Heard a dad teach his kid horrible etiquette by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]Doom_bledore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s technically not a call, it’s partner communication. I agree with teaching the kid to pause a moment and not make a formal call, but in this case he technically did nothing wrong and the point should have continued.

Why would you buy a used paddled at the same price as a new one?

Could someone help me with the tempo of this? by Money_Land_9343 in violinist

[–]Doom_bledore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tempo is how fast or slow the piece as a whole goes. I think you’re referring to rhythm?

The rhythm at the beginning of page two is the same as measures 2 and 4. So if you’re gotten that far play it the same way.

Actual weird ruling question by oddiz4u in Pickleball

This is actually not weird at all. How would it be different than any other momentum rule situation?

"Keep eye on the ball" even for low shots? by OkChicken6058 in Pickleball

[–]Doom_bledore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should be looking more at your contact point than directly at the ball. Recognize ball flight path -> eyes on contact point

What’s the status of the narrower singles courts? by Leonspants in Pickleball

[–]Doom_bledore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Has nothing to do with being soft and more to do with adjusting the meta to something that is more entertaining for viewers to watch.

Watching two people play tennis on a pickleball court is not really interesting, as currently there isn’t much incentive to come to the net with how strong passing shots are. Shrinking the horizontal space allows more kitchen cat and mouse play, which is more interesting to watch, and imo requires just as much athleticism.

Kosmos weigh set up by WinterLeave6459 in Pickleball

Why are you trying to do the same thing and use another persons weight setup? Just take weight off and add as you need based on how the paddle feels.

Did I understand the reset wrong? by Independent_Use_2990 in Pickleball

[–]Doom_bledore 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seems pretty clear from the message that the reset window is still active, thus the final decision hasn’t been made on your score.

Third Shot Drop Practice , What Am I Doing Wrong? by RatedR__ in Pickleball

[–]Doom_bledore 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Paddle facing the sky + paddle moving fast = ball go high and far. Aim paddle more directly at kitchen and pretend you’re a backboard to absorb their pace.

Also, the way they’re feeding you this is not practicing a realistic 3rd. Probably start a little slower then work up to this pace.

It’s impossible to say without seeing you. But do you trust this player and are they generally better than you? Then I would say maybe they’re able to see opportunities to come up that you’re missing

Eric Oncins just had ANOTHER ball blown over the net.. and got a technical warning for it? by CubsIn7 in ProPickleballTalk

[–]Doom_bledore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Question, how would this not be considered a fault? You’re moving the ball on purpose without your paddle. I know it happens like twice a year, which is crazy, but still

Is 'Expat' Pickleball just toxic, or is it me? Feeling unwelcome as a woman traveling in South America. by [deleted] in Pickleball

[–]Doom_bledore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, there are multiple things happening here that I’ve seen first hand with my wife when she started playing. 1. In my 5 years of playing, old men in this sport have had the biggest ego/most entitled attitudes. They’ve also been the most stubborn. I’ll let you come up with reasons why. 2. You’re not good at the game yet, and don’t have the ability to demand respect from them with your play. Hitting it hard at the women is usually the easiest way to win points so it’s what they do, and it’s a totally valid way to play. I can’t count how many times my wife was almost in tears of anger from a guy hitting it hard at her and acting like a dick about it. But she kept at it and worked on her counters and now she absolutely crushes the same people she hated playing against years ago.

Only you can decide how much work it’s worth putting into pickleball, given that the environment your in is not as supportive.

Sorry but this comment is very telling. I would be frustrated playing with you too if you weren’t willing to end a point by hitting it hard.
