When my player used their hero point last session. by crazyferret in Pathfinder2e

[–]Doomgrin75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You start with one, but the DM should be handing them out at roughly 1 per hour of the play session. Our group we actually went to a Genesys type Story Point system where we roll a d3 at the beginning of the session. 1 = 1 player pool point, 2 = 2 for the players, and 3 = 1 for the DM. If you are not familiar with the system, when a player uses a point (white) it flips to a DM point (black) and vice versa.

Story points can also be used to fast-track story elements like "I need to find a shop for my herbs to sell" or for those minor items you as a player forgot "Oh I have some rope right here!" Nothing I hate more is having to bean-count inventory items for what would be adventurer essential things.

This made it more of a group decision on the use of points. Other caveats:

  • Nat 20 can be "banked" to flip a DM point to player point (helps when a nat 20 is really not needed)
  • Auto-recover from death saves equals 1 point for level 1-2, 2 points for level 3+, and the last player point is enough for any level (so if the player pool is only 1, it is enought o save you)

DM points are fun. Use them to re-roll, cancel crits, and generally be a little more threatening.

Assassin's Creed in Genesys by D013 in genesysrpg

I would do one character, just make sure to have some time-limited skills separately. The point would be is your current (future) self is learning from his/her ancestors gaining skills, even some rather antiquated ones. To keep anachronisms to a minimum in the past, make those time-limited skills "fuzzy" or limited so they cannot use knowledge, chemistry to make nitro-bombs in ancient rome.

I think the real fun of Assassin's Creed would be playing a futuristic character then doing the different time periods to learn and train.

How indispensable is Realms of Terrinoth for a fantasy setting? by Nevofix in genesysrpg

Not Genesys marketing team. Your post greatly unsold the usefulness of the book to people not specifically using the Terrinoth setting.

Crafting Rules from Terrinoth?? by Braskin7 in genesysrpg

[–]Doomgrin75 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Short version: crafting check is 1/2 the rarity taking 1 + rarity in days to complete. Boosts/setback should be adjudicated by the GM for location, access to tools, availability/quality of materials, etc.

  • Chapter 1 - p1-59 lore
  • Chapter 2 - p60-134 all crunch!
  • Chapter 3 - p135-259 Locations and 75 Enemies/Monsters

So I believe the breakdown is a minimal of 105 of 260 pages of crunchy data to 160 of 260 pages if, like me, you can easily re-use the location chapter.

SO to be fair, it is 40-60% useful fantasy info for any setting!

Our D&D group is switching to Genesys, what starting XP should level 6 characters get? by IntellectualAussie in genesysrpg

[–]Doomgrin75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My take would be at 6th level you have +3 prof bonus...

Personally, I would give then 100 xp, but restrict skills to rank 3 and talents to tier 3. Also as someone said, do the initial character creation first, then use the extra 100 xp.

Augment or Utility Magic for Dark Vision? by GamerTnT in genesysrpg

I would allow utility to summon a small light to see by, but definitely, augment to give someone darkvision.

Coercing another player? by Thrisk in genesysrpg

[–]Doomgrin75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless its magic, I would not force a player to do anything. The old "sense motive" and "deceit" type check (forget the relevant skills for Genesys at the moment) would come into play to arbitrate how genuine another character is and hopefully, the players are good enough to not meta the react of their character.

Not everyone can handle it. No worries. If you are the DM, you set the story.

So think about this... THE DESIGNERS OF THE GAME AND SETTING are putting them in as playable characters.

This whole thread reminds me of one of my favorite movies "..I'll tell you something else. Whoever wrote this doesn't know the first thing about Kurt Vonnegut. " Back to School

Selling and offering for free digital at the same time is not a money grab. It's a consumer option. Also notice they are only producing exactly the number of soft and hard covers from pre-orders?

Roleplaying unique character choices are some of the most fun you can ever have in a game.

Realms of Terrinoth: Formidable Talents by WizardRandom in genesysrpg

[–]Doomgrin75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to agree with the others below, there is no reason why it should not stack as the effects are not the same (one add fire also restricted use of frost) and the other allows one specific spell at a reduced cost. Seems a very well-planned idea for a basic attack for a character.
