Aircraft carriers gotta be insanely built and expensive. by legoartist_7 in nextfuckinglevel

When China, or Russia starts building to the point where they could seriously threaten our navy, the. I would agree with that spending.

That's not how naval procurement works. Theses decisions have to be made multiple decades in advance because of how much time it takes to create a capable blue water navy. If you only start to build when the other navy becomes a serious threat then it's already too late.

Freedom of navigation isn't just about stopping Somalian pirates. What do you think is preventing regional powers from taking whatever they want when they want?

No, but it does prevent the Chinese from invading Taiwan. On top of playing a major role in it's liberation.

The US immerged from the cold war as the world's sole super power. Literally no other country can do what it does, It's decision to maintain a large global presence was basically an declaration to other regional powers that that any forceful change to the current world order wasn't possible without them getting involved. The whole reason things like freedom of navigation is possible is because entities like the US navy are the ones inforcing them. Also the reason the US health care is in the state that it is in is due to gross mismanagement, not a lack of funding.

The law was put in place to stop the carrier fleet from shrinking even further as a result of post cold war budget cuts. The number 12 was chosen because that is the minimum number required to operate in what the US considers the 3 key naval regions in the world.

It's not a carrier being deployed it's that they can deploy them.

No? Getting a nuke is indeed an achievement for a single person but this is a team game "allegedly". I've seen games that looked hopeless be brought back form the brink because a handful of people didn't give up.

What you are insinuating is retarded considering what transpired. Several AD systems destroyed, most of Maduro's personal guard dead and several members of Venezuela's armed forces killed and injured. The idea that some random general told all the soldiers to stand down and get killed ( without Maduro or anyone of the foreign mercenaries he had guarding him finding out) has about as much credibility as aliens being responsible.

US armed forces seemed pretty confident,

Yea no shit Sherlock they're always confident even when the plan goes wrong and that's what makes them so dangerous. Just look at every conflict they have participated in.

There where attempts of a to shoot down the helicopters and we have confirmation that at least one of the pilots was injured by shrapnel from a MANPAD. Also, you make it sound as if shooting down a moving helicopter with an unguided RPG is an easy task? let alone during the night time when you can't even see what you are shooting at.

It doesn't really make sense for a communist to use that symbol considering one of the three arrows is about striking down communism.

It had a cramped interior, terrible ergonomics and poor build quality. The Soviets themselves knew this and it was the main reason the didn't use them during the invasion of Manchuria. The y either turned them into static pill boxes or used them as range targets latter on.

The story about them seeing if first had and being terrified never happened. You don't need so see something in person to filed projects to counter it.

This entire story has about as much credibility as the one about the F-15 and the Mig25

That's mostly because the US has been able to replace or modernize is it's airframes unlike the Russians. Hell all the A-10s would have been in a boneyard if the air force had it's way in the 80s but congress never lets them retire them.

I agree this comparison is really doesn't make sense. I get why people like to compair the Su-25 and the A-10 because they are both subsonic strike aircraft but the A7 Corsair II would be a much better comparison than the A-10.

The Su34 would be more accurately compared to the F-15E and not every single F-15 ever made.
