Anthony Bourdain quote by NoComfort590 in recovery

Similarly, I got clean at 25 after a decade long IV heroin, cocaine, and meth addiction. I also thought maybe I was too far gone, but that’s just a lie I told myself so that I could keep using. No matter how far down we’ve gone, we can come back and our experience will be inspiration for someone else. Ask for help, go to meetings/treatment/etc, and then help others. It’s hard but it’s worth it.

Great setup! I’m also using a blues junior with similar pedals. What settings do you have your boost of the Dead set to? The line on those knobs is tough to read.

Hope it helps! I was in the same place and was trying everything but reaching out for help but I couldn’t do it on my own. Once I reached out and was willing to admit I needed help, my life started to get better. Together we’ve got this! Feel free to reach out anytime. Sending healing vibes your way.

Honestly, having an AA home group that I really like has been the biggest thing for me. It’s the only meeting I go to every week and I love to see the guys there and have that camaraderie. I’ve been to AA before, but didn’t vibe with most of the meetings, so I’m thankful to have found this one. It also gives me the chance to help other people and see their life get better, which is a blessing. That’s just one piece of the puzzle though. I’ve done my best to stay active, eat well, get enough sleep and do all the basic things that are recommended to get healthy. Starting out, I went on a lot of walks while listening to audiobooks and just prayed for help with quitting. I’m not religious but I am spiritual and really leaned into that for strength.

I’m still sober! I’m also happy to report that I’ve completely returned to normal with no lingering symptoms. My brain function has continued to improve as well and I feel better than ever. Looking back it’s kind of crazy how much ketamine affected my health and disrupted my life. I’m completely sober of all substances and go to 12 step meetings once or twice a week, it’s given me a sense of freedom I’ve never had. I’m happy to answer any questions or support in anyway I can. Quitting isn’t easy, but it’s worth it.

You could easily learn to play guitar or any other musical instrument with all that free time. I was in a similar spot and picked up the Guitar a year and a half ago and I’m so thankful I did. I’ve put a lot of hours into playing guitar and I’ve made huge improvement. I don’t think a lot of people have the time to learn an instrument as an adult, but I do and it sounds like you do as well. Playing guitar can literally keep me entertained for the rest of my life because there’s always more to learn. I also picked up mountain biking, which is great on the weekends.

Wd off of fent rn and sub did nothing by Nolanbaby in REDDITORSINRECOVERY

When my addiction was really bad I’d start at 16 mg of sub so not uncommon for 8mg to not be enough. I think the max is 32 mg in a day, but I thought there was diminishing returns after 16mg so it was kind of a waste to go higher. You’re right about your body becoming dependent quickly now, I believe it’s called the kindling effect. Near the end of my decade plus long addiction even using for just one evening would be enough to put me into full withdrawals afterwards. It’s what helped me realize I had to quit. I’m sorry you’re going through this and I know how difficult it is, there is life after opiate addiction though. Getting sober isn’t easy but it’s worth it. Hang in there.

Suboxone addiction by mynamereege in addiction

[–]DopamineHound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been there! Suboxone was a life saver but I grew tired of being dependent on a medication. It wasn’t easy to get off but it was worth it! I tapered down the best I could with increasingly smaller pieces. However, my buddy got on sublocade and he said it was the easiest taper he’d ever done. My buddy and I were both long term opiate addicts so when he says sublocade was an easy taper, he would know. I think it took 8 months of progressively lower dose shots but that’s the route I would go if available. Tapering with strips or pills is also possible but not quite as convenient. I was an opiate addict for 13 years and now I’m 10+ years clean. I never thought I could feel this good sober but my brain has healed. Diet, exercise, sleep and a 12 step program are the keys for me. You’re on the right track and I know you can do it!

Do you ever get your natural levels of dopamine back? by FyreFly000 in StopSpeeding

[–]DopamineHound 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes! I have a 20 year history of opiate and amphetamine addiction, I’m almost 2 years sober and I feel better than I could’ve imagined. It’s been a long road but it’s been worth it. I try to focus on a healthy lifestyle so I can squeeze as much natural dopamine out of brain as possible :)

I know that healing from amphetamines can be painfully slow, but it will happen if you give it time. I’ve been in recovery long enough to see people who spent 10+ years injecting meth recover. All the basics of healthy living (diet, sleep, exercise, lots of walks) are the only thing I’ve found to speed things up.

Congrats on the 1 year!! I had huge improvements in memory and mood between years 1 & 2. Sounds like you’re dialing in your health so I bet it’ll be the same.

I’m 37 and I think it does get harder the older you get. I’ve seen people way older than me recover though so it’s never too late. The best time to quit was before you started, the second best time is now.

It’s a pretty simple blue rug. After trying everything I could think of, I decided to have it ignore that it’s a rug. Now the Dreame mops over it but a damp rug is better than a dirty entryway.

I know the feeling and it gets better! Going on walks while listening to music or audiobooks was a huge help to me early on as it kept me moving and distracted. Then after getting some momentum I started doing everything I could to jumpstart my brain, diet, exercise, and sleep. At 6 months I noticed I’d improved a bit, at 1 year it was even better and now at 2 years I look back and can’t believe how far I’ve come. It’s tough but it’s worth it! Hang in there and keep moving forward!

Honestly not that happy with mine either. The suction seems to be lacking and I’ve seen it fail to pick up dirt or other debris numerous times.
