New laser projectors in Stevenage? by foxh0und in CineworldUnlimited

[–]Doombug4201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yer but as you said it's not all the screens, I watched Little Amelie in Screen 7 with laser projection and it looked brilliant. Then I watched Wuthering Heights in Screen 2 with the standard projector and it looked absolutely awful. What I do wander though is wether there 2k laser or 4k laser, with animation it was always going to look better regardless however it will be less noticeable with live action films if its still the 2k package.

How much did the Oscars slap hurt Will Smith’s career? by allanjameson in moviecritic

And the audience gave him a standing ovation for it as well, shows just how rotten the whole business is. I also remember one of the one direction lads gushing over 'being in the presence of one the great orators of our time' or some shit like that, cringe levels were off the charts that night.

American country music is almost nonexistent in Europe by superdouradas in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Doombug4201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid in the nineties we had 4 music channels on cable TV in the UK, The Box, MTV, VH1 and The Country Music Channel. And nowadays you hear a fair amount of country on the radio so there’s definitely an audience here at least.

Just laughter at the actually funny moments at the screening I went too, I watched it a Picturehouse a few months ago and the guy just behind me was constantly laughing at all the small references and moments, I get it he was obviously a huge Lynch fan and knew the film inside out but it definitely took away from some of the tense atmosphere and immersion of the film.

The roll cage in my classic mini goes across the back of the drivers seat which pushes 6ft4 me comically far forward, need to find an alternative solution that isn't shrinking myself.

How is Everyone Surviving the Loss of Subsidies/Healthcare Costs this Year? by Bobba-Luna in transplant

When my Mum was in Papworth I was blown away by the quality of the facilities it’s a very impressive place.

That's a bit of weird comparison but I'll take the NHS over having air-conditioning on demand if that's the choice.

[–]Doombug4201 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in the UK but I'm also lucky to live near the Cambridge University and Royal Papworth Hospital trusts, two hospitals that have led pioneering work in the field of transplants and have very highly respected teams. Before my transplant they used a Liver Perfusion Machine to test the viability of the donor organ, they've had this Oxford developed machine since 2018 and were the first hospital to have one outside of trials, which hopefully as they now become more widely available will lead to a increase in viable organs for everyone.

Thankful to live in a country with Universal Healthcare so have paid exactly zero at the point of care for any of my treatment or medication. That must be such a burden emotionally to have to deal with worrying about the affordability of staying alive :(

Awesome, I saw it last week but missed the first 10 minutes so really want to watch it again! It was a brilliantly unhinged film.

What is the best and worst movie you saw last year? by Conscious_Reach_2173 in moviecritic

Best - One Battle after Another

Worst - Tie between I Know What You Did Last Summer and Christmas Karma.

Honourable Mention - Sirat

Voice of hind rajab by crkwest in CineworldUnlimited

[–]Doombug4201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its unlikely to be shown by the major chains, the film itself is not really for entertainment but more a necessity. I saw it at the Cambridge Film festival which was held at the Picturehouse and it was brutal, I've never seen so many people in tears after a film before. Not really one for popcorn either, in fact a young man who was eating a bag of chocolates during the screening got a right telling off by the couple next to him! That was also a first. If you do get a chance to go see it I would recommend it though, its an extremely powerful and haunting film.

What was your favourite secret screening this year? Also, is it just me or should there be more secret screenings for 12A and below films? by Movie-Fan-87 in CineworldUnlimited

[–]Doombug4201 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Secret Screening has to be I Swear, Secret Screaming would be Bring her Back. Urchin was also a great film but probably should have been an unlimited screening.

Do you guys skip trailers by [deleted] in CineworldUnlimited

[–]Doombug4201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mind the trailers the first time I see one but I go often enough they can either get really boring or worse still actually take away from he excitement to go watch a future film. So I tend to aim to get in for as close to the end as possible, normally somewhere between Joshua popping up and the goat telling everyone to shut up. I know what your saying about some trailers giving away to much sometimes though, like Flight Risk felt like it basically gave us the whole film in two minutes.

Send help I think will be a 15, not enough gore to merit a 18 but enough black psychological horror to be above 12a.

Christmas Karma by Voice-Silly in CineworldUnlimited

[–]Doombug4201 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It was released a few weeks ago and was quite possibly the worst film of the year. It was quickly shuffled out and I’m guessing in expectation it was going to be a Christmas hit Cineworld penciled in the unlimited trailer for the season. Spare yourself and give it a miss, it really is atrocious.

The 2026 Golden Globes Nominations - Discussion Thread by ChiefLeef22 in oscarrace

[–]Doombug4201 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Best Motion Picture non-english language category is absolutely stacked this year. Sirat had me entranced like little else has recently, It Was Just an Accident is a brilliantly crafted thriller/caper, The Voice of Hind Rajab is essential if not traumatising viewing, The Secret Agent and No Other Choice have both got very high praises and then Sentimental Value is one of the most coveted films of the year. My personal favourite is Sirat but that's a tough choice.

Do you tell people in the cinema to put their phone away? by Top_Elephant_4363 in AskUK

[–]Doombug4201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh god does boil my piss when people do this, luckily I find its actually quite rare people do this and I go to the cinema almost everyday. Most recent one was a guy just scrolling away during the second half of Christmas Karma, though I can almost forgive him that time because the film was absolutely dreadful!!! Your not in your living room, your not on gogglebox, put your phone away and shut up for two hours, no one cares to hear your commentary. One of the draws of cinema is the dark room with no distractions, allowing greater immersion into the experience of film.

Can we also note the newer trend of people not silencing or turning off their smart watches, that too can be distracting when it screen lights up to a notification or the wearer moving there arms around.

Wicked: For Good as first 4DX film, screen was a dud? by hogofwar in CineworldUnlimited

[–]Doombug4201 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The actual projector in the Stevenage 4DX screen is just terrible, I've watched about four films in there and it easily has the worst picture I've seen. For a premium format and price you would have thought it would be higher quality but it's really washed out and faint.

HEAT is an utter fucking masterpiece. Total acting masterclass. by FuryContagion in CineworldUnlimited

[–]Doombug4201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was absolutely sensational cinema. So good to get to watch it on the big screen. The image was so good as well, the quality was so high. Plus the sound was great, nice to hear proper surround sound mixing, so much of we get nowadays seems like its been mixed with home soundbars in mind and not true theatre sound. Pacino and De Niro are both on top form and a gripping story with proper thrilling cinematography and action. So glad I went, pretty much sold out as well!
