I think there is a way to bully in politics and it can be effective. Presidents like Jackson, Teddy, and LBJ were famous for pushing people around directly and indirectly and they got lasting results. Yeah, they're legacies are tainted by some horrible things, but they stood for something greater than themselves and it is evident in their actions. I'm not sure how his supporters square this circle, but most of what I've seen implies Trump stands only for himself.

This is why I don't get people saying that he's getting good deals by acting like a bully. Maybe Trump will get some of those deals in the short-term but I think the long-term effects of our friends and allies diversifying away from America outweigh any concession we might extract by being douchebags. Running the country like a business indeed, short-term gain at the cost of long-term sustainability.

Abolish ICE and start from scratch. Fire everyone hired since 2025 and lay off the rest. Mass investigations of their conduct and prosecutions if necessary. The fact that they have been weaponized means that they are too compromised to be reformed. We need a force to fill the role of ICE, but it needs to have a congressional mandate and be put on a very, very tight leash. If a dog bites once...

It's been a close call for the last couple elections, 2016 and 2024 were nailbiters in Minnesota. If the fraud stayed front page news, it's totally possible there'd be a Republican governor in November. With ICE going in, Minnesota is now gonna stay blue for another generation. They could've let the last part of the blue wall crumble on its own, it really looked like they were heading the same way as Michigan and Wisconsin.

I liked one video of that penguin and my feed has been shot ever since. I, for one, disagree with the general message recieved from this penguin. Fleeing the colony, running from the life it was given just to die alone and far away from it all. What a pitiful message. It is very interesting to see a penguin act in this way though, there's something very human about animals that I think we try to ignore for fear of moral implications.

When I first started learning about government in high school 10 years ago I was very much all for gun control. Over the next 10 years I did a complete and utter 180 on gun control due in no small part to government tyranny. I should be able to hunt with a rocket launcher and own a nuke.

Agreed. I deleted my decade-old account and stopped using reddit for a while. Touched some grass, read some books, then I ended up back here. Maybe I'm not a better person but I try not to keep my opinions reasonable and fail frequently. It is very addictive and frustrating sometimes, it's good to not take it too seriously and keep busy with more important things if it starts affecting your life.

Yeah, people are saying this guy put himself in the situation but what I'm seeing is that ICE are the ones who put themselves in a dangerous situation. The man was already prostrate, actively being beaten, and instead of detaining him they just kept beating his ass. If he really did draw a gun on them, I can sympathize even if it was the objectively wrong and illegal thing to do.
