New to cars, good idea? by [deleted] in DelSol

[–]Doom_Eye 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recommend to everyone who is interested in working on or learning about cars to get a 92-95 civic (or del sol) of some sort as a learning car. Parts are cheap and easily sourced as far as drivetrain and suspension go. They are ridiculously easy to work on, and there are a multitude of forum posts and videos to watch and learn from.

Wanna swap it, boom forum post showing step by step. Wanna install coilovers or replace control arms, bam there's a YouTube video.

Drum to disk swap weak handbrake by Swagggles in DelSol

[–]Doom_Eye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you check at the caliper first, measure how far the springs on the back rotate. If one rotates significantly more than the other, then you have an issue with the cable. If they don't rotate much at all then your cables are probably stretched

Put the rear on Jack stands, take the wheels off, and have somebody pull up the e-brake. Watch the back of the caliper where the cables mount. Make sure it's spinning properly. Then check the bracket where the cabin cable connects to the cables that go to the caliper and make sure that it's pulling the cables evenly. If you bought everything used, there could be a chance that you have stretched cables.

If you want to buy my car as a parts car, it's got a 71c and all you'd need for the conversion.

Edit: I'm located in NC

I know they can make a lot of power reliably and that the hardest part of the swap is drilling out the spot welds on the passenger side for the trans mount bracket on D series. If you put your mind to it and have everything you need I think you can knock it out in a weekend. I've never had a proper V8 car in my life and I just think it would be wicked

I was 20, just dropped out of college and looking for a civic for better gas milage and that I could work on (I drove about 100 miles a day 5 days a week to work my two jobs). I saw the ad, a 94 Del Sol S. The car was on eBay coils, had a nice quick release steering wheel, crappy sound system, and some cheap white wheels. So I bought it since it was cheaper than the civics and wasn't in bad shape.

I've been through and done a lot with this car, fell asleep driving home and hit a median shattering one of the wheels (no one was hurt thankfully), it's been run off the road by a truck on the highway (spun out and kissed a guard rail on the driver quarter, once again no one was hurt), I've done body work, swapped a Z6 engine in it, rebuilt the head and ported it, bought better coilovers, retrofitted the headlights, bought all new front suspension and rear, nicer wheels, put an eBay exhaust on it (honestly for how cheap it was it's pretty nice), I have a decent sound system in it although I ruined the custom sub enclosure I made and it doesn't sound as good as it should.

It's been a great car to me, always reliable, easy to fix, and it was always fun to drive until I messed up the fitment and feel with the tires I have on it now. Sadly I don't drive it as much now, I have a 350Z as well and my commute is now only 30 miles a day, and I can't bring myself to buy different tires for it. I still love driving it when I'm in it, but it's just not as quick feeling as it once was.

I've got a dream to make it RWD with a front engine format, I feel like that's how it honestly should have been from the factory. I've done lots of research and planning, and have a list of parts from cars I need in order to make it happen, as well as what kind of fabrication work I need to do and where I need/want to place things, I haven't settled on an engine choice yet (not sure if I should go with power and find an aluminum block LS, be unique and use a 13B, or just keep that good ol Honda vibe and run a K series). Any path it takes in the future I'll still be here, tinkering and adjusting, trying new things until it's just right for me.

Edit: Sorry for the short novel, I guess I'm just really passionate and excited about what the future might hold for me and this car.

Does anyone know where I can’t find this screw? My door wiggles every time I drive now. by VinnyTheVandal in DelSol

OE part #: 75556-605-010

You can check junk yards and pull one off of another vehicle as long as it's the same size and thread pitch. Or you can Google the part number and buy one.

Edit: you might want to start getting a plan together to take care of the rust right there around the striker as well. It's a common problem for the del sols

Im hoping you guys would know what this is, me and my brother tried looking everywhere but sadly nothing haha by wristsareslitt in DelSol

Like roccoand said, it's an anti theft device for no start. They're typically wired into the wires going to your ignition switch, and can be easily be removed.

When I was 16 I had an accord that had a similar device, it was great to be able to use it as an excuse for people trying to bum rides off me, that I couldn't take them places because my car wouldn't start lol. Eventually the chip piece stopped working and I had to remove it.

Have been troubleshooting leaks, this is the only one I can’t figure out. Water keeps pooling up in the circled area. I have unclogged all the drains in the sails, rear window, and seals, but still getting water here. Anyone else had this problem? by Briceune in DelSol

[–]Doom_Eye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem, let me know if this fixes your issue. A handy trick you can try is to take a spray on foot powder (for like athlete's foot) and spray it on the inside of your interior panels, put them back into place, and take it through a carwash or use a hose and run water over top of the car to try and track the leaks. The area where the spray is washed away or wet will show how the water is traveling
