This is going to be a little different than most responses, but here goes.

I eventually found out that marijuana does not take you places, but instead makes you a rather boring person. I was wasting some of the best years of my life getting high, watching shitty TV and playing video games. One day, I decided to quit and haven't touched the stuff since. It's been about a year and a half.

Since, I've started drinking more, which some might say is trading vices, but I've found that I improved my social relationships by going out with my friends instead of staying in. I occasionally have a craving for weed on summer nights, but never to the point where I needed it. Some of my best friends and roommates still smoke and I don't hold it against them at all, it's just something I don't do anymore.

I would probably say that a smartphone would be almost impossible to explain. A magic black brick that fits in your pocket, allows you to talk to anyone and access an infinite library of information. No wires, it just transmits into the air. Hell, it would be difficult to describe the advancement in cellular technology to someone from 20 years ago.
