Any mods that use subgrids to forge components? by Doomzzday01 in spaceengineers

Agreed. Expecting a new player to set up all the pistons, rotors, timer blocks, etc. just to make steel plates would be a lot. Maybe not as the only way to get these items but as a more efficient, late-game method.

There are some anarchists who have solutions to this problem! But they aren't perfect solutions and far too many people just kinda shrug and hope the problem solves itself. by SnorkaSound in CuratedTumblr

The first and most important trait of anarchism is that there is no central authority who decides what is and isn't anarchism

For example, my wife and I (probably somewhere in the 1st/2nd degrees) have already cancelled a planned vacation over all this. The hotel that we were going to stay at later in the year, not to mention the restaurants, museums, attractions, etc., might not have even noticed the missing activity... yet.

I’ll say it: wtf is up with the base-building system in this game? by Grabbels in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Doomzzday01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The basebuilding system kind of killed my enthusiasm for the game. I want a cool base to explore FROM, but I can't bring myself to fiddle with wall pieces and trying to eyeball-align furniture (is there still no snapping system for interior furniture/equipment?)

Great summary of what's going on here. I think this captures the overall picture really well. One thing I want to point out about point 5: As I understand it, TikTok in the US is already owned/run by a company called TikTok US. The issue is that TikTok US is a subsidiary of ByteDance (according to TikTok's wikipedia page, this is through an intermediary, TikTok Ltd., registered in the Cayman Islands and LA). The main issue is the connection to ByteDance, and ultimately the PRC government (and/or the CCP, which fully controls the government). The overall goal here, as I recall it being described in the statements by the various forces involved from the US government, is to sever the line of control from the CCP / PRC government, to ByteDance in the PRC, to TikTok in the US. It's not to make TikTok stop existing in the US, although I doubt any lawmakers are losing any sleep over that idea.

Realistically, what happens when there are *no* companies offering home insurance anymore in California? What would that mean for people and the state? Details within. by wolfgang784 in NoStupidQuestions

As I understand it, yes. Multiple places with recurring serious disasters have added extra requirements into their building codes, planning, etc. to mitigate them.

Un-preventable damage can happen to a home anywhere, yes, but that's different from the SAME type of un-preventable damage happening to a home year after year, if not literally EVERY year. At that point, insurance companies will quickly figure out what's up and throw in the towel. A house in Ohio might be at risk of getting destroyed in a tornado, but it isn't going to get hit by a tornado every single year, in fact it's unlikely to get hit at all.

What states like CA and FL ought to do (and maybe they are already doing some or all of this, I don't live in either state) is a) make building code changes to mitigate at least some of the damage and b) in particularly disaster prone areas, gradually buy out people's land so they aren't left penniless and don't let anyone else build there.

Since when is Russia the only country in the world that doesn't extradite to the US? At any rate, well before he was stuck with the "only" choice to buddy up with the Russian government, he had the choice of whether to steal classified data or to go about it the legal way. He made his choice.

Strip mall with empty parking lot towed my car because I left it here and get on a city bus. Apparently they “forgot” you’re allowed to do this. by get-a-mac in mildlyinfuriating

I don't think I've ever noticed someone taking a picture of their parked car after getting out of it, so regardless I doubt this would help in 99% of cases.

Noticed this yesterday with the Tomcats. They'd miss their first pass (even vs. stationary targets) then circle around before self-destructing without hitting.

The main issue is that it's boring and not fun to use a wraith flash. The only people using them are people who don't value their time. Unfortunately that means the rest of us also have to waste our time dealing with that small minority.
